didn't know I already had it.
That's because few people think to put a link to the Steam entry in the OP, so we can quickly check.

Thanks for the DLC.
I know you can skip it but the "Follow on Twitter" step requires some ridiculous permissions.
Authorize Gleam Competition App to use your account?
This application will be able to:
- Read Tweets from your timeline.
- See who you follow, and follow new people.
- Update your profile.
- Post Tweets for you.

pretty standard really
No, it's not. One shouldn't grant write permission to any app that asks for it.
It's a trust issue after all and I don't trust any third party app to do things on my behalf, especially when Twitter's API permission policy is downright stupid by granting more rights to such apps than they should, even if they don't need them.

It's beyond my purpose to go too much into detail here but for the sake of clarification I'll add a few more things.
Source - Twitter:
Many users trust an application to read their information but not necessarily change their name or post new statuses. Updating information via the Twitter API - be it name, location or adding a new status - requires andHTTP POST. We stuck with the same restriction when implementing this. Any API method that requires an HTTP POST is considered a write method and requires read & write access.
For a list of things they can do once you grant them those permissions you can consult the Twitter's dev documentation.
You'll then, hopefully, understand why I consider those permissions ridiculous in the context of Gleam. In other words I find it ridiculous for Gleam to ask for those permissions when they can achieve their purpose without needing them.

Let me put it this way: They only have to check I performed the requested action and this covers every request, from following someone to posting a certain content. They don't have to do it for me. A read permission is enough for that. But they insist on getting a write permission.
A write permission allows them, on your behalf, to follow other people as well not only those you were asked to, plus a set of other actions like changing your name and your location among other things. In other words their approach implies a certain level of control over your account, regardless whether they abuse it or not.
Think about it, why the heck does Gleam need to update my Twitter profile and why should I let them do that?
Such things can be heavily abused and any such request should be treated as highly suspicious.
I hope it's clearer now. If not, we can always agree to disagree. :)
This is how their permissions should look like:

I particularly like orlygift's implementation where they don't give a flying fuck if you complete the Twitter action or not. They just point you in the right direction and simply trust you to do it. That's respectable.

OK :)
As everyone might have assumed, we do these giveaway for advertising purposes. Pretty obvious.
As much as we can, we keep the required action simple and easy and we always listen.
Trying to promote games, etc ...
Unfortunately we can't make a giveaway without getting anything in return.
As long as your feedback is REASONABLE, we are listening and acting.
