In the past I have used Xtreemhost quite a lot for temporary hosting purposes. It doesn't have ads and the stats are quite good. It won't handle much traffic though. I imagine your site is quite light weight, being a portfolio, so it should work fine. An alternative, with slightly different stats, but the same provider, is Byethost. I used Byethost recently, but I had a major problem with their SQL servers, they kept going on and off frequently, so I switched to hosting on my PC instead.
