My thoughts exactly. My issue is mostly with the games being hidden to public by default, even when your profile was set to public in the past.

it's a simple feature available in almost all IM like apps since the 90s, it's just that steam chat is about as basic as it could possibly be and has next to no features. I wish steam would address actual issues that do need fixing. the library, the wish list, quality of life, inventory problems, trade window issues, that's not to mention allowing everything under the sun to be sold on their store. This is like finding a corpse eviscerated by a grizzly sticking a band-aid on it's left eye and calling it a job done.

Also useful if you are a shamed of having a lot of hours in a certain game. lol

So, I'm a scumbag for playing DotA 2 now ? That's very close minded of you.

That not the problem some user like banned other user because lack of game play I should know I had some 14 user banned me for no good reason one day as there playing by there own rule outside of Steamgifts which they should not be judging other people.

More features are good but it is probably going to mess up quite a few websites :/

By the way, new settings are set to hide games and library info from the public (friends only) by default. You might want to change it if you had your profile public before. https://steamcommunity.com/my/edit/settings

Same with me when I first went there, but I fixed it by doing this:
Click on "Edit Profile" on that blank page and then "My Privacy Settings"

Not changing anything for me but I like that upcoming feature
If you choose to set yourself to invisible, you’ll appear as offline, but you’ll still be able to view your friends list, send and receive messages.
I've been using that constantly on Facebook for years, will do the same on Steam.
Now I just wish they would allow to idle without registering playtime.

Does this mean it effects those 'tsupertsundere is now playing 1bitHeart!' popups? Those bug me - and I'm afraid I'm bugging my friends if I'm having trouble, say, launching a game, so they have to see the popup over and over again.

You can hide your Steam status so it should stop the pop-ups. But most people turn off those pop-ups anyway.

I am wondering same thing. Do SG users have to set it to public to sync and/or use this site as the default I saw mine is set to Friend's Only by default and I wanted to try it so I haven't changed it. I did however come here and test the sync option and it worked so not sure that effects anything ..yet. That said what about whether or not that part is not set to public? My profile is set to that so how will this effect those of us choosing to use this feature or try it out?
Edit: never mind, I see if it's set to anything but public (minus the box you can check off to keep playtime private) that it will not sync with SG and show a blank wishlist so set it back. :).

I kind of do the same. If it's a game with no howlongtobeat page, I tend to use the average reviewer's playtime to determine how long the actual game is.
Edit: Looking at a few games' reviews now, seems that "hours on record" is still currently public

That is good, even if it bypass your privacy a bit, you can always choose not to review

Now I do not have to worry about the hours played in certain anime games ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Allowing a group's owner to have API access seems like it would be a very good idea, since then you could set your page to private while joining eg. a public Steamgifts group, a public IsThereAnyDeal group, etc.
Currently there's no way to give an app access to your library and wishlist without setting it to public. That seems like an oversight; it hurts privacy because it forces people like us to go full-public. It would be much better if sg could just say "ok, join the Steamgifts group and set your settings to 'owners of groups I've joined get API access to my Wishlist and library' or the like.

If SG could not see wishlists can we assume that it also can't see game list? That pretty much breaks the rules unless you require everyone to set their game list public in order to be a member.

As far as I know you only need a public profile for the registration. Then everyone can put it back on private.
Therefore, there is no rule that your profile needs to be public.
But maybe SG should think about it now to introduce this rule.
At the moment you could not even control if a winner activated his game.

I was joking... I try to only blacklist people who cheat, like no activating gifts, regifters and such

Do you realize you can easily check if a user blacklisted you with ESGT right?
Also, if you are so stressed about blacklists and you have identified the reasons for why you are being blacklisted, why don't you work towards solving them? Otherwise, why complain?

i'd still rather they fix the steam client to stop changing my status from away to online for no reason. changed my games lists back to public.

i guess the conversation with a friend thing is reasonable (though i wouldn't want that), but it should definitely remember your status after reconnecting.

I wish they would update the mobile app so I can open it to confirm a trade or getting my Steamguard code without appearing online.

If by "better technology" you're referring to apps that can be installed on your PC to mimick the functionality of the mobile app, then those would be mostly useless to me. When I need to log in or confirm a trade and stay offline, it's usually because I'm not in front of my home PC anyway. (Most of the time from work or at a friend's house.)
Unless there's an alternate mobile app?

Couldn't figure out why sgtools kept denying me, saying I had unactivated wins. Now I know. I really like having privacy options, but the rollout could have been...more transparent.
Comment has been collapsed.
I was wondering why I couldnt pass a simple sgtools check.
Now I know why, but sgtools doesn't seem to want to sync, even though I did Home > Synchronise.
Any ideas how to fix this, or just let it self sync again when it does?
Edit: It synced after trying a couple of times. I think it just needs time for steam to update its api and sgtools to resync.

"Today’s update expands on your Profile Privacy Settings Page, giving you more control over the privacy of your Steam account. With more detailed descriptions of what profile information is included in each category, you will be able to manage how you are viewed by your friends, or the wider Steam Community.
You can now select who can view your profile’s “game details”; which includes the list of games you have purchased or wishlisted, along with achievements and playtime. This setting also controls whether you’re seen as “in-game” and the title of the game you are playing.
Additionally, regardless of which setting you choose for your profile’s game details, you now have the option to keep your total game playtime private. You no longer need to nervously laugh it off as a bug when your friends notice the 4,000+ hours you've put into Ricochet.
Looking ahead a little, we are also working on a new “invisible” mode in addition to the already existing “online”, “away” and “offline” presence options. If you choose to set yourself to invisible, you’ll appear as offline, but you’ll still be able to view your friends list, send and receive messages. Sometimes you’re feeling social, and sometimes you’re not; this setting should help Steam users be social on their own terms. We hope to have this feature ready for beta release soon.
Like many Steam features, these privacy options come directly from user feedback. If you would like to join that conversation, as always, we welcome you to visit the Steam Discussions and add your feedback."

Other than it breaking Steamgifts wishlists, what do you think about it ?
TL;DR go here, change "Game details" to "Public", sync with SG again to get your WISHLIST back on Steamgifts.
