Really Valve? We can't have mass confirm for Market listings or use coupons to override sales on games with a lower discount, but you do make a useless feature like telling us when a gift has been accepted?

That is silly.. I mean we can tell pretty easy or not if the gift is sent.

Although on the flip side I guess if someone was buying gifts on a hacked account and sending it to their main account they would be able to know now unlike before unless they actually checked recent purchases or whatever.

Mine has been stuck at 9999+ for quite some time. Don't think you can see 10k for yahoo :D

  • With all the stuff users do want, they waste time with features that don't add anything useful
  • I'm a trader, so spam ahoy since I'm not aware of a way to disable this 'feature'

This strikes me as odd.
As a trader you'd want to have as much proof of someone accepting your gift,
in fact, it's not unreasonable to believe that these e-mails are very likely the result of traders, such as you, complaining they didn't get enough proof/confirmation of people accepting their gift,
resulting in them not having any proof to post on their -Rep trading forums after being scammed..

Short version:

There are already places I can check if someone got a gift. Gift History in Inventory and Purchase History in Account. And those don't add to the email spam. I already get hundreds of emails about sold keys and purchased items, I don't need more about this.

I just want the features shown in the opening post. :P

Permalink

Useless indeed, that's what the "View Gift History" in ones Inventory under
"More" is for ... but i'd guess barely anyone knows or uses that to begin with.

Also i think that mail shows up only for gifts directly send to someone in your
friend-list not for your Gift-Links that are get claimed/taken.

They should really put their priority elsewhere instead..
Also annoying the requests for putting stuff on the market expires.. I did like idk 30 cards, and then I got lazy and thought 'yeah, I'll log in tomorrow on my cellphone and confirm those actions' ... Nope, they were gone.. Zzz...

Weird I sent a gift around 18h ago and didn't receive that email. Did they just add that feature?

Permalink

I started getting them sometime yesterday myself. Not sure of the exact time.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hm, I just got the E-Mail and now that I think about it there might be a benefit from this. If you sent a gift now regardless if the user activates it or just deposit it in his inventory I have a proof that I sent the gift in case the receiver wants to cheat me out of it and mark it as unreceived on SteamGifts by just transferring it further to another account.
It was possible to not activate the gift upon receiving it, was it?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yep.

wasn't it?*

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, you can choose not to activate it. As a trader, I'm pretty sure they aren't activating all their copies of ARK or Payday 2.

There were already two other places to check if they received it. This is just more spam I don't care about as a feature.

I actually have set up multiple rules for my email account so that mobile auth and general steam messages are filtered into special folders. They're... chocka block to say the least.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

LOL. I tried to report a bug in the Steam client, got one reply saying to contact the game developer (what?), another that seemed to be intended for another ticket, and a third basically saying "we've sent your report to the filing bin". Not very impressed with their customer service.

That said, Steam is sooo much better than Origin or Uplay, it's not funny.

I usually send keys and not gifts, so don't personally mind it, but I can see how it can be annoying. There are at least 20 other things they should have implemented before this one.
