Hi :D
I just started to use 3d-max (for whoever dont know how this program this is for making models for games and etc..) and its just awesome.
I already made a full model and now i currently working on another.

For whoever interested these are the models:

  1. Completed Flashlight
  2. Combat Knife - work in progress

of-course i used some tutorials to get to know the basics of the program.

Have a nice day :)

Those are pretty good for a beginner. Nice work.

Having used this program for vast amounts of time I can appreciate how hard it is to get used to. But it seems like you are off to a good start. Another great thing to start with is creating Character Models :) Once you start with that then youcan start basic animations and then things start getting interesting :D

Looking good. Doesn't matter if you're just following tutorials, you're not going to learn just by hammering all the buttons are you? :) (While that works for some software, I wouldn't say 3ds Max falls under that category.)

Good times.. I had a class in that program about 10 years ago.. I wish I remembered anything. Nice work!

Nice start. I've been using max since 2.5, I love it. for the knife handle, it looks like there's some ridged detail. Consider using texture instead. Normal mapping is a little more advanced, but it will keep your models simpler.

Definitely a good start. Not sure if you've started tackling unwrapping yet (I'm guess "no" given how your combat knife in progress looks), but that'll be your next step. Also, for games, make sure you're following clean modeling tutorials. For film and pre-rendered animations, you can get away with a lot more (higher poly counts and n-gons), while game engines don't like that sort of thing. ;P

Check out polycount.com for a great community of artists. :)

Nicely done, 3DS MAX does have the particularity of being quite hard to get the hang of in the beggining. I haven't touched that software for some time now, been focusing on Photoshop CS6 as of lately and doing some basic software for work.

I prefer Blender myself (yay for free and open source software). Looking good for your first couple of models. :)

Wires?
Wish I could get back to MAX as well, but I'm stuck on a netbook. Let's say I'm kinda back, because I found out that GMAX works on it (shame it's so stripped-down). I think I'm too used to its interface: tried Softimage, Blender and some others, but I just can't get used to them...

Much to my surprise, those are actually really nice models. I used 3DS-Max 2009 for 3 years and there's still so much I don't know about the program. It's incredible the things you can use it for.

Nice job! :D
Now, what about doing some organic models? :)

Tutorials always make you feel awesome when you complete stuff the first time, until you try making something yourself and notice that you're actually unable to.
Doubt that happens to a lot of people, but I suck at modelling without a tutorial present XD
