Play the tutorials!!!

I know that feeling. You need to look up for a few guides to understand how it works.

Take a look at this: Anno 2070 - Starting Guide,
Steam gameplay basic guides. and also play the in-game tutorials.

RTS games puzzle me as well :D That's why I don't buy them.

But Anno 2070 is already -at least for me- the easiest game of the franchise :O

Beginners Guide

I don't know about 2070 (it's Uplay and the steam version is still quite costly), but i've played almost all previous Anno games and it wasn't that easy, though the first few missions were very helpful, taking you quite slowly from "hey, we just landed here, let's build 4 houses and a woodcutter" to "ok, you just arrived, now conquer ALL the islands"
