Bioshock 2 is better than Bioshock 1. There. I said it.
And yes, Minerva's Den dlc is completely worth it. Hell, Minerva's Den is better than Bioshock 1 and Bioshock Infinite.

I want to say I liked 2 more than 1. But I just don't know. I think one thing that bugged me about 2 is that a lot of it felt like filler. though Bioshock 1 did the same shit. So can't knock it for that.
If someone did ask me I'd say I think I maybe liked 2 more. The ending is what kinda did it for me I think.
And really? :o It's 5 dollars.(I think.? I don't know MS pricing.) So I wasn't sure since 5 dollars can also nab me a game on sale lol.

please, do tell in what universe does Bioshock 1 surpass Bioshock 2 in terms of gameplay. And B1 story got awful after the plot twist.

I still can't believe that we're actually having this conversation. There was nothing I liked about the Bioshock 2 story. It was strange and uneventful by comparison to Bioshock 1 which although you didn't like the plot twist, it was significant and very surprising. I love games that make you think it's the end of the game but in actual fact, it's no where near.
I mostly enjoyed Bioshock 1 more because it had a beginning, a middle, and an end. Start on the surface thinking you're just a plane crash survivor, find Rapture, learn about Rapture, be deceived, learn who you really are. Bioshock 2 felt like an expansion pack in terms of story. I think the year was like 1972 or something? Like he's been dormant for so long and yet Rapture looks the same with the exception of Sofia Lamb. Delta's creepy bond with this little sister was another thing that made me feel awkward rather than interested.
I was so hyped to fight the Big Sisters but it turns out they were just tank spider splicers with nothing interesting to offer. Ultimately, Bioshock 2 recycled a lot of what was already showcased in Bioshock 1, so it wasn't as spectacular or original for me. I still don't like the whole one hand weapon and one hand plasmid mechanic. It just looked tacky and made me laugh when I imagined a big daddy running around like that. Don't even get me started on the tacked on multiplayer which ruined what little interest I had left in the game.

yeah, but somehow that last boss battle in B1 makes sense? The way he just looks like and acts like a freaking Hulk on steroids that gets teleported to a frankenstein vita-chamber on death with 5 lives?
The only reason vita-chambers were in the game was for playability. It was lazy to implement a boss-fight that respawned like it was some kind of deathmatch.
The story in B2 was more humane, it allowed you to develop a more personal relationship with the harvester girls, and allowed you to see the direct influence your actions had on the development and molding of your "personal" girl.

I didn't like the final boss at all. But luckily enough the rest of the game was so enjoyable for me, so much suspense, so many questions, and in my opinion, a more important main character. I honestly didn't like the whole little sister story in Bioshock 2, I found it creepy in a bad way :S Sofia Lamb was a decent villain, but Frank Fontaine was more deceptive, and that really made things interesting.

Yeah. Though it was a sequel so better controls makes sense.
One thing I disliked was that I couldn't use my gamepad for the game. ;_;
(There is a fanpatch for gamepad but was too lazy to install.)

Minerva's Den is one of the few pieces of DLC actually worth buying for any game.
Comment has been collapsed.
You can just purchase it from the game menu (it links straight to LIve). You can eitehr use credit card or paypal depending on what you link to your Live account. MSP shpuld also be an option.
If you already have the GFWL client installed you should also be able to buy it from there or on live.xbox.com whoch iwll provide you a key to redeem in gmae

I don't suppose they ever do sales? xD
Will be weird buying 5$ DLC when I bought the game for 5$ lol. :p

The main reason Is et up a steam account was for cheaper gfwl games. Most of them have their content vilable through steam but for the few that don't your pretty much stuck paying full price.

Yup, my PayPal account is stored on my Live account and gets used far too often

The Steam page already shows them - http://store.steampowered.com/app/8850/

Seemed I beat the game at the wrong time.... lol. Shame I can't link the Windows Live thing with steam. :/
I wonder if it will get trading cards. :o

Oh my. :o
Is there an ETA on when?
I know a few months ago Bioshock 2 ultimate for PC was announced with all DLC or something.
Maybe they will release the DLC and have it half off or something >.>
Gahhh can't play Infinite w/o this game done! lol
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes you can, you really can. The link between the 2 is hardly existent. It's like playing Deus Ex: HR without having played Deus Ex, etc.
The stories don't depend on each other, and while you would get the most out of it by playing them both; Minerva's Den is not going to impact your Bioshock: Infinite experience at all.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh I mean like I don't want to start the next game until I finish this one completely to move on. :p

The main reason I didn't enjoy Bioshock 2 as much as the first one was probably just because the atmosphere just didn't do as much for me. Considering you are in the same place as the first one Rapture just doesn't seem as creepy and new when you have already beaten another game in it. That's my two cents anyways, I still really enjoyed Bioshock 2.
Comment has been collapsed.
I liked the sequel more than the original (in terms of gameplay) but although I also loved the story I have to say that it couldn't beat the moment with Andrew Ryan, that was just incredible.
I recommend you watch all the endings for Bioshock 2, they are quite different but also really sad. I don't think there's a fully happy ending :/
Comment has been collapsed.
I never backtracked in Bioshock 1. I made sure to always get all the little sisters in the area before leaving.
Though I can understand how it can be annoying. (No idea why they left that out.)

I've discussed this in a thread before, and someone agreed with me, but for the life of me I can't remember who it was. I think Bioshock 2 was better than Bioshock 1 by heaps, and is still one of, if not my favourite game of all time — there was just a lot more emotional involvement for me. There was a feeling like you were fighting for something greater than just survival of yourself. The fate of Alex the great was also the hardest moral choice I had ever made in a game — both choices seemed equally justified.
What impacted me most was the endings, though, which were a lot more than the more generic endings of the first Bioshock. While the good ending has a nice closure, I feel the neutral end where you sacrifice yourself evoked the strongest feeling, and Eleanor's last line as the screen faded to black was a nice touch. Yet the most powerful was the scene to the surface — the event was the culmination of all the choices you had made; everything you had "taught" Eleanor to do, and to feel. Did she know mercy? — Or did she only understand wrath?
Comment has been collapsed.
I too think the best ending, when you sacrifice yourself so you don't go in her mind and get "saved." It's the only ending where Delta didn't get sucked into her mind. I got the BEST ending with the little girls and I just still found it odd that Delta was sucked into her mind to be her conscience.
And the mercy on lamb was a great scene indeed.
I still don't understand why people said Bioshock 2 had a bad ending compared to Bioshock 1. It confuses me greatly.
Comment has been collapsed.
If you are like 12 the endings where good, if not they are quite generic, not much depth. The first bioshock didn´t have great endings neither.
I think ioshock 2 did nothing new appart from some changes in the combat which is still the weak part of the series. The characters in 2 where less interesting than the first one. I hated Lamb, couldn´t be more anoying and is not an interesting character.
Conclusion: More of the same with less interesting characters.

I remember really liking the gameplay and plasmid improvements in Bioshock2, but I can't really remember any of the plot or settings :/
I guess Bioshock1 left more of an impact on me as I can remember all the main characters, plot twists, areas etc.
That said, I liked them both and should really go back and replay Bioshock2 sometime.
Comment has been collapsed.
There weren't too many interesting people in Bio1? :o
Who? I can only think of 3. lol And they were in Bio2 as well.
Comment has been collapsed.
Andrew Ryan? The driving force behind the city and the main antagonist throughout the first half of the game until the excellent twist? I don't think I'll ever forget this scene.
Atlas/Fontaine. Your friend turned villain. The whole "would you kindly" deal was not only a great suprise but also a cool statement on linear videogame narratives.
Sander Cohen was an awesome character, I don't think I'll ever forget him or Fort Frolic. I love his writing, and his "art" along with his mission to complete his masterpiece were very memorable.
I know it's been a while since I played either, but I can remember these 3 (among others) instantly when I think of Bioshock. For Bio2, I can remember Tenenbaum near the start, but I mainly remember her from Bioshock1 anyways. Off the top of my head, I can't remember anyone else from Bio2 and would have to go look up the story to jog my memory. As I said, Bio1 left a much bigger impact on me as I remember it much more clearly.

The problem is that, after the twist, Bioshock 1's plot and level design goes straight to mediocrity town.
Comment has been collapsed.
Now that you mention it, besides the "randomly changing plasmids" part, the "become a big daddy", and the final boss, I don't recall much after the twist.
All the best levels are before the twist for sure.
However, I still can't remember much of anything in Bio2. I remember enjoying it, fighting Big Sisters and protecting Little Sisters, but that's about it. It just didn't "stick" with me like the first game did. I should play it again sometime.

Both Bioshock's had fairly weak endings, but in my opinion it was a very good game. I didn't even know people hated it. :o

The constantly respawning enemies just annoyed me in BS1. It stopped me from having fun. Maybe I'm odd like that? Never got into BS2

There weren't too many respawning enemies in 1. You woulda hated 2. lol

bioshock 2..
I must admit that until almost half of the game, I struggle quite a bit to get myself into it: it was not that different from the first (really liked that) and I wasn't finding the story that interesting; even going harvesting adam with little sisters was interesting in the beginning, but became repetitive in short time.. and then, I don't know why, the game caught me :D
I still remember the little sister part.. it was so sad and disturbing at the same time.. and the ending, the 'neutral' one: well, I think a dropped a tear when I saw it :)
well, what can I say, I loved them both
and I'll buy Infinite as soon as I see a good offer :D
ps: minerva's den is still 'more of the same' but I think it's worth the price; be sure to complete 100% protector's trial (it's free) cause you'll get a bonus plasmid (or it was a tonic? can't remember for sure) for minerva's den.. and there, you can see this :D

I'm surprised you and Jonex still have the ability to be trophy whores when so many steam games and all dem PSN+ games(Know Skanda has it, idk but you Jonex.)
After all the PSN+ games and all the steam games my trophy whore habit went away lol. :p
Comment has been collapsed.
I haven't properly been on my PS3 in almost 2 years now lol. I left my trophy whoring behind when I moved abroad and only had access to my laptop. And thus my love for Steam was reignited. I could never go back to Playstation after seeing how much better PC gaming is in terms of quality and cost. Plus I just don't have the time to collect trophies anymore :/

Bioshock 2 was a better experience overall. Perhaps the biggest reason is that Bioshock 1 was so overhyped that I excepted something mind blowing instead of a predictable story, average gameplay and poor character design. Only thing that didn't disappoint me was the atmosphere of the Rapture.
Comment has been collapsed.
How exactly was the mid-game twist in any way predictable? Unless someone spoiled you before you played, that was one of gaming's big surprises at the time.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, if you listened to every single audio-diary until that moment, it was a bit predictable, yes :)
Comment has been collapsed.
No one spoiled it, I just had a very strong feeling what's going to happen. Haven't you ever watched a movie and knew (guessed) the major plot twist before it happened?
Comment has been collapsed.
I enjoyed both games, but Bioshock 1 was better for me. The second part is a mere expansion to the story of Bioshock 1.
Bioshock 1 was stronger in terms of plot, characters and creepiness. It was much more hardcore - you had to actually plan each step. Even the way each new type of mutants was presented - it was better. You could easily get lost while trying to find your way through each level.
The second part was easier, more casual in terms of both gameplay (those hacking minigames and simplified leveling system) and in terms of the whole environment (much more linear and simple design of levels).
Comment has been collapsed.
Hardcore? After the first 3/4 hours every single enemy is piss-easy to beat. In terms of the design of the levels, its not really that great either, System Shock 2 was so much better.
Comment has been collapsed.
Each fight in Bioshock 1 (normal difficulty) was very exhausting. Like the enemies didn't want to give in. Maybe the whole atmosphere of the game was adding to this feeling, donno. Still, each time I had to fight, I had to fight for each step I make.
Bioshock 2 was easier due to having plazmids/weapons in both hands at once, while in B1 you needed to switch between weapons and plazmids. In B1, plazmids did seem to be more effective and dangerous though. In B2 you had your Daddy's big heavy drill.
BTW, after reading reviews about too casual normal and hard difficulties of Bioshock Infinite, I immediately decided to beat it in 1999 mode. Most fights were still pretty easy for me but I could feel that the game is fighting back. Maybe it's because Elizabeth was inspiring me...
Comment has been collapsed.
I completed Bioshock 1 on the hardest difficulty( the PS3 exclusive difficulty) without using any Vita Chambers. The first three hours were tough, the rest of them were a breeze, and incredibly easy. Big Sister encounters were way more fun and challenging than Big Daddys encounters (you can set up some traps and kill them in like 15 seconds)
Plasmids were way more interesting in B2 with the inclusion of plasmid traps.

Honestly I think it simply came down to it not being scary. I meean, Bioshock 1 had you on your toes the entire time. In Bioshock 2, I might have felt a bit of fear once throughout the entire game, considering you are a big daddy. The strange thing is, Infinite wasn't scary either, and there was no uproar about that. (Not a spoiler). Let me know if you guys agree, that's my theory anyway :P
Comment has been collapsed.
Everyone says Bioshock 2 wasn't as scary but I don't agree.
Maybe everyone was just use to the atmosphere from the first game.
Spider splicers were silly in Bio2 though.
Comment has been collapsed.
The thing is that Bioshock 1 & 2 are about this city gone to hell. The city is now infested with these splicers.
Im pretty sure this isnt a spoiler if youve seen the trailers (Dont talk about the plot at all) but be warned?
On Infinite youre fighting other rational humans. (Like in a war) so theres no "Something terrible happened here" atmosphere there, Just a "War" atmosphere.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, that definitely is one of the biggest reasons, but still, the fact that it ISN'T scary, I was expecting more people to complain about it. I guess it just had every other element the original Bioshocks did, and so people appeased :P
Comment has been collapsed.
I enjoyed Bioshock 2 as well, but I think people got mad at it because it was basically a copy of the first game. It barely introduced anything new, and didn't have the same atmosphere as the first one.
Still liked it a great deal, though.
Comment has been collapsed.
I enjoyed all of them.
But to me is:
Infinite>Bio 1>Bio 2
All of them with a 10/10, Infinite just really got into my skin.

Spoilers for Bioshock 2 (And Bioshock 1 will be in this thread most likely.) You have been warned.
(Only discuss Bioshock 2 here please, though discussion of Bioshock 1 is fine. Just no Infinite talk please. Tankz.)
So like a day ago I finally beat Bioshock 2. And I thought it was a great game honestly just as good as Bioshock 1. Hell, I thought the ending to Bioshock 2 was better than Bioshock 1. (It was sad well actually I got the good ending but I saw the other endings and they were sad.)
So my question is why did people hate Bioshock 2 so much? I know a lot of people were disappointed when it came out and I recall everyone hating the ending as well.(Personally I hated Bioshock 1's ending because it was like 30 seconds long.)
Was it just nostalgia? Or is there a real reason that I missed?
The only thing I disliked about Bioshock 2 was the lack of a final boss. That kinda sucked to me...
Last thing I wanted to ask. Is any of the DLC worth playing?
I was interested in BioShock 2: Minerva's Den DLC but it's on Window's Live to buy it so I'm not sure about it... I'm just curious if the side story is worth my time or not. (And if it's worth my money, and buying it on Window's Live...)
