So there is topic about most underrated. Shoud be an opposite of that, shouldnt it?
I think Mark of the Ninja or Dishonored - overrated.
Also we can discuss most overrated game of all time. My thoughts: Half Life 2. Nothing special.(except for Gravity Gun, which is really awesome)
Comment has been collapsed.
No, its call of duty
It wins this award every year
MODS BAN THIS SICK FILTH!
how about fortix 2?
Shun the non-believer! Shunnnnnnnn~~
I dont hear that much good stuff of Mark of the Ninja or Dishonored
the best i hear about MotN is "good for the price" and that's it
It's 91/100 on metacritic.com, so, i guess, overrated it is.
But Mark of the Ninja and Dishonored are actually really good. Generally things like Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty tend to be the most overrated (Skyrim has to be the most overrated game ever) but I've actually not heard a lot of those games so I can't make that call this year.
Mark of the Ninja sits in my backlog so might be true. But I enjoyed Dishonored a lot, I heard it had great stealth and was above average fun, turns out it had great stealth and was above average fun. Rated properly IMO.
What's bad about Mark of the Ninja? Also, it sold poorly on XBLA, which is the reason Microsoft put it on PC. So other than it getting a good score on metacritic, how is it overrated?
Both of those games are amazing. Mark of the Ninja pretty much revolutionized stealth gameplay.
Revolutionized? I don't think so, but it definitely had the best stealth mechanics of any game in years. (in addition to excellent graphics, animations, theme, haikus, replayability, and controls)
Two of the best stealth games I've ever played. Value for money too.
maybe you don't hear good stuff about it because it is actually underrated
even though it got good scores not alot of people played it so of course you wouldn't hear about it
^ This. So much.
Haven't released yet.
Of course you would disqualify it from the list, Mr. 460 hours.
While your claim is 100% legit, Mr. 0 hours. (go on, check my profile now, you know you want to)
I don't like MOBAs at all. I don't need to play Dota to know I won't enjoy it :)
Well then how does that make a great game - of the genre that you don't like - overrated?
Isn't this all about individual opinions? That's my opinion. There's no way to tangible way to measure "overrated-ness". It's all about opinion. Sorry you don't agree with it. Looks like many others do.
Very much this. Either you like it, or you don't. Simple as that.
Well just because - for the sake of the argument - I don't fancy fps games as a general, thus don't like counter-strike, I still know it is good in it's genre and not overrated by the masses.
So yeah I don't agree with your view on what being overrated means. The same way I don't agree with many others who say Diablo 3 is overrated. It's not and people generally acclaimed that it wasn't good, so there is nothing overrating about it. Moving on..
You could say that it's overrated when it'll release and i'll fine with that.
Is it going to be not a MOBA when it's released? That might change my opinion.
It´s not a MOBA it´s an ARTS
its not overated at all its the most played game at steam
Only if we could see your LoL/HoN hours. I'll put my money on 1000+
You're about 1000+ too high.
LoL is even more overrated than DotA, sadly it didn't release in 2012 or it would be on top of the list.
I find Dota 2 pretty fun, and I hated LoL.
This...but because the community = Bad time.
The community is lame, indeed. But the game itself is really good.
Indeed, stick playing with friends and it's all good.
Yeah...I tried a couple servers and just got aggravated at the immaturity though....I mean I thought Xbox Live was bad. :-/
I dont like LoL or Hon... and i really enjoy Dota 2, i think its not overrated, its a damn fun game to play, maybe not that good.. still alot better than LoL.
Too many russians on Dota 2..
Absolutely agree. This game is just a piece of shit.
You clearly never played the game, if you do, your opinoin will change
shut up google chrome, everyone's entitled to their own opinions/suggestions!
Disagree... Dishonored is one of the best games of the last year.
Far Cry 3 - just because you like that Vass dude it doesent mean that the game has good story and its best thing ever.
^ This one. Don't really understand all the praise that one has gotten :/
Nope.....Far Cry 3 GOTY Best game probably now....
I think not. In my personal opinion I don't find that game the least bit appealing, it's just not the kind of game I would enjoy playing. But besides my personal thoughts, I don't think the game deserves the overall praise it has gotten. It's not anything special or unique, so I don't understand why people are giving it so much recognition.
I agree with you, because all i liked in that game was just 1 character and the story seemed foolish and illogical.
I just liked the complete game, first pirate to test, but in a day after that I bought it.
I think it is a really good game.
I was about to make Far Cry 3 comment but you're quicker xD I don't even understand why people like Vass, he's just annoying and that's all.
Both are stealth games and both are fucking awesome... ever thought that maybe you just don't like the genre ?
I think that Arkane studio never will do something better that Arx Fatalis, and MotN is just a scroller. Both games are fine, but nothing more than that.
"just a scroller"
"Nothing more than that"
You're no longer allowed to talk about over/underrated games.
Agreed... he's got no clue what he's talking about... =/
+1 to this guy
2.Hide in the box
I only want to rate games that I own, so it's Dear Esther. Because it's boring and even as interactive story or whatever it is it's bad.
I looked at it and that's exactly what I thought.
I liked it a whole lot but I can totally agree that it falls under overrated due to one major point. Games like Dear Esther are only enjoyed by a niche group, but I have seen a lot of generalized promotion of the game as if anyone would find it amazing. So from a general prospective, overrated.
it is high in my whshlist, i guess i'd let it down?
Remove it, or keep it when you like a game where everything you do is walking slowly on an island and hearing some voice acting lines sometimes.
+1. I really tried to play it, and i play a lot of indie and "art" thingies but... That was too much. Just boring, and the narrative (that is the main part of the game) is by no means that cool if you are used to reading some quality novels. So yeah, another 30' played steam sales buy.
Don't feed the troll, pls
Thats your second comment ever - thanks. I feel honored!
cus leveling up in a fps is stupid
I actually think of it as a Diablo-like first, and FPS second, so it makes sense to me.
Because it sucks? lol
Borderlands 2 got all the praise it deserved.
Hell, needs more praising
Agree. That game was too childish, never understood all the fuss about it.
I'd say FC3 since it doesn't look very interesting, but I haven't actually played it myself. Dota2 is a very good possibility as bobofatt said, but I really think I have to go with Diablo 3. It's... really bad, and even with the sh*tstorm the internet threw up, it's still (kinda) alive and running an 88 on metacritic.
As far as all time goes... I hate to say it, since it's my single favorite RPG, but FF7. It was a solid game for its time, but it wasn't the best even then. Now, it just kinda pales.
FC3 has pretty good mechanics and a decent storyline.
when Diablo 3 came out, my buddy went to the store and bought it as soon as he could, i was there with him because he wanted to play it with me, while he enjoyed that game i was highly disgusted at how everything in that game got casualised to the point it was not even challenging to play... and neither fun to play.
You never got to original Inferno then. It was most certainly NOT for casual players, in the least.
You are a sad person, aren't you?
There are three ways to live each moment of your life: 3.Being Ignorant and Apathetic ("i don't know and i don't care"). 2.Being Spiteful (angry). 1.Being Wonderful (appreciating the beauty). Never forget that every moment has it's beauty, because of it's uniqueness. It happens only once like this. Even the seamingly repeating circumstances are always different.
I think that's a bit too optimistic.
If that's your choice.. Never forget it's a matter of choice.
Thats to Black and White.
I fall more into intelligent(Sad by the state of the world but know there is some good so it keeps my head just above water where I don't drown).
Don't you dare call ignorance the same as apathy. I'm apathetic, yet I'm 100% not ignorant. Please try to view things from a different perspective before you say something that might hurt someone. Enjoying life isn't a choice either, it's just the brain chemicals that determine how you feel, for example: depression isn't a choice.
I think he meant ignorance equates to apathy because someone who is apathetic will experience less and thus remain more ignorant.
Or I'm wrong and he just doesn't know what the two words mean.
What i meant to say is that, ignorance and apathy spring from the same attitude sometimes, the phlegmatic temperament towards what's experienced. Ignorance and Apathy together are: "i don't know and i don't care". You see, "I don't know" is ok by itself, but linked to "I don't even care" is destructive. There, i modified the original post to be more explicit.
I know gameplay can be rough at times, but hey. The graphics is good.
That was a pretty crappy boardgame.
If that's the way you want to view it..
Unless you modded it :D
Or mod your view of it.
But there is no FOV slider and you also can't change to a third person camera :(
Oh, but there is, it's just matter of perspective.
Yeah dude, most expensive DLC ever. Good beer is always at least five bucks. Nice meals are 40 or more. All this puts you into a new weight category where you now have to buy fitness DLC or spend more on nourishment DLC. Vicious cycle. There is of course more... Blowjobs are twenty one time or a daily subscription fee. ex is even worse, you have to subscribe and buy one time DLCs for your subscription! It is a scam, I am sure. And no matter what you do, eventually you will reach the inevitable game over screen. That DLC is the most expensive. 20 grand for the coffin burial? Five for the cremation dlc? Give me the lighter and fuel dlc, only five bucks, do it myself, save some credits so ym kids can get better dlc.
It'll get balanced in the next patch, worry not
For releases I would say that Diablo 3 and Mass Effect 3 win hands down
Diablo 3 for sure was a major disappointment, but the RMAH more than compensated for the games cost at least. Heh.
That's why people are hating on it all across the internets, because it's overrated. Makes sense to me.
You're right on Diablo 3, Mass Effect 3 deserved the praise it got though, which wasn't even that much in comparison to other games. I'd argue it's underrated.
+1 for Diablo 3. Worst fucking impulse buy ever.
Overrated doesnt means to be badly criticized from every gamer.
I take in account all the hype both generated, not the criticism. For D3, people expected it to be more like the second game, and it wasn't.
Diablo 3 overrated? I don't know about you but I've heard more complaints about it than praises, which is not the definition of overrated. Disappointing, maybe. Overrated though?
Overly hyped or overly anticipated, perhaps.
My thoughts exactly. I consider it the most overrated release due to the hype it generated. And even if criticised, most people who talk shit about it probably never played it and just repeat like parrots the shit they read/heard about it.
That was 2011.
Overrated Game of the Year, All Years
Oh, didn't notice that. I'd say Skyrim is pretty overrated though... although I have put over 100 hours into it.
As TotalBiscuit puts it: It's a vast ocean as shallow as a kiddie pool (or something to that extent)
The only reason that I played so much of Skyrim was the explorations. That's really the only thing it had going for it apart from all the mods.
80% of playtime is used to travel to a new location for beginners...after that, it's all fast travel. lolz
Wouldn't say it's overrated, like all Bethesda games, the mods make the game ;)
What skyrim mods do you like?
Call of Duty.
Here we go again.
A straightforward shooter that appeals to a wide audience? How COULD they?
So a while back i got MW2 and black ops, multiplayer is rubbish and rented MW3, didnt see a single difference and it should be thrown into the same place where noone can find it.
All I want is for steam to launch it T_T
I loved that game. </3
Dishonored and Journey
journey so far, it has barely gameplay and it's just an hour game... i beat it like in 45 minutes, bu bu teh art style
I loved Dishonored. It was short but insane amounts of fun.
Took me 24 hours. At 16-18 hours I'm ready to be done with any game even if the main game mechanic is fun. Too long for a story based game.
"Too long". And people complain about short games later.
I'd say Spec Ops: The Line. Solid game, good story, and I really enjoyed it. But it wasn't anything all that earth-shattering I feel. It's kinda sad that it's held up as a great example of story-telling in games.
But Spec Ops: The Line wasn't overrated, it bombed in terms of sales :S
Not a big surprise. It's 6-8hrs long game, with no replayablity and forgettable multiplayer. It's one of the worst values for AAA prices, I've seen in years. Especially, that as a game - it wasn't even all that entertaining.
It's good that there even is some multiplayer and dumb achievements (which add at least some replayablity to the game), because without them, I'd have problems recommending this game even for 5€ price tag.
Mediocre shooter with an interesting story... good experience, but not really something that I'd call a good game.
I haven't finished it yet, but I think I'm near the end at around 6.5 hours. Unlocking the FUBAR difficulty and making different choices will warrant a second playthrough for me, and of course the achievements will probably boost game time to around 10-12 hours.
The multiplayer is garbage (haven't even tried it because the single player development team expressed how horrified they were with the multiplayer). I think that a full retail price isn't worth it, but half price would definitely be worth it for me. It's such a nice break from the standard shooters out there that always fuck up the story and characters. The gameplay is the weakest element but it's still fun! I'm not even a big fan of third person shooters and yet I was impressed with Spec Ops, it gave me a unique feeling compared with most games I've spent more money on.
Despite all odds, FUBAR killed the game even more for me - difficulty clearly shows, the game wasn't designed with it in mind and that it may have even been added in the last few days of developement without proper play-testing. I'd recommend avoiding this difficulty.
The choices in game add a nice illusion of freedom, but sadly - aside for one of two right at the end, they are meaningless and don't affect much... they especially do not affect the ending.
I didn't want to hear that :( I'm suffering at times on Hard difficulty so I knew it would be very tough, but I didn't think it would be that bad.
Maybe I'm just happy to be in a believable Dubai rather than Brazil or Russia or some other done to death country.
Dead Island was 2011
Sorry :< my bad
I think Bad Rats The Revenge was totally overrated guys. amirite? guys?
Don't you dare call HL2 overrated...
I think I'm going to go with the obvious, COD:BO2.
To be fair, it was much less hyped than previous games and, ironically, actually better than the previous games.
It may be less overrated, but still the most overrated game in 2012.
I would argue more for Diablo 3, quite frankly.
Well I'm not sure that really counts as overrated because after the release most people figured out it wasn't very good. Possibly the most over hyped though.
Black Ops 2 may have been the most overhyped until it released and people realized it wasn't very bad (which is maybe why it didn't end up being as overrated?)
Black Ops 2 was a step up from the previous COD games. Definitely not overrated, a very fun game with plenty of content.
I would say that too, because i see no visual or other difference from other call of duty series games. I haven't played it and wouldn't even want to try.
black ops 2
Call of Duty:Black Ops 2 Although i didn't play pc i got it for 360 (via redbox)and played it... it has curse words and blood and a gun i mean hello?!? And Target Terror i mean fuck a Gun and no cursing and blood and a M rating? It should be T or E10+
Don't get it for pc, it's already dead and it's pretty bad compared to other pc ports.
Actually, Blops 2 is the best cod PC port since cod 4. But still, nothing good.
but not THAT good
Good enough that I might fail this semester, thats good enough for me.
Far Cry 3, funny Shooter with a nice World but surely not GOTY
Seeing as it barley won any GOTY awards I guess it would make sense that it isn't GOTY? Not GOTY does not mean overrated...
For example: http://www.gamespot.com/best-of-2012/peoples-choice/index.html?page=2
