as for resetting - I used "Load Optimized Defaults" within BIOS Menu. I hope that is enough. I also used automatic settings and DOCP just to try all options. All give the same blue screens or repair menu.
And to clarify - I am not using 2x4GB + 1x8GB.
I now have in the system 2x4GB working in dual channel mode.
I want to upgrade that to 2x8GB. But it fails to work in dual channel mode. Both RAM sticks are from a matching kit, so theoretically should be fine.
Could be that the Corsaire Vengeance rams are not meant for dual channel?

The slots should work, since I tested the DIMMs independently with the original RAM.
So in this case it does look the memory controller or something else does not work together well with the new RAM
Thats why I am hoping to hear opinions on this. Thanks :)

First check if BIOS is latest version if not update. Your new RAM sticks might be too much to handle for your mobo. You can try two approaches in BIOS: losen timings at the default frequency or lower frequency and tighten timings. Note also there are motherboards which outright refuse to boot with sticks above a certain frequency. Also check QVL for your mobo which shows you the tested and approved RAM sticks.

Havent checked the BIOS version. But will try to figure out how to do that.
I checked the QVL list and these sticks are not in the list. So that is why I share the concern that the RAMs bight just be too much as you say. The MOBO and CPU should theoretically handle 1866 MHz, so I was hoping that even if not oficially supported, at 1600 MHz ir should work.
Anyway, hoping to hear some opinions. But if other people will say that they are just not compatible, I will rest assured I have tried whta I can to get them working.
PS. Thanks for the comment :) Will try some combinations of frequencies and timings and see if anything helps it.

Can't stress enough how important update to latest BIOS is. All user feedback and test results are destilled in BIOS version helping with compatibility and maybe even adding new features to hardware. If you don't know how to do it watch a how to video.

Very quick googling says:
Your MOBO should support "1066,1333,1866,2133 MHz" and "DDR3" (info from tech store's page for the MOBO that is still up)
Your CPU should support "800/1066/1333/1600/1866*(OC)" and "DDR3" (NOTE: from old forum post since most manuals and such are long gone..so no real way to verify that info sadly ^^)
So in theory your RAM should be fine with 1333 or 1600 at least.
I wont really mention anything else because my expertise with these probably end here and I dont wanna screw you over. But hope that helps some way?
Also bump for GA, PREY is great game

You can generally put SLOWER speed Ram into a MOBO , but not always faster speed Ram. I suspect the MOBO and CPU combo doesn’t fully support the new RAM you’re using unfortunately. I had this same issue with a MOBO back in an old Celeron setup - it said it supported a certain speed, but I could never get it to run with the highest speed Ram and capacity it stated was compatible.

My 40 year old vectrex still runs too, it doesn't say much...
10 years ago your machine might have been great, now you have a machine on life support and you are just adding patches, if only you want the support of windows 11.
Anyway you got a clear windows error code which tells you a lot, a simple google will tell you it's related to added ram.
1 option is to try turn xmp on or off in bios.
And run System File Checker: SFC /scannow to scan and clear any corrupted files.
Best option hard as that is, is always try to run a new windows installation, and you are not even saying what OS you are running.

Still works quite fine, so a bit over the top to imply its obsolete. Been playing Far Cry 5, New Dawn, GTA5, Dirt Rally 2.0, Forza 4, Death Stranding, Both Plague tale games. I would say that for 10 year old setup on life support that is still very admirable, if you want to categorize it like that. Either way, will eventually upgrade, but before I do, RAM upgrade for this build will suffice. Since I have to go full setup upgrade with new MOBO, RAM, CPU, cheap old RAM at given time is still best option.
Anyway - XMP (or as I understand DOCP on my platform) is alternative for Manual setup for RAM. So it should be disabled when I manually reconfigure the ram.
As for the windows - I have Windows 10, dont rightly care for Win11 and support, since the laptop is meant for work and anything serious and has it. The PC can stay as is for gaming. As for system files - it randomly shows different system files on different startups. And when I reinstall old ram (or use corsair in single channel) windows works fine and does not show any corrupt files. Would new install really change anything? As for me it doesnt seem an issue with windows, but with the HW which triggers windows not to start correctly which would be the case with new install as well.
But thats why I want to hear opinion of someone more knowledgable on this. Maybe I am going at it backwards.
Anyway - Thanks for the input.

I am not saying obsolete, one can run a dos machine and be satisfied with that, and aren't many of us running old steam games on dosbox?
My point was more you will run against windows life support most of all ending this year, if you don't care about that, then so be it.
If you are perfectly happy with GTA5 and don't want to play GTA 6 or indiana jones (because Steamdeck 1 will have it's limitations too) then be happy with what you have.
Windows throws you the BSOD with an error code (which you could investigate further in event viewer to get more info), so that makes it a windows error (too). Files can get corrupted, windows can get confused.
You should always start at the base (BIOS) but completely ruling out a fresh windows install is never a crazy idea to also try atleast (and again that also depends per person how easy that is for them).
Have you tried switching the new ram sticks with eachother? And how new are they, like have they been used in another computer, are they new, it could also be a faulty stick even, if you had another pc, or know someone you could try those sticks out there (and vice versa) that would make it a lot easier to rule out things. Or try one stick first.

by the time GTA6 comes out, Ill probably have a new setup anyway :D But sure, when Ill start running into not being able to run the new games I want, Ill finally move over to a new build. Its not that I am dead set on staying on an old build. For some time I had PC for work purposes with 3070 and ryzen 9 and 64 GB RAM. Not working there anymore so for personal use went back to the old PC. So I am of course open for upgrading to a newer setup. But as I said - for now, why not this small upgrade if I have the parts on hand.
As for windows - thanks for suggestion. Will try out new install. Cant hurt ;)
And RAM sticks - used, came from PC where they worked fine. Trying out the sticks one by one and running memory test also shows no issues. They only throw the BSOD for me whe trying dual channel.

As some said, you should upgrade the BIOS. Asus is terrible when It comes to compatibility and adding BIOS updates is the way to go. What I don't know is If you should upgrade to the latest version from start or just upgrade to the next number from yours because sometimes latest Updates just mess things even more. It's like they say "If It's not broken don't fix It".
Maybe the right step is just add the next BIOS version closer to your number and see If the problem is solved. If not, upgrade to the next BIOS version.
These problems we're always a pain in the butt. It's always better to keep with modules that are non O.C. for the system. 1600 mhz in your case.
If your mobo was a 99 model you probably wouldnt have a problem and who knows...FX systems always had problems with rams if I recall.
I had a FX 6300 and run Corsair Vengeance Modules at 1333mhz (1600 mhz XMP) but the motherboard was lower quality than yours.
Good luck.

Honestly, it could be a number of things considering the pc's age, not many people have knowledge on am3 because it's not a great cpu socket, I'd recommend just selling the pc and building a newer one, as it's likely your pc has run its course

I think basically your computer is getting old. DDR3 memory is basically not supported anymore.
I would update BIOS; if you know how

Hi guys,
So, I have my old ass build from 10 or so years ago with AMD FX processor and DDR3 memory. But it still holds up valiantly. I do want to upgrade to Ryzen eventually. but with steamdeck on hand and most games I play running on the old system, I dont see the point for now. I know the parts are cheap and may not have the best compatibillity, but I bought these when I was in school and knew little about PCs. Considering it has worked for more then 10 years I wouldnt call it a bad build or purchase, but I get that there may be issues with performance and compatibilities of MOBO, CPU and PSU.. But this time not about that.
It has M5A97 LE R2.0 MOBO - low end, cheap mobo, but works
FX-8320 CPU, which I guess has some issues with higher frequency RAMS
Corsair CS650 PSU - cheap one as well with some voltage instabilities, but so far have worked fine
I got my hands on GTX1070 some time ago and despite bottnlecking CPU in some games, definitely gives way better performance then my original 750ti which I had initially. Also have upgraded it with SSD. Some days ago I also got some Corsaire Vengeance 16 GB Ram (2x8GB). They are 1866 MHz, 10-11-10-30, 1.50V sticks
Originally I had HyperX Savage 8 GB (2x4GB) 1600 MHz sticks in. Wanted to upgrade the 8GB to 16GB to give a little bit more life into the system. But I cant seem to get the PC to work. Initially it says "Overclock failed", basically saying it cant get the system starting. Eventually it just started giving me blue screens saying that system files are corrupted (Error 0xc0000221 etc), leading me to think that windows is failing due to HW issue.
From troubleshooting I tested both corsair sticks independently in single channel and run memory test. Both sticks work fine and show no issues. What was wierd that testing single stick in the dual channel it still is giving me an issue, so it could mean that specificelly in the dual channel it cant get the RAM to work steadely. Just to be safe I tested HyperX ram independently in single channel and dual channel and both work fine, also showing that everythings fine software wise (At least for those RAM sticks) and the DIMM slots.
So, with Corsaire sticks in dual channel slots, I set the frequency to 1600 MHz, set the timings to 10-11-10-30 and manually set the voltage to 1.50V. As I understand this should have made the sticks work more stable (this is when overclock failed window disappears and I start getting corrupted blue screens. I also tried lowering frequency to 1333 MHz but I still keep getting the issue.
I have not resetted anything for motherboard or updated any drivers so it might be that I am missing something crucial in getting new RAM sticks working fine, but did some checking with ChatGPT and it says the sticks at hand are not oficially verified by the MOBO and I might have issues with CPU and MOBO getting the corsaire sticks working fine.
Anyone with more tech knlowedge might comment on this? Am I doomed with this and no way getting to work the corsaire ram steadely or is there some crucial detail I missed that I have to do?
Obligatory GA
