Welcome all to the 2nd "2in20" (Two Games in 20 Hours) Event.
Ran the first one last year around this same time.

The event is now OVER! Ended 23:59, 10th August, NZST

Giveaways are now live!

34 people have successfully finished.
Because we had over 30 people complete the event, it means I might actually run another event in a couple of months. (Thank you.)
We have about 10 other people who I have deemed eligible for entrance into the bonus giveaway.

The prize for the event is entrance into two giveaways: Death's Door and Spiritfarer

  • There's also a mystery, unbundled giveaway, to be added for all participants who put a reasonable effort in to enter!
The bonus giveaway is now revealed to be for The Sojourn
  • Entrance into giveaways is on the agreement you will play the game within 2 months of winning.
  • You may only win one game in this event - if you manage to win more, then I will ask for a re-roll for the one of your choosing.

Rules Of Event:

The event will start and end within a specific time of 10 days as announced by myself (00:00, 1st - 23:59, 10th August NZST)
Play ONE or TWO games that require a minimum combined total time of 20 hours or more to beat, within the event time

Games must meet these requirements (and are subject to further discretion by myself):

  • have achievements
  • are NOT 0CV games, or have never been given away free. (I'll be the judge on eligibility.)
  • you haven't previously started playing (idle time from card farming is generally ok)
  • have a game ending/completion (end-game achievement). MP or Sandbox games will not be allowed.
  • are beaten within the ten days of the event (DON'T start before the event starts!)

Comment with the games you'd like to play:

  • I recommend choosing backup games, just in case you don't like one of your original picks.
  • PLEASE post with links to HLTB pages and your achievements pages for the games you want to play.
  • I will then confirm length, status, achievements, eligibility.
  • if the selected or game(s) barely meet the minimum required game-time, then I may ask you to re-pick.

Fineprint:

  • If you're using HLTB, check the "Main story" time. This is the rough MINIMUM amount of time required to beat the game. I only require you to beat/finish the game, not 100% it.
  • If you choose a game or games that barely meet the minimum game-times, then I may request longer game(s) to be chosen.
  • Most games have a "complete the story/game" achievement. If your game doesn't have an "end-game" achievement, then you must let me know so I can review the choice.
  • it is your responsibility to make sure the games meet the criteria stated - if I find out after the event has started that one of the games is ineligible (freebie, too short, no end-game achievement, started before the event, etc.), then I won't be held responsible for that.
  • Once you;ve beaten the game(s), reply to first post of the thread. I'll add you on Steam, and send giveaway link(s) once live.
  • If you don't post a comment before the event is over, please don't come crying to me to make an exception for you.
  • If you don't link your Steam achievement pages for each game you complete, I will classify your completion as invalid.
  • I will run the giveaway(s) after the event is over, to give me more time to check and send invites, and set giveaway end-date.

If anyone's interested I also played 2in20 as well (but on Gamepass for the month):

  • Call of the Sea. took about 6 hours on my first playthrough, with an extra 90 mins to mop up achievements. It's a great walking sim/puzzle game with lovecraft elements. The puzzles are fairly simple, if you hunt for the clues, and the story is fairly unique and interesting. Definitely worth checking out.
  • Slime Rancher (Adventure mode). Roughly 20hrs, still missing a few things from the Slimepedia, etc, but I might continue for a little longer to see if I can get them before I call it a day. As for the gadgets and other incredulous stuff, seems little point in most of it. The devs may have big ambitions but there's just not enough gameplay. I wouldn't recommend.

Game HLTB Achievements
AI: The Somnium Files 23.5 Hours 0/45
Morkredd 2.5 Hours 0/22

I know I meet the requirements with just the first game, but I'm trying to challenge myself with getting 2 SG wins beat since I have a long weekend. c:

Thanks for hosting this event again, I enjoyed it last time too.

Oh really? :c

Thanks for the heads up. I had assumed it would be somewhat like Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons for controlling both characters, but I'm not sure how complex the puzzles are in Morkredd. I'll try seeing if I can get a friend to join in. c:

There is some single controller similarity, yeah, but it feels like it was meant for two player primarily, with the single player more of a challenge than a fun time. Also, kinda lacking in the story and feels by comparison.

OK, made my final decision about what to play, so I deleted my previous post.

My primary game will be Outer Wilds (15.5 hours) [My Achievements] COMPLETED - Unlocked "Archaeologist" achievement

My secondary game will be Observer (7 hours) [My Achievements] COMPLETED - Unlocked "Prodigal Son" achievement

just finished observer last week (both Versions), if you like to try the redux edition, its better on lights and more enjoyable for sure with rtx.on for a very clear scenario and characters, plus its have 3 little storyes added.

you acepted Adam in the final choise, how you dare ajjananjajan. i like both endings, but the other one has something special, not gonna spoil it.

the edition alow you to pick up a previus save if you are looking to see both endings or chase all archivements.

really a nice game, thats why i ended playing both versions.

I thought the side stories were great, so if the redux version has 3 more that does make me tempted to check it out.. But I'm not sure I'd want to play through everything from scratch to get to them, or at least, not for quite a while!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

yeah... the 3 story are very very shorts, you can even look for them on Youtube, the Main game Is exactly the same, its not long if you keep the doors codes to make a fast run.
but yeah, play two times the same game one after another its not always the better, i did it becouse i already have installed both, as in my first run i choose the other ending, and after the credits i found that I hace to play the entire game becouse it delete the last save (in the original) the redux leave you a previous save point at the ending of the game.

graphically Is much better the redux, its more clear and have better light for everything.

Unfortunately seems like I'm gonna fail as I ended up playing Back 4 Blood all weekend with friends. Started Sakuna though and can't wait to keep playing through it the rest of this week. I only planted my first batch of rice and it seems like it's up to me to figure out how to cultivate rice which sounds pretty cool. Not gonna look at any guides and take my time so it's probably for the best as I may have rushed to finish it. Thanks for the event though! These always seem to get people playing and talking which is quite fun.

Game HLTB Status
Endless Space 2 15½ Hours Beaten - Just Warming Up
God's Trigger 5 Hours Beaten - Apocalypse Untriggered

I totally forgot i played some Endless Space 2 a year ago. I probably retired because of inadequate computer or not having DLC's. If it's okay with you, i'd start over of course. If it's not, i'll probably go with The Pillars of the Earth (16½ hours) and Sigma Theory (4 hours) or Alien: Isolation (18½ hours) and Smile for Me (3½ hours).

Also, i am thinking about participating Monthly in a Month and PAGYWOS events with some of them too. I hope it's fine.

Ok, let's try this.

Here are 3 options, any combo should be fine..

Game HLTB Status
Life is Strange 14 hours Completed 11.4 hours, 60/60 achievements
Control 11.5 hours Dropped
Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth 16.5 hours Beaten, 14.5 hours, 36/41 achievements

Edit:
Life is Strange made me cry.. :( HLTB time seems a little off.. The only section I really struggled was the stealth section.
Control I couldn't get into.. maybe another time. Working on KFTPotE.

Edit 2:
I enjoyed Pillars of the Earth, but I felt some parts dragged on. It also felt like it would be better as a TV show? Not too much interaction to really feel much like a game.
I'm also not generally a fan of the time period and setting, with the huge focus on Christianity, but despite that still enjoyed the story. Minus of course the weird romance where they can't be together because of reasons, such as randomly becoming a monk even though he didn't want to, she married his stepbrother, then 'surprise' pregnancy. No one saw THAT coming at all...

The Introduction cutscene to each book really felt like a TV show and the music was cool here.
There was also a piece of music throughout that I recognised the beginning of the tune, can't remember from what though!

I'm a bit late to the party, let's see if I can finish this:

Darksiders III - 14h
Ikenfell - 18h

The Swords of Ditto: Mormo's Curse - 6.5h

I won't allow Swords of Ditto as a backup game.

Just to clarify, you were planning on playing BOTH Darksiders and Ikenfell?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, the plan was playing both. Swords of Ditto as a backup mostly because they're both long games and I'm not sure if I can do both.

What's the problem with Swords of Ditto?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Darksiders III + Swords of Ditto barely hits the minimum time (Ikenfell + Swords is fine)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ah, that's fine then. If I pick Swords of Ditto is to replace Darksiders III, that's the game I'm not sure I'll do in time. I'll play on hard + there's a lot of exploration and side content + I also have the DLCs, so Darksiders III will easily take me 30+ hours. Ikenfell is the more linear game (HLTB times pretty much show this: the completionist time is only 2.5h longer than the main story time).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So, since the deadline is actually the 10th, there's no way I can finish Darksiders III today (playing on hard and exploring makes the game much much longer: 17 hours and I'm still around halfway).

Ditto is still too long to finish it today (especially when the HLTB time seems to be very bogus, or there's a lot of variance in the time: a reviewer I follow finished it in 9h (and considering reviewers tend to finish games as fast as they can...), and searching on YouTube, the first walkthrough I found is 15h long.

So instead I'll do Vane - 3h

To be clear: Ikenfell + Vane.

I'm now undecided what to play next. Am considering one of these:
Slime Rancher, DOOM Eternal, NFS Hot Pursuit, Spiritfarer, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Disneyland Adventures or Prey

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, just to give a written opinion. I love Slime Rancher to death, and it is also the only game I've played out of these, so I'm a bit biased towards it.

But these are some wildly different choices. Having Slime Rancher and DOOM in the same sentence is pretty funny for example. It depends on what you're in the mood for - exploring a cute and wholesome world or death and destruction?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, I like to try things. I know what I DON'T like, and would never suggest sim or strategy for example.
I did try Doom Eternal last night in fact, and it's a pretty awesome game! really brings back the old-school Doom vibes with a mix of modern features.

Also, Slime Rancher isn't the sort of game I'd play either; except this isn't a 100+ hour farming sim, it's 20+ hours FPS "ranching".

I guess describing Slime Rancher as an FPS is technically correct? But it isn't the way I would describe it haha. I suppose if you've seen gameplay of it you'd know whether or not you would like it.

It really does make me wonder if doing a giveaway for it is a bad idea though.

I'm doing the event because I want to try Spiritfarer. But I haven't played it, so I didn't vote for it. Maybe other people think similarly.

Yeah thats the problem with polls you get more votes then people taking part most of the time. Its also probably a thing where people want spirit but because they haven't played it they won't vote for it. I also checked out that call of the sea you mentioned, looks good so I added it to my wishlist

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's kinda why I suggested doing a multiple choice poll. The "vote for one", aka First-Past-The-Post voting system is... kind of a mess. XD

So my suggestion was "don't ask for a favourite, ask people to tick all the games they are interested in" (admittedly it's based entirely on this one short video but the logic is sound for a quick vote).

I mean, I voted for Spiritfarer (in the giveaway poll), so I'm fine either way this time. ^_^'

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's troll-voting that I despise, there's really no way to mediate that. I've tried multi-choice polls before and the results are generally the same reliability as single-choice polls, except that there are a lot more votes so it looks like a more impressive sample size .
For "my next game to play" poll, I could have run it for a longer period of time, but I needed to start playing it to try and beat it before the event concluded ;) My selection was eclectic, but the game that won was unexpected.

I'm afraid that Bombshell was bad game to choose xD
It's bugged beyond imagination - I had to repeat 2 whole chapters due to game breaking bug that made finishing of the level impossible xD
Also crashes to desktop... Beside that game is pure twin-stick fun (at least for me) so I'm going to finish it anyway

Anyway - I could make with all games just in time but then shit hit the fan in real world (read - my boss is an asshole) and I couldn't be on PC for almost 36h, now I'm on different computer and have to redownload games again (with bad connection). That + limited time and I'm not sure if I'm going to make it in time :/
Thanks for the event :) Sorry I couldn't finish tasks in time I'll try but it's not likely to happen

EDIT: not gonna happen. After 10h of downloading i noticed that it doesn't have cloud saving so... Yeah - thanks for the event. I'll finish these games for sure but there is no way for me to properly finish the event :)
Good luck to everybody else!

I'm confused about the time. At the time of this post, August 11th 23:59 NZST is in 54h, but you say 38h left.

The event will start and end within a specific time of 10 days as announced by myself (00:00, 1st - 23:59, 10th August NZST)

The event is 10 days. Take the rules time. I have corrected the bold time, as this would make it 11 days.

(If you had read it correctly, it said midnight, 11th August 23:59. In other words it was contradictory. Midnight is 00:00, which is the start of the 11th)

The event is 10 days. Take the rules time. I have corrected the bold time, as this would make it 11 days.

I did find the threat late, but I read it and found you cancelled it and later reenabled it, so I assumed the event started later. To be more precise, I though it started when you wrote this post. Last year you did a post indicating when people could start, I though this post was that. That's why the event ending on the 11th seemed correct.

If you had read it correctly, it said midnight, 11th August 23:59. In other words it was contradictory. Midnight is 00:00, which is the start of the 11th

The most obvious interpretation to me is that midnight there was used as an approximation. So 11th August 23:59, midnight because that's almost 12th August 0:00.

And if you wonder why I took the date in big bold text instead of the written in the rules: I first read the post late night, so I didn't put much attention to the dates then. It was the next day, when I started playing, when I came here to check the exact deadline. Of course I didn't read the full post a second time, I looked at the date in big bold text and assumed it was correct. You can blame me for assuming that and not checking the date in the rules.

Anyway, I'll see what I can do. No way I can finish Darksiders III today so I'll look for a shorter second game.

You’re gonna have to find a game that’s at least 5.5 hours long. At the time of this post your game time in ikenfell is less than 15hours

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I haven't finished Ikenfell yet.

You have to make up your mind. It's either 20h according to HLTB (which is what your rules say), or 20 hours actual game play (which is something you come up now on the last day). Because if it's the second I could have just finished Darksiders III alone (I stopped playing it on Saturday with 17h in it to finish Ikenfell first), which will be take me at least 25h.

Yes, HLTB can be very inaccurate, on both ways (sometimes it takes longer than stated, sometimes shorter). If you decide to abide to what HLTB says and use that as the base of the rules, you should then commit to that, in both cases. Rules should be there to abide to them, by everyone, and that should include you.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I thought you had finished Ikenfell, by mentioning that you wouldn't be able to finish Darksiders. I was only pointing out, that based on the game-time you currently had, that you'd need a longer 2nd game to satisfy the minimum requirements of the event.

I use the HLTB average as a minimum, and most people complain that it's going to take a lot more time to complete. With games that don't have many completions on HLTB, then the times are more inaccurate.
I already have enough clauses in my rules for individuals to be responsible for their own game-time.

If you're going to kick up a fuss about this in the future, please don't participate.

Permalink

Sorry about that.

Ikenfell ended up taking quite more time than expected. I did a Marathon yesterday and managed to finish it, 25 hours in total and that rushing the ending, but it was too late and I needed sleep, so I didn't even start Vane.

Thanks a lot for the event. I enjoy participating, too bad I started late and the confusion with the deadline made it even worse for me.

It seems I have bitten off way more than I can chew: I won't be able to finish Prey in time. Ori and the Blind Forest took much more time than expected - HLTB average felt kind of misleading there. I was probably fatigued as I jumped straight into this event after barely finishing my entry for "Monthly in a Month" but still... It looks like you would really need to rush through the game to finish it in 8,5 hours and I don't recommend doing that while playing this visual masterpiece.

Thanks for the challenge and a chance to play some different games than in regular events.

I'm in the fail crew :S I did complete TWD S3 at least, but it all went to hell when I started HuniePop 2. They've added new gameplay elements that basically are there for punishing you, so the game is harder than the first game and not in a fun way. Still going to find a way to complete it but I don't have the power to grind through it like I had with the much more chill HuniePop 1. I also looked through other games that would fit the event but I didn't find anything that I was in the mood for and I would much rather continue playing Ace Attorney atm.

Thank you for the event though :) At least it got me a new 100%.

I liked some of the extra things but yeah definitely annoying. I liked the ones which let me get rid of broken hearts but ones that were like don't you dare make the same move twice with me, dont gain things with this was a total pain. Plus you gotta replay it 3 times! At least you could date whatever time instead of waiting for night time
