I've been without internet at home for two days. If not for some anime and porn backlog saved to PC, I'd only have games to fill my time. And since modems are expensive, I can't do what I intended this week (which wasn't buying games for once)

I'd only have games to fill my time.
And you're complaining?!
Seriously though, that sucks. I've gone without internet for a couple of days in the past and while it is definitly survivable, it did show me how much I actually do on the internet...

Can't take games all day, every day, I need a break. I typically fill most of my spare time reading, but given most of my material is online though sites like fanfiction.net, the loss of internet is an issue with that.

Last time I lived in this area, my family used my card to get some stuff which they then lost. I owe about $50 thanks to them. -_-

Our cable modem died on a friday morning. Rang up the hotline and they sent a new one which arrived on Tuesday. Longest weekend in recent history :/

Netgear? I've had Netgear stuff at some point, and it was shit if I remember correctly. I think it was a wireless internet adapter, I had like, 3 of them and they all failed working after a few months.

Probably. It tends to be what all the ISPs around here use for offered modems.

If they did, it wouldn't be available here, Steam hardware isn't sold here through them.

I've owned an Asus modem before (not sure about the model anymore), that worked great. They offer allot of futures, have an active forum and offer regular firmware updates. See Asus products here
Currently owning a AVM FRITZ!Box 7360, provided by my ISP and I have to give it, it is the most stable modem I've ever used - I've NEVER had any problems as to reboot the modem to regain the connection. With all other modems I've had (from the brands Asus, Alcatel, Netgear and Sitecom) I had too. See AVM products here

weird ... around here you'd march to one of the isp flagship stores, bring in your broken modem and get a new one (free of charge)
as its the damn thing required to have internet + access to other services if used ... which doesn't mean you can't throw out your own
money to acquire one yourself - since ~2013 those usually include router&wireless functionality in addition to just being modems

Since I need to go buy a new one, what brands are best to look for? I'll be checking a used goods store so not sure what I'll find, but having a short list of better brands could help. I only know Netgear myself.
Got a new modem for NZ$80, flatmate doesn't know the ****ing ISP username and password and is procrastinating on getting an answer. Yay. I'm broke and have nothing to show for it. >:(
