Until I posted this here, I wasn't aware it was just an unrelated Chinese company releasing them. Now that I'm aware of that, I'm worried about the quality of these phones.

Thanks for claryfing.
Here are two good texts about it, if you are interested:
About what phone you are actually buying - it's already existing model with new name

Speccy master race! :D:
Actually to tell the truth in late 80s (1st ZX came to our home in late 88 or early 89 I believe) there were very little CMs in Poland, all major Universities and companies that were introducing computerisation to their business were using ZXs in 95% cases. So it was much easier to get a used ZX than CM. And when there started to appear more and more CMs in early-mid 90s (end of communism, borders finally opened, a lot of used hardware dumped to marked from western countries) my dad was already having contacts at Unis and instead of having premade machines we already had PC. By 1995, when best most of my friends had were used CMs I was already running a beast with one of early Intel Pentiums - so I wouldn't call myself from back then "poor me" :D:

+1 Speccy master race. My first computer was a 48k Spectrum in about '86. I later upgraded to an Atari ST and from that to my 486 DX2-66 hardcore gaming rig with Voodoo Banshee graphics...

Ah yeah, the MSX - now those have history.
The first generation was actually Bill Gates' first stab at pushing the "same OS for different hardware" philisophy. And then Microsoft pulled out due to it not succeeding in the US market, while it was a major player in Europe and Asia.
As far as gaming goes, this is where you'll find the roots of some classic Japanese franchises - Ys series, Metal Gear, Eggerland (better known as Adventures of Lolo to many), Dragon Slayer series (which morphed into Legend of Heroes -> which for Steam-minded folk should be known best for the Trails in the Sky subseries.) and others.

I had the version with the data recorder (tapes) but luckily I had some cartridges too from Konami. (Metal Gear, Penguin Adventure and F1 Spirit)

Luxury! I used to play on a tiny black and white telly via UHF, and I would get interference from a local TV station which broadcast on a close frequency :)

I have exact that C64 setup (Schneider) in my basement.

Exactly! It looks like a rebranded DOOGEE DG550 with some extra RAM. ($130 phone + $20 for another GB of RAM) x 2 for Commodore branding.
Edit: It has been pointed out elsewhere that its design is identical to the Orgtec-Wa, which ships with 2GB of RAM and has a price point of $150. Commodore Business Machines denies having any partnership with Orgtec.

I sure remember fondly both my C64 and my Amiga. What I am not too fond of is these guys' business model
1 Buy a dead brand
2 Buy a Chinese smartphone
3 Preload a free emulator
4 Apply a 100% markup
5 Try to cash in on nostalgia and profit

For what it's worth, I think Cloanto handled the emulation side fairly gracefully. Amiga Forever is a nice package for those unfamiliar with configuring WinUAE and the interface is appealing. Your 30 bucks gets you legal ROMs and Workbench ADFs from version 1.0 to 3.1 (though only 3.1 comes complete with install disks). You may very well argue that people are just going to pirate the games they play on it, so why not go one step further and do the same for the ROMs and workbench? But at the end of the day they rightfully bought the copyrights and had the decency to make a nice frontend pre-loaded with some things.
The only thing they did that set me off was that they originally distributed it with encrypted ROMs and added illegal opcodes to the 3.x ROMs so that they weren't able to be used on original hardware. It seems they no longer do this though.

You seem to know a lot more than me about the current state of Commodore emulation, so I will accept your wisdom. :)
But from what I've read, they are using VICE and not WinUAE/Amiga Forever. Actual Amiga emulation might not even be in their plans.

Ah! I was speaking about how Cloanto handled the Windows side of things and how it reflects on them as a company. They now fully own the rights to the Amiga and Commodore trademarks, so I'm thinking they must have some involvement with this new product.
An article on Wired says it will be able to do C64 and Amiga emulation. I think UAE is the only Amiga emulator that has been ported to Android. Interestingly, Paolo Besser, the "General Manager" of Commodore Business Machines, has been commenting on a lot of articles about this product. One thing that he has mentioned is that the phone will not use official Amiga ROMs, but rather the open-source alternative AROS.

All right... But I would say the ones running the mobile business are not Cloanto. They probably just acquired rights to the brand in the mobile world.

You're right. More diggery.
"Commodore Business Machines Ltd is a brand new company"
"We have registered our own name and trademarks under the terms and conditions of european laws, and we don’t retain any Amiga intellectual property."
I have a feeling that wouldn't have flown if someone tried to become the next Apple or Microsoft. The fact that someone can just form a company and call it Commodore boggles the mind.

Yep. Like I said in my first post, rotten business model. Frankly I hope this fails and the Commodore name can be left to bit-rot in peace.

I had a good collection of C64 and Spectrum computers, now sadly reduced to just a couple of Amiga computers.

Use screwdriver, load game from tape (10 minutes), syntax error - repeat xD
I loved this :)

I never had the tape drive, I had a 5 1/4 inch floppy drive with around 300copied disks. :D

Its not the same :) Also I had only 1 original game and like 30 copied with tape recorder.. But you cannot call me pirate.. Back then there wasn't even copyright law in my country, and it was nearly impossible to buy original game (even in game shops all games were just copied versions, with poorly made label - usually 10-12 games on 1 casette xD).

I still play Cannon Fodder, Syndicate, Moonstone and Crazy Football :D

No, "They" aren't doing a phone. People who bought the logo (or a license to use it) are going to sell those clones.
Unfortunately, what was once Commodore no longer exists... :'(

My biggest memory or Commodore was that they sponsored the Bayern Munich and Chelsea football teams. Think 1 friend might have had a C64 and later an Amiga but Spectrums and the Atari ST were more popular where I grew up.
I had none of the above and went from an Acorn Electron to an Amstrad CPC6128 before getting a NES. From then on I was console or handhelds only for a long time.

Still have my C64 but my first one was a Schneider CPC 6128 :D
I bought a cable to connect the C64 Floppy drive to the PC and make Images of all my old disks.
Commodore phone sounds interesting, but the brand has nothing in common with the old one.
