Despite my long experience with Steamgifts, this is the first thread in the forums I've created.

Just about half an hour ago I got my Steam account hacked. Someone from my friendlist sent me a link. I opened it and it seemed to be just another free giveaway site, like hundreds I had visisted before. The thing is, it requested to sign in through my Steam account, which I carelessly did. Even though I was using mobile authenticator, someone took over all my Steam data. I received a series of emails, informing me that my telephone number associated with Steam got changed, my authenticator removed, my email address connected with Steam changed as well, and my main password reset. I contacted Steam right away and I hope to get my access back - there's over a thousand games I've lost, many of which I haven't even played yet (including the Witcher 3, goddamn it!).

This message is a warning to all of you. The link used by the hacker was keysmagic.fun. Don' enter this link, if anyone sends it to you - remove from the friendlist mercilessly. The IP address of the computer used for the hack is based in Russia. Whoever did this, I hope you can never again get an erection, and your organism evolves taste buds in your anus, you f**k. To all other Steam users - keep safe, this may happen to you as well. Think before you act, just as I didn't.

EDIT: Account recovered, nothing's lost except some of my pride. Have a train to celebrate: http://sgtools.info/giveaways/d13c83b2-68e9-11e9-84e3-fa163e96784d

That moment when SGT wants me to login with my steam... :D

Glad that you recovered your account. Guess this still is going, but glad it's not the epidemy like it was couple of months ago.

Something worse, look at this https://steamcommunity.com/groups/Giveaway_News#members

I don't know the full story but they have been posting(with using bots as well) some weird stuff in the discussions, take a look.

I would create a thread with this info but maybe someone is on it so I'll pass.

Thank goodness you managed to recover your account. Is the process tedious?

Not at all. All I did was follow the procedure. Sent them a complete description of what happened, some scans of my game serials to confirm the account is in fact mine, the link to the site that got me into trouble etc. I waited only a few hours to get a reply with a new, temporary password. Once I recovered my account I was asked to create a new one, reset my mobile authenticator and I was ready to go. Nothing tedious or frustrating, just a few hours of nervous awaiting.

Wow. Luckily steam support is efficient in this case. I am so afraid of this happening to my account.

hacker you basically gave him everything. there was no hacking involved. never open any links and never ever type your steam username and password on random sites who look like steam web page.

Runs a red light, "Hey guys, I got shot."

Well, it is possible to get shot while running a red light, isn't it? My account got hijacked. The method used for hijacking it was phishing. I don't see a reason why those two terms are conflicting. One of them is more general, the other more specific.

Compromised would have been a good generic term.

Hacking is using exploits to gain access to something you do not normally have access to.

Phishing is masquerading as a trustworthy source in an attempt to bait a user to surrender sensitive information such as a username, password, credit card number, etc.

And hijacking means unlawfully taking over something - usually a vehicle or some goods, but it also applies to so many other contexts, including computers. As I said - phishing is much more detailed and descriptive. Basically, you're arguing that I should have used a sentence "I got stabbed in the back" when I had stated that "I got wounded in the back". Both descriptions are true.

It's not your title, it's about you saying "Just about half an hour ago I got my Steam account hacked."
and
"The IP address of the computer used for the hack is based in Russia. "

But then I explain in detail what exactly occurred, there's nothing misleading here...
OK, I've grown tired of this debate. You are right. Let's end it here.

Thankful for the happy ending.
Please do not click links you are not expecting...Your friend was obviously already hacked.
If you hover over the link you can see the address at the bottom of your browser...If you cant see don't click.
If you must, then copy the link instead and paste in an incognito window.

Idk if this has been said before but here's few tips to Not get your Steam account hacked Ever Again:

  1. Install Good Anti Malware or Anti Virus Software
  2. Do Not Click Any links Anyone send you, that includes your Friends (Except Humble bundle Ect. BUT Make sure is LEGIT, Before clicking it)
  3. Make a difficult Password with 1 or Few: Capital letters, Number(s), Symbols, Etc
  4. Do Not Store your password somewhere obvious like some paper on your room or Note Pad (Not Password protected)
  5. You can Store your Password on Notepad for example But Use some kind of Password protected Encryption like Winrar for example, you know we aren't computers Can't remember everything.
  6. Don't Forget to Make some Backup of your passwords HDD or even SSD (Not likely but can) Fail anytime.

I'm Not bragging. But I have Been on Steam for 7 Years and Never Have Been Hacked Before (That's why if you Follow my instructions correctly you will Never be Hacked Again)
