So last week I ordered parts for a new PC. By shopping around, I managed to secure 8 parts for just under AU$1000 which would produce the same machine being sold for AU$4000 by one of the biggest sellers in my country.
All the parts arrived today... except the case.
Apparently it won't be here until the end of the week. Maybe next week.
I thought OK... I'll just slap everything in my old case and pack the old parts away until I get the new case, do a quick swap etc...
The new CPU cooler (Nepton 140XL) won't fit anywhere in my old case :/
So now I'm stuck looking at all my sexy new PC godlike components.... sitting on my desk... doing nothing...

Predict - obviously I allow for accidents, driver fatigue, etc - but ordering from a top supplier who uses a professional courier service, who states that they have a 99% on time track record and then they say it WILL be there by such a time/date - then hum and har.. before stating: "We know we sent you the email on Thursday saying it was sent and will arrive on Monday by 12pm, but for some reason our records say that we didn't actually hand it to the courier until 11:34am this morning..."
Well that's just not good enough IMHO.

I managed to pick up a second AMD R9 380 Dual X to go with my current one (Same model) - I got it 1/2 price AU$150 because it's the 2GB model that didn't sell well and it was the last one in the guys stock. Always pays to call the supplier and speak personally - I'm not sure what it's like overseas, but in the last 5 - 10 years, here in Australia, the art of Haggling has been gaining momentum rapidly - and seems to be paying off for consumers.

God the same thing happened to me, amazon messed up my order and sent me the wrong thing and I was just sitting around with all these brand new boxes of computer parts drooling...but the package came a day early when they resent the right item so I guess it was alright.

I've been looking at my shiny new computer parts since November, which is when the onslaught of surprise bills started coming in, preventing me from buying the remaining three parts I need.

I'm just saying, between one week and 5 months, I'd take the one week. :P

Haha - these parts were the ones I picked out 6 months ago - but at that time my wife said we needed a new shed to store her mothers dolls in.
$400 for the concrete slab, $560 for the shed and $30 for the anchor kit = no PC. This time she couldn't think of anything besides the car that needed fixing - And I did that myself rather than take It to the mechanic for a service.

Plus side, none of my expenses were due to a spontaneous need to build a giant dollhouse in my backyard.

..Though, now that I'm aware of the option, I'll admit to being a bit tempted. :X
Certainly more interesting than most backyard playgrounds you could put up, anyway. :P

Our postal service tends to sit on packages up to two weeks for no other reason than someone in the logistics center wasn't in the mood to process it.
So… not really expecting anything to arrive on time, ever. It's somewhat better when I give the company's address as destination, but not always.

Why you just build it without case, just on table?

I once had troubles with new power supply which was part of PC case, sent it back, waited for results, finally got my money back and ordered new power supply. Waited almost 2 months since the moment I could already use new PC :)

As for your case - http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/build-pc-without-a-case.113939/

P.S. Just read that you can't do that :)
