AccessDenied will also happen if you own another subID (especially paid one) that activates the same items as current one. HumbleBundle key might be one of those cases.

No, the account doesn't own the base game or anything related to it :( I'll try to update ASF later (I'm on V3.0.6.0 and I need to check what has changed since that version). Juzer commented above that he was on 3.0.5.5 so it's probably that.

I'm still rocking the old v2 ver as my potato lacks SSE2 cpu which net core needs.., addlicense functionality is completely broken now. Can confirm that with v3.1.2.2 it works again (I suspect some SteamKit update to have been needed, asf doesn't actually have any code handling these requests.)

They don't even cost bandwidth money as no downloads happen. Also an official Valve employee in charge of the recent card drop changes displayed surprising cluelessness about idling and understated its ramifications.
So I doubt they care yet.
