At least here in Germany it's not out until tomorrow. And if it is a weekly rhythm I will probably wait until all episodes are out anyway. Can't stand getting hooked on a show and then having to wait a week. :)

I also like the Netflix approach, but if you wait for all the episodes, you'll have a big chance to have it spoiled for you, like it (probably) happened with The Mandalorian.

I've never watched the show but just by accidentally reading bits and memes in forums I'm pretty sure I've figured out the entire plot in detail.

Didn't happen for me with the Mandalorian, and I am confident it won't happen with Picard. I am usually good in avoiding all kinds of spoilers.

I even stopped watching trailers alltogether. And it usually works out that I watch a movie completely blind, even months after it was in the theater.

I try for the same approach, and it usually works well.

I'll watch a trailer for a movie if I'm not sure what the movie is about or if I'll like it, but if I know the movie is good and I'm going to watch it then I'll avoid any trailers - because at best they'll convince me to watch a movie I was already planning on watching, and at worst they'll spoil the entire story and every plot twist (I'm looking at you, Batman vs Superman trailer).

same, and all the better for it

I still remember, the trailer for Lord of the Rings 2 showed Gandalf alive. Great spoiler for anyone who hadn't read / couldn't remember the books

I've watched about 20 minutes, if not for the flashbacks and talks of starfleet, you could mistake this is an xmen show

PS: Loving it.

I'm one who actually likes the weekly episode distribution format. There's nothing more annoying than some dicks binging a whole season day 1 just to discuss it the next day in office.

me too. this gives time to let the current episode really sink in. you can recall what happened and think about it, or go online and discuss it with others or watch youtube videos breaking down the episode. this was a huge part of watching breaking bad and game of thrones for me. then when the next episode aired, it was basically an event. i couldn't imagine if i had just binged breaking bad on netflix. same show, but different experience.

I don't care who he is, the only thing that counts for me is that the music is cool.

I agree. I had the same effect when I saw it first couple of years ago. I went at it back to back like 50 times grooving. Even my kid loved it.

Star Trek hasn't been good since Voyager ended at best. Though I'd argue it stopped being good around DS9's last season. But Discovery was a dumpster fire on a whole other level. And although there were several management swaps at CBS/Viacom it's still ultimately the same incompetents at the helm of this new series. The test showings/premier were apparently not promising. Imma check it out academically like I did Discovery. I found it fascinating to find a single series that demonstrated how Hollywood could throw millions and millions at a project that failed on every conceivable creative level.

Orville is the real modern Star Trek. I don't know what's taking Fox so long for season 3.

Enterprise started off pretty weak, but was getting a lot better toward the end. I'd certainly rank the last two seasons of Enterprise above the first season of TNG or the last season of TOS

Unfortunately, it was "too little too late", and the show got cancelled just as it was hitting its stride

Also, if you want an example of "a single series that demonstrated how Hollywood could throw millions and millions at a project that failed on every conceivable creative level", while the first two Terminator movies were absolute blockbusters, every movie since has lost a boatload of money.

I'll put it on my to view-at-some-point list.
Never been a big Star trek fan though. I remember watching the DS9 series when I was a kid. I started watching Discovery but never made it to the end and dont have the intention to pick it up again.
i discovered The Expanse a week ago and have been bingewatching every evening. It has it flaws but it's entertaining nevertheless. Gonna finish that one first.

I liked the pilot and I'll definitely keep watching... but MAN was that episode rushed like crazy. There was no time for any real character development. And they didn't even build any suspense, they were too busy moving on to the next thing.

Hmm, interesting, the girl saw Picard's face, now she needs to find him! I wonder how she's going to... oh, look at that, she found him, 2 minutes later.

And later...

Okay, now Picard needs to get answers, to find out more about this girl. I wonder how he's going to... oh, look at that, he found answers, 2 minutes later.

I hope the rest of the season isn't so rushed, so they can really get more in-depth and make us care about their characters. The dual premise (rebirth of the Romulans / treatment of synthetic life forms) seems really promising.

I'd give it a try, but I don't pay extra for TV/Movies, except for HBO and the occasional Amazon Prime rental.

Oh man, I'm excited! Would need to rewatch old Star Treks though. At least the revelant (good) ones that is.
But with so many TV Shows up on the plate, not sure when I'll get to it.

They brought Jeri Ryan back and I loved her (still do) as Seven. One more familiar actor, Harry Treadaway that I piked in Penny Dreadful.
Overall nice cast. Will definitely watch it.

I didn't watch Discovery so I don't know how bad is it, but I might give the first episode a go.

There will be lots of old players returning even though i fear it's only for cameos instead of full time or atleast longer.
Next episode will be the borg Hugh.
Riker will show up (the real one not the dog picard named) and Q.

For all original Star Trek and TNG fans like me fantastic continuation (with logic of story past and look into future events since end of ST:TNG) of the best Star Trek series with the best captain ever. After watching already released 2 episodes i rated 10/10.
