So, as everyone probably knows the world is a pretty fucked up place right now and with talks about Russia enforcing Rusnet instead of global internet and companies such as Epic, Apple and Microsoft leaving their market I wonder if we can expect a similar thing on Steam in near future.

For example, Ancestors Legacy seems to be eliminating its contract with 1C Entertainment which has headquarters in Moscow. [](https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/620590/view/3092289062999602907)

Btw are there some RU games you would recommend in case they disappear suddenly?

Do you think Russian games and / or publishers will be banned on Steam?

I would definitely recommend Black Book and two Pathfinder games (actually, I think that Black Book and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous were the best RPGs of 2021).
As for the probability of the ban, everything is possible.

Just for context - Russian government required all service providers and businesses to have its servers on Russian soil, and at the beginning of 2021 they disconnected the country from the internet. So they probably consider a possibility that during a conflict they might be shut off from internet completely.

You are right. Accordign to Nexta the whole Russia should be switching to RusNet (the Russian intranet) within next two weeks. The preparations seem to be in order but it can also be connected to the government preparing for more potential sanctions in the future

I don't think disconnecting them is on the radar for sanctions - for now - and a lot of stuff circulating on the web during this war is unsubstantiated to say the least - but its clear the Kremlin sees that as a possibility for the future(WW3?)
Bonus info: lots of Russian surveying ships were actively monitoring submarine cables routes on the US east coast in the not so distant past. Damaging these cables would probably hinder internet access/communications on the whole western hemisphere.

I also don't believe that it would be among the sanctions but with increasing censorship, it may be a good way for its government to limit what the users can and cannot see. For example one of the newer laws can put people into prison for up to 15 years for 'incorrect information about the military operation'.

I guess we will have to wait and see.

Yeah. And this law is Rorschach test. How do you ascertain what is misinformation? Disinformation? Malinformation? Differentiate opinion from information? It all depends on the perception of each individual. Western governments blocked Russian outlets, so this law basically blocks all info from the west all at once.
Either someone is really really smart to come up with this law and approve it so fast or all of this was planned years in advance. I believe the latter.

This is a surprisingly important tweet.
It is around the date Belarus is scheduled to implement denuclearization.
...I'm wondering what the future holds, since the constitution was supposed to be amended with talk of getting nuclear warheads from Russia.

Thank you info...👀

I know Ice-Pick Lodge (The Void, Pathologic...) and Owlcats (Pathfinder Kingmaker / Wrath of the Righteous) are Russian and they're both amazing devs. Atom Team (Atom RPG) are also well-liked Russian devs but I haven't played their games yet. I also know a few Russian VN devs but I don't know if their publishers are Russian.

I hope Steam doesn't remove Russian games from their store because if they do that kind of blanket censorship I'll probably stop buying anything on Steam directly and get my keys elsewhere. Ice-Pick Lodge in particular have taken position against the war so censoring their games would be completely idiotic.

It may not be Steam's fault as Russia was cut from Paypal, large banks were pushed out of SWIFT and credit cards issued in RU should be only working locally. Another issue may be connected to RusNet as well ... Also it is probably a PR nightmare for almost every company as there isn't a winning for them either way

You're probably right. It just saddens me that a whole country and culture are getting phased out of the economy just like they don't exist, simply because of the actions of one warmongering leader. It's like mccarthysm all over again.

I could be wrong but I thought the banning of Russian buyers wasn't entirely a political issue (for some companies ofc it was just virtue signaling) but the main issue was just being cut off from Paypal and SWIFT which makes it hard for companies accepting Russian money.

Be able to convert Rubles into any other currency to pay the developers and yourself
The Ruble devaluation and price adjustment of games sold in Russia(peg them to another currency, and convert during checkout?)

I'm sure Valve is having daily meetings to discuss both these problems

Yes, like how when Argentina's currency was dropping there were talks about not taking the currency anymore. I don't believe in punishing people for their government's actions but also, people need to be able to be paid.
