Background: I notified a winner of one of my GAs that I'm about to send him a friend invite on Steam to deliver a key. I then sent the invite, and the following day he approached me over chat with the following:

3:46 PM - [Winner]: Hi
3:46 PM - [Winner]: Gimme teh game lol
3:47 PM - [Winner]: If I don't have Mobile Authenticator, will I still get the game instantly?
3:51 PM - [Winner]: hey
3:52 PM - [Winner]: I won [game name]
3:53 PM - [Winner]: you gotta deliver it
3:53 PM - [Winner]: ha

This text ^ is what the poll is about.

Further clarification from the winner after I sent him a link to this thread:

12:02 AM - [Winner]: Lol man, people seem overly upset
12:02 AM - [Winner]: it';s sad that they don't know the context
12:03 AM - [Winner]: you should mention that you were online and I sent those messages to wake you up
12:03 AM - [Winner]: And it's a shame you can't convey emotions through the chat
12:04 AM - [Winner]: I meant to sound like a "bro" when saying "gimme teh game lol"
12:04 AM - [Winner]: people interpreted it as rude thoughg
12:06 AM - [Winner]: but if i see you online in chat, it communicates: "I'm ready to chat", therefore ready to give the key
12:07 AM - [Winner]: 7 minutes of waiting when you think the person is ready is long; imagine waiting 7 minutes in some game lobby
12:09 AM - [Winner]: The paradox is, I'm reportedly so rude but it's me who doesn't make mountains out of molehills

Note that I didn't see this clarification so it should not factor into your vote (which is about the text above the line). If it changes your view in any way, please add a comment.

The Aftermath

I just had a long chat with the winner. He explained his point of view further and I'm now pretty sure that this unpleasant situation resulted from a combination of (1) me not making it clear that I will contact the winner rather than the other way around, (2) the winner expecting that people who are seen on Steam as Online are actually available for chat, (3) the winner not knowing what to say when he initiated the chat and awkwardly choosing the wrong words, feeling they they are lighthearted and not understanding how they can be perceived, and (4) the winner, as a new user, not knowing what's accepted and what isn't in terms of rushing GA creators.

Bottom line: Key delivered, activated and marked as received. All's well that ends well :-)

You are the GA creator. This is the text. How do you interpret it?

Nowadays, any move from someone is perceived as a attack, especially from unknown people. Just need to be easier.

Sounds like a 13 year old male. I hate 13 year old males :s

I would take it as him being pushy more so than rude (but then again, being pushy is rude). Honestly, it bugs me to no end when people assume just because youre online, that youre there to chat. Or that 7 minutes is an unreasonable amount of time to wait.

And that is why text chat is the worst way to communicate with strangers. Friends that you know VERY WELL in person are ok though.

Wow, this situation certainly escalated, he might be new to SG as he states, but it would seem (imho that) he'd be new to common courtesy (and sense) as well. Regardless, it is well that it is over.

I would make that guy wait the full 7 days and probably BL him after he got the key.

only reason i add a giver on steam is to say thanks!
As far as i'm concerned it's ALWAYS up the giver to send the gift, not the winner to ask for it or chase it.. unless it's been like over 3 days since the GA ended..
Even if adding them to chase the gift IS done.. just adding the person in steam should be enough of a hint that they are online etc..
Definitely don't ask for it in any way shape or form!!

After a giveaway is done I don't care what happens to the key.
If they don't activate it, it's their loss, not mine. It's their account after all.
I won't check for it on my winners, but usually people will check before sending a key. At that point support will be notified and probably a reroll will happen for the new game they won. That sounds like sweet enough payback.

That last sentence, don't make a mountain out of a molehill is what I kind of interpret out of this thread

I wouldn't mind... Rather than getting upset with a new user (who might be a rookie on winning stuff, or him just being a dick), I should warn him the importance of patience and rule following from gifters. By waiting X days, the guy might contact Support just in case their gift is not being given, and...

Yes, I know they'll say that they have to wait 7 days, but... If you decide to re-roll? It will not look good for the gifter, if Support is aware of you being active (Unless, as I asked to a user, misbehavior can be punished with re-rolls)...

To prevent any problems like this (and make new users familiar and nice contributors to the site), I'd prefer to inform them and teach them about the dangers of not behaving correctly, in hopes of them to understand.

While I can understand their point of view, it still comes across as rude.
But that's just my opinion.

What clarification? LOL, they just sounded even more stupid and dishonest.
"if i see you online in chat, it communicates: "I'm ready to chat", therefore ready to give the key" This just sounds selfish as all hell, dude. Like, get your head out of your ass before talking to people???

I find this rude and wouldn't be happy to deliver the game to such a person. While I might understand simple quetsion about when would I give won game to the winner, I wouldn't like such rush he was trying to make and that he was rude. That's not nice.

i felt the initial message was more cringey than rude. then his second set of messages with such a horrid justification has caused me to despise him. maybe its because he reminds me of someone , but it just aggravates me so much... this expectation that it says you are online and thus they feel entitled to your complete undivided attention, that your whole existence must suddenly be at their pleasure.

I never ask the gifter why gift is not delivered until 7 days runs out... SG rules = SG law.

Maybe that kid need to learn the rules then there wouldn't be any problem.
