My attempt to offer actual medical advice was blocked because someone closed Aldevil's thread. Granted, it has been four hours, so he may already have gone to see a doctor, but it was still a serious issue. Granted, SG is not a place where you can really expect to find good advice, but there is a small chance that someone may actually know something useful. (As in this case.) The person asked an important medical question and was in need of a real answer.

Speaking of which, if you don't have a medical background, you should not even say anything when such a question comes up. You can actually be sued in most countries for giving "bad advice" leading to medical complications. If you don't know what you're talking about, it's better to not even go there.

[Edit: I managed to get in touch with him on Steam, so no worries on that front.]

?

Was he like asking for advice on some acute situation here instead of asking a professional?

I've since talked with him and he is now taking appropriate steps.

It was a stupid fucking thread, just like this one. This isn't a hospital.

Then try to find a real medical forum/site. Don't post in a completely random place (and SG is that when it comes to medical issues).

This response was not useful in the slightest.

The reason people start shouting for a doctor in an emergency isn't because one is supposed to be stationed in that store/theater/bicycle rack, it is because they want help NOW and there's a small chance that someone may be available who is qualified to help. If you're not one of those people qualified to help, you can at least keep your trap shut and stay out of the way.

This doesn't work in the internet - if you shout "I need a doctor" people who don't have the qualifications tend not to do anything they shouldn't. On the internet the people who don't know a thing are the most likely to post.

That is exactly why I wanted to post a response in the first place. It turned out for the best, however, as I contacted the guy directly (which is what I should have done in the first place).

May I ask you for some medical advice as well, while you're here?

I am not a practicing physician, nor am I going to offer you medical advice beyond my capacity. You can contact me on Steam to ask me whatever you want, but you probably won't get much out of me.

You answered your own question. This is not the place to look for serious medical advice, nowhere in the Internet is the place to look for serious medical advice. You may be a medicine Nobel Prize winner or just a random idiot talking crap. No one knows. And that's why you should visit a (real) doctor if you need medical advice. And that's also why on a good forums topics where people ask for medical advice get locked.

I expect I would have locked the thread, too, but I would also have probably posted something concise about seeking appropriate medical attention (by way of explanation).
