Heya!

So I noticed just now that the next giveaway ending was for Mutant Year Zero. Which I thought odd, since it wasn't shown under wishlist giveaways, and it is on my wishlist on Steam. So I checked Steam, and I couldn't find it anywhere on my wishlist. I checked the game, which reports it as being on my wishlist. I could only remove it from wishlist, by adding it to my card. Adding it again didn't fix the issue though. Game hasn't been removed from Steam either, obviously.

Has anyone tried something similar? Or maybe know if there's a fix to this?

Can confirm, this is a steam issue. My wishlist isn't being properly synced here and on barter.vg

Same here...SteamGifts only reads 350 wishlisted games out of almost 2900.

I'm the admin of a group with a little over 100 members.
Up until a few days ago, the most wishlisted game in our group wishlist was Vampyr with ~70 people wishlisting it.
Today, all of the sudden, the most wishlisted game is FrostPunk, with less than 50 people wishlisting it.
So definitely looks like some kind of bug.
(I really hope it's not a new Steam feature, that will make wishlists difficult to use)

I don't think it's a bug, but some kind of control implemented by Steam to make it more difficult to purchase games from your wishlist at stores or services outside Steam that implement this feature for the convenience of their users (Fanatical Assistant, GG Deals, for example).

damn, that actually makes sense.
time to make a folder of bookmarked searches for specific games then.

Uh, except it also makes it more difficult to check your wishlist and buy them on Steam. :X

Why would Valve intentionally make it more difficult to buy games on their platform?

They do it all the time? See also: publisher storefront, dlc storefront and the wishlist change itself. Aside from flooding their store with trash.
If they added actual useful things (hide owned when browsing sales for example) I'd be getting worried for Valve.

Your opinion of certain Steam features aside, I'm objectively discussing the likelihood that they'd sabotage their sales numbers by making it impossible to see what's on your wishlist.

It doesn't seem likely at all.

You just asked if they would make using their shop more difficult and I answered that; yes, they do. All the time :/
Yet useful functions liking browsing dlc just for your games old sales had dissapeared forever (instead of the logical step; have that around always).

No, that's extremely far-fetched though.

One's inefficient website design, the other's the literal removal of functionality for one of their money-making features.
The first one is just subjective opinion (though I agree, the design is terrible) while the other has no real benefit. If they were going the route you're describing, then they'd remove that functionality from the API to begin with. Also, there'd be a public statement because almost all 3rd party Steam services rely on it. Just like with CS:GO gambling for example.

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, it's far-fetched.
But then again if they announced they would limit wishlists to 350 since they want them to be real wishlists again, or bandwith issues or anything, nobody would bet an eye. We'd just scribble it down to Valve being Valve.

There's some speculation that it's a server side issue, and several people have received replies from Steam support stating they're aware of the issue and working on it.

Beyond that, I don't have much information about it.

Filters don't have anything to do with it, unfortunately. Just double checked to make sure I didn't have any filters active and I don't but it's still not showing all games.

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked as well, but unfortunately that wasn't the issue. I think based on a lot of the replies in this thread it's Steam new feature or a bug (Hoping for the latter).

Why is Steam purposefully trying to become shittier and shittier? If they keep this up it only makes other platforms more attractive, especially if those other platforms evolve in a positive way and do things better than Steam does, which, as of late, doesn't seem that hard to accomplish anymore. I'd really like to know what's going on in their heads.

I agree, these kinds of problems are inexcusable especially with the cut of revenue they take and with how much money they make. I really hope the Epic Games Store turns into a real serious threat to them, lights a fire under their collective asses instead of this complacency we have nowadays, and effects significant positive change across Steam in multiple areas.

I would say the same until i lost several days ago a Epic account. No it was not stolen (still know login and password an have access to connected email), just 2 step verification emails stop coming on my email and epic support failed to help. Now my account is lost. it is most stupid thing could happen. I said them already that I will not make any new account - for me Epic is finished already.

yes, they are sabotaging the wishlist because it's the smartest thing to do.
without wishlists they are gonna force everyone to buy the whole steam catalog...
what a masterplan! 👏👏👏

or maybe they are forcing us to move to the epic store which is x999999 times better!

I am sure that support has gotten like a million tickets by now. All the speculating is nuts. It's the weekend. Something as minor as the wishlist won't get fixed until work resumes this coming week. Like every other business, I'm sure they run on skeleton crews on the weekends unless something major happens.

I am sure there isnt a million tickets the way the support is structured as a mazed where you end up where you started. Filing a support for such an issue isn't that simple. As least I thought so. Even if I am somehow affected, I am just waiting for them to fix it. Pretty sure they are coming with some new crap behind the scene just to be more irritating to use the store more.
Well wishes for your weekend! ^_^

Have to disagree because they aren't a traditional '9-to-5' business. When you run the type of operation that Valve does you have to be well-staffed 24/7, especially when you are selling digital goods/services. I used to work in a call center for a internet/phone/TV service provider and there was never a skeleton crew.

It depends on the company, but... a family member works for a really big IT company managing certain systems for both local and international businesses here. It's their central hub for Europe. They have another base in the USA that I believe works the same since they get to go there for training on occasion. He is on call on designated weekends in case something major occurs and they need assistance, but those whose turn it is to actually work the weekends have it pretty handy. Saturday and Sunday is not business as usual, they have very few people working support and the IT people only respond if there's a big emergency.

I didn't say they were a traditional 9 to 5 :P. No IT based company really is. But I definitely expect reduced operations on weekends. You could be right, and they might have a full team of support operatives working weekends, but I prefer to assume that they don't. Less reason to get all angry with a company for not fixing non-essential stuff on a weekend. :P

Yep. lol.

My broadband has been down since Thursday forcing me to use my phone to go online. They said 2-5 working days to get their butts back out here to fix it. Our landline was disconnected while they were working on connecting a new house down the road. We thought it'd come back online that evening when they were finished whatever they were doing and it didn't. It's a lot more inconvenient than a Steam wishlist hahaa! But... I think I'll survive.

So obviously, it's your internet being out that broke everyone's wishlist!

Back to reality - ouch, yes, I can see where that would be annoying, but you've found a way around it. I do hope they get your broadband back up soon, though. Once you're used to it, it's irksome living without it.

Permalink

Of course. I did some voodoo stuff. I decided that since my broadband is down and I can't play games on my limited mobile plan, no one shall have a wishlist. >:3

It can be irksome indeed. Especially since the TV also requires an internet connection lol. Our digital receiver for local TV broke months ago and we never bothered getting it fixed since we pretty much used Netflix most of the time. Such is life. I'm getting a new digital box next week just in case this happens again. lol.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm stuck at work. Yes, there's broadband, but these PCs are running on windows XP and hardware from that era (i.e. my phone has a faster processor and more RAM), so they won't even play Netflix. -_-

However, on the rare slow day, I couldn't even dream of doing anything like watch Netflix hahaha. My computer, a massive screen iMac was facing the managers' desk. She could see everything I was doing. XD

Although it makes things much more complicated, that is not the total destruction of this functionality. Well, I hope steam will fix the issue the coming days, but on the other hand I will clean up my wishlist as well ~3k wishlisted games are definitely too much for a lifetime.
But summing it up - I'm still angry. Hate when things that worked fine stop working suddenly.

Valve mentions in their end of the year blog there will be a reworked library in 2019 here.

Steam Library Update: Some long awaited changes to the Steam Client will ship, including a reworked Steam Library, built on top of the technology we shipped in Steam Chat.

Key words in that phrase - will and library.
That has nothing to do with the wishlist.

How doesn't the Steam library have anything to do with wishlist? If they are reworking the library it definitely could have an impact on what can be viewed on the wishlist.

The games are still on the wishlist but aren't able to viewed. The wishlist rank order can't be changed atm either.

Care to explain what one has to do with the other? Or how features that haven't shipped yet are affecting something else?
I'm genuinely curious how you chose that paragraph out of that entire blog.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm not sure that is the reason. I was searching for what maybe cause the issue and I came across that in the blog and saw that so I posted it. Valve definitely did something to break the wishlist though.

I already stated what one has to do with the other..

If they are changing something on the live server in preparation for the upcoming update that very well could of messed something up.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I already stated what one has to do with the other..

You simply stated one could affect the other, and cited an update that hasn't shipped yet as the possible cause. You haven't explained how they're linked in any way or how changes to one would affect the other. Also, all major updates go through the beta client first, and we'd have some information about the changes before they ever hit the live servers.

Again, there's absolutely nothing to indicate that any changes to the Steam library would affect the wishlist. Quite the contrary in fact, since drastic changes have been made to both in the past and neither affected the other.

Edit: In my experience, the simplest solution is the most likely - there's possibly a glitch in wishlist code in a recent update, or Valve's servers ate some bad mexican food and are experiencing bad gas.
