Notes

This train has a Level 3 requirement as well as a small SGTools speedbump to pass. I apologize to all, especially to those below Level 3, that this will exclude. Here is the entry point to the ABC Train

I am very hopeful that most or all of the giveaways will have valid keys. If one does not, please understand that I simply do not have the ability to purchase additional keys. If necessary, you may ask for a refund of your entry ticket and I will happily refund the amount you paid for your ticket (I jest, of course!).

Should a key not work... if I have a spare key, I will replace the bad key. If I do not have a spare key, I think it will be best to mark the game as "Not received" to close out the contest. This would be better than me asking to delete the contest because marking "Not received" will not cause more work for our overburdened moderators! :)

Please do not share links either publicly or privately.

If you believe that I have provided a broken link, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! I think all links are correct, but this was a lot of work and I ran out of time to test as thoroughly as I would have like to.

About the train

Hello everyone! This is my attempt at a real train. I'll give it a little name the "ABC Train". I hope that there will be something here that everyone will be interested in.

Each cars presents a poem. I like to display pictures when I present poems because I think it helps shape the mood and "complete" the poem. Unfortunately, you will need to click "View attached image" and it will then be below instead of above the poem as I would have liked. Some of the poems are by well known authors. Many are by a, well, much less known author! :)

There might be more than one level to this train. You decide!

♥   ♥   ♥   Clues and Hints   ♥   ♥   ♥   Clues and Hints   ♥   ♥   ♥
  • Some cars might have more than one exit - especially the very first car in the train.
  • The name of the train might be a hint.
  • Zelgh is a hero!
  • In the real world, some trains are shorter than others.
  • Some puzzles might might need two pieces of information to solve.
  • Forensics can be helpful and so can crypti messages.
Update to Clues and Hints
  • There are more than one level to this train. 😁.
  • The name of the train is a hint there are three levels to the train - A, B, and C.
  • The very first car in the train (C1) has 3 exits.
  • The B Train has 27 cars.
  • The A Train has 17 cars and each A Train car be be reached either from the preceding A-car or the equivalent B-car. So car A15 can be reached either from car A14 or from car B14. Both of these have the exact same poem/puzzle.
  • Zelgh is still a hero!
  • Some of the A Train cars do need more than one piece of information to solve. Without counting, I'd say that 6 or 7 of the 17 require either two pieces of information or that you solve a little riddle with the clue that you find.
  • Cryptii could be very key to one or more puzzles.
  • Dinosaurs say that style suxx especially on github.
  • Cryptii might also help solve several different types of ciphers in the A Train which is why it is Hero approved.
  • Perhaps the first thing to be done is exam each photo forensically. That is, photo-forensics examination of each photo.
  • Bacon is not acquainted with the night and must be trying to say something else.
  • I think that some people had problems with a certain cipher named after one of the more famous Roman emperors. If you think you might be a fellow victim (Et tu, Dominicaned?), try a rot + 13 web site.

Closing comments

I apologize to all who are not fluent in English as any puzzles within could be more challenging for you. I think and hope that you are able to solve the puzzles anyway. If you think there is something I might do to help (without giving the answers, of course), let me know! :)

I have confidence that many, if not most, of these puzzles will be fairly easy for the experienced SteamGifts crowd. But if I notice that not many people are finding the contests, I will post more clues in a few days.

Thank yous

Last but not least I want to give a hearty "Thank you" to a few users who helped me immensely in the making of this train..

Andy helped with a few of the puzzles and was very willing to help me learn more of the art of hiding things in plain sight. Thank you, Andy!|

WaxWorm has been extremely helpful in fixing errors in the train and in helping me learn more about the encryptions used. Thank you, WaxWorm!

AllTracTurbo also needs a place of honor here even though most of his help occurred in a different discussion because it helped me immensely in this train. For helping me find the "hidden" Edit button and a work around for my "one-cell tables"! Thank you, AllTracTurbo!

Why thank you! It was nice of slowing down you streaking meteoric rise thru SG levels to send your wishes. :)

😄 Really though, that's a neat/interesting train. All the work you put into it is appreciated!

About the meteoric rise; I think I'm gonna slow down some. I'm having fun, but it's been a bit much and was getting a little stressful. Time to kick back, create the odd giveaway, and try to win a few. Thanks again!

I hear you loud and clear! I decided to (mostly) put up a slow, steady stream of giveaways until my supply evaporates.

Nice event. I think I found all that I am going to find. I only managed to get 8 of the last set, but I think I found all of the others. Now I am curious to know how to solve the ones I missed.

I will post solutions within a few days of after the contest ends tomorrow!

And thank you for helping me find the "hidden" Edit button and a work around for my "one-cell tables"! Perhaps they are little things, but it is the little things that make life better! :*

What a fun train! I had two wins.

Thanks for your generosity and all the effort you put into this puzzle train!

Hey, Dom, if it bothers you for one person to win two carts of your triple train, I won't squawk if you ask for a new winner for the title that you haven't yet sent the key for.

There were many cars that had very few entrants. With 71 cars, it was inevitable to have multiple winners. In fact, someone had 4 wins! So no problem at all, enjoy your games! And I am glad you enjoyed the train!

What I am very curious about is how you knew you had to wins before I had sent them? Even after a year here, I am still very new to SG's inner workings. Do the system let you know that you have a win even before I send the key? I had thought that it did not?

it actually does and you get a red 1 at the trophy sign, if the red 1 starts blinking, the key was revealed to you

Right.
What's not clear to me is what if the Giver wants a different winner. Would I see a non-flashing "1" at first but later nothing?

Anyway, thanks again!

yep, the red will constantly lighten and then just vanish

Ah, thanks.
Better to say "would constantly be lit" (passive). In English "lighten" is generally to reduce the weight of something, or reduce pressure.
