i like 2003 too but in my opinion:
manga > brotherhood > 2003 series
(mostly because 2003 has no conclusion and the 'movie',that has 2003's ending, isn't that good)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I like the start of 2003 better.
imo its much better paced then brotherhood and gets you alot more invested in the characters.
The scene when huges dies and his daughter is crying at the funeral "why are they burying daddy? I don't like it he has important work to do when he wakes up and he can't do it if hes burried" etc got me in the 2003 version
but yeah brotherhood has a much better end and the animation is better and all that.

i agree that's why i made one of my friends watch the first ~10 episodes of 2003 til where Hughes dies and then let her watch fma:b without continuing the 2003 series because i don't like the dad's crazy exgirlfriend villain

i'm not a fan of the 2003's ending, and really don't like the follow up movie. Brotherhood stricly follows the manga, which has a better ending. But it's good that you have watched 2003 first. this way you can invested in the characters more, because brotherhood feels more shounen (more focused on action part) and fastly skips the first part of the story in 2 3 episodes

A man of good taste I see.

FMA: B is a great anime, and it's really an excellent example of a manga/anime which doesn't overrun it's lifespan. It stuck with what it initially set out to do and it excelled at it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

*woman

While i agree i still like manga better because characters have more time to develop, and FMA:B's first couple episodes rushes a little too much imo. (and i know that's because they didn't want to bore anyone who watched FMA 2003, but it's bad for someone who directly jumps into FMA:B without checking the 2003 series)

I just don't like them. ;_; They all look similar to me. The expressions, the faces, the battles, etc. :/ If I want to watch animations, I'll watch stop motion or classic Disney cartoons or anything else really. xD

That's a very valid point, because huge amounts of anime is essentially the same, just like any form of media. I only tend to like ones that I like the style of, such as cowboy bebop and jojo's bizarre adventure

But you don't watch anime for the animations, you watch it for the story and characters ._. 😔

Which I also don't like, although I can't talk about every anime ever! :P
Tried to watch Dragonball, Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece, etc., you know, all the famous ones, but I got bored. With Dragonball especially, I got mad to the point that I couldn't understand how could anyone watch this. ;_;
And something that looks so identical to each other, just doesn't make you watch it.

don'T watch shounen then, the animes you mention are all shounen. Try seinen or slice of life or comedy

edit: To anyone who reads this, i'm not attacking on shounen genre, i personally love shounen. But they are usually way too much alike 'hero gets beat down, hero uses power of friendship etc'

Are these things full of kitty ears or "no storyline, only boobs" or "be my master" or tentacles and things like that? xD Because you better not suggest me these things. xD
As I said below:

I like animation like Mary and Max, Corpse Bride, Boxtrolls, Futurama, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, etc. They're one of their kind. ^_^

Also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBJSYEk6uD8

seinen is action but for the adult (+20) audience. Slice of life is what it means. usually no powers normal people's life.
"no storyline, only boobs" = ecchi/hentai if you were wondering
and kitty ears = Neko/nekomimi

(btw while seinen is no echhi or hentai, most of them still includes lots of boobs unfortunately)

Look, so there's no misunderstanding, I love boobs. Who doesn't? But I don't intend to watch something that it's only about boobs and has no storyline at all or it's all about masters and such. xD There are porn sites for that. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
You think you know anything similar to Kubo and the Two Strings? I could give a try to anything similar.
And, from anime games, I only like D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die. Really nice game, but also weird. xD

Permalink

Hmm something similar to Kubo, i can not think one right now but i can suggest you some series
Rurouni Kenshin is amazing, but it falls more into shounen genre which you dislike.
i will strongly suggest you this one. It's my second suggestion on this post and only 12 episodes.

Rurouni Kenshin = anime creators don't have a lot of imagination, do they?
Boku dake ga inai machi = watched the trailer, but didn't find it interesting. Even watched a "funny" scene, but didn't find it funny at all. Do you have an interesting video of it to show me? Let me warn you though that I'm probably the last man on Earth who would watch anime, so it'll be a huge accomplishment if you'd persuade me. xD They'll never reach the glory of Disney. :'(

Rurouni Kenshin = anime creators don't have a lot of imagination, do they?

i don't understand what you mean ._.

i think the trailers doesn't make the anime justice, i suggest you to watch the first episode.
i don't mind that if you don't want to watch anime at all, i mean everyone has different taste after all.

Comment has been collapsed.

Speaking of Disney, if you want to try something more Disney-esque, perhaps you should look into some Studio Ghibli works.

As far as anime in general goes, there are about as many genres of anime as there are genres of any other type of show, animated or not, so instead of trying out some random anime based on their perceived popularity, perhaps a better approach would be for you to note the genres of the stuff you do like, and then use that as a filter to possibly find some anime that would keep your interest (or to help others to give you more relevant suggestions).

Another thing to keep in mind is that animation and design styles for anime have shifted over time (just like other forms of media) so if there is a particular aesthetic you are looking for, you may want to try some older series. In my own experience, I've generally found that stuff from the 80s and early 90s look different than stuff from the late 90s to early 2000s, and then different again from stuff from the late 2000s onward.

Try Monster, Mushishi, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, Usagi Drop or if you want something more action-oriented Black Lagoon and we'll talk again 😈

1) Checked the trailer. My reaction wasn't that bad, but it still wasn't that interesting. Just imagine the same trailer with real actors - would you really wanna see that? By the way, totally irrelevant, but the Monster (2003) movie was really nice (since they have the same title). xD
2) Not like I understood much from the trailer, but it doesn't look like my kind of thing. Entities going around, the characters looking at them in awe, some personal drama I guess, etc. :P
3) Yeah, like we didn't have enough earthquake-related movies already, we needed earthquake-related anime tv series too. xD Watched the trailer, couldn't interest me less than that.
4) So, he raises a kid that isn't his, changes attitude, etc. Seen similar things a million times already. xD
5) A group of mercenaries, defying the laws of nature in order for the battles to look more badass, trying to battle the rich guys, etc. Yeah, saw this thing a million times too. :P The Blue Lagoon was much more interesting. xD
So, only Monster didn't look that bad, but I'm still not sure at all. xD

Neon Genesis Evangelion. You cannot get more lasting than that…
Ergo Proxy …unless you are Ergo Proxy.
Elfen Lied. When you want something that is truly 100% fucked up.
Revolutionary Girl Utena. When you are tired of the gore and mindfuck.
Kino No Tabi. When you really want to relax and listen to simple, good stories on human nature.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. When you want to feel smart unravelling a complex plot and still getting a curveball thrown in your face, despite seeing the damn title 26 times already.
Death Note. When you want to see more deus ex machinas needlessly prolonging the plot than in every Greek drama ever written.

I do have some hope for the 3rd season as they've managed to make a second season that was better than the first, so hopefully they at least maintain the same standard if not make this one even better. But then again it has been a while since the second season so who knows what to expect.

Lets say that my idea of how Either Lulu or C.C turns bad ... How Suzaku is now the Geass holder and how Nunally kills C.C in the end may have angered a bunch of people ...

Lets just hope im wrong , cause im flipping a table out the window if anything i said was right , especially the last part :|

Thing is there are a lot of people who really hate Suzaku so making him the protagonist would be a bit too risky.

The most discussed post about season 3 was from people hoping he finally gets brutally murdered....
So yeah ...

Hehe, it was fun to read the comments and see how much people hate both suzaku and Nina (was that her name? I'm referring to the girl who assaulted poor Table-kun).

I have hope that they are not just rebooting it for the $$$ ... but there is huge chance it wont be nowhere near the same level as the original series .

I have some general idea as to what they may do with the series , and i pray to God and Pizza Hut every night that im wrong .

Steins;Gate. To this day, I still think about it from time to time and realize some little detail I missed, and my mind is blown once again. Seriously, if you want something that's going to keep you up all night thinking about it after watching the last episode, go with Steins'Gate.

Little Busters! Refrain. Not that good, but it had a nice little twist to it which made me re-think the entire anime once I was done watching it. Also, Watch the original Little Busters! first (Refrain is a sequel).

Can't think of any other anime with a "lasting impression", other than maybe some generic, obvious stuff like Clannad + After Story, or Cory in the House.

Think about playing the VN, anime is too compressed.

Probably better if you don't mind all the reading, yeah. I only can afford to play free VNs so I've never actually played the original VN of the anime I've listed here. If you're into VNs, I'd suggest checking out Lucid9 on Steam. It's free and short, but pretty impressive. Also Katawa Shoujo, but I'm pretty sure anyone who reads VNs would know about this one. :P

Sure, I only mentioned it because there are some significant differences between Steins' VN and anime.
