I remember playing it a long time ago on the old Playstation 2, I understood the control setup back then. It was still fun despite the controls.

Finally got to try it on the PC, they have no way to change how the control works on it. I can live with not being able to run while you aim not a huge deal at all and ads a layer of difficulty to it that is reasonable, I just want the ability to mouse look and have my guy turn. Lets face it, if I am rotating my camera to the right, I kinda want my guy to turn with it.

Sucks when I have something on my screen and when I go to aim, I still have to rotate my guy to match the camera because he still aims the direction he is facing regardless of the direction the camera is facing. This is just added difficulty for the sake of difficultly. I understand keeping the clunky controls as the default for the sake of the original, but at least give us the option for something better.

Any mods they have for this? I am looking and can't find anything on it.

I am trying it, it

"Create Process failed with error 2: Can't find the file specified"

And I have tried it in the "Resident Evil 4" directory as well as the "Bio4" and "Bin32" directors all with the same error.

Yes, you would think they would have given you a more modern and useful control option after all the years on this game.

Will try the link, I remember coming across it but half the comments said it didn't work. Trying now.

To be fair, you can't run while aiming in any of the console versions, so that's intentional. Not sure about the camera issues since I've never played it on PC.

But if you think RE4 has clunky controls, do yourself a favor and never play any of the previous games in the series.

I played them on the old play station and enjoyed them and the control style made since on the old pre-rendered games.

But since it has went 3D, they should have given the controls a little more freedom to reflect that.

I have no issues with having to stop to shoot, my issue is that you can't mouse look like you would think they would give you the option to after all this time. The mouse controls the camera and nothing else unless you are actually aiming.

Me and many others would prefer the option for a more modern control style that isn't so clunky for such a game.

I played it on PlayStation at a rental store when I was still able to use a controller properly, then on PC later. PC felt a lot more comfortable with the XCV button configuration.
Well, for RE1 and RE2. In RE3, the dodging was rather difficult with a keyboard.

I've only played the early games (not any of the remakes) on consoles. Not really a fan of the "human tank" setup but I found RE4 pretty tolerable.

RE4 was tolerable for the story and the level design. Not the stupid store and money grinding. Still, it was a so-so. Good game with dumb things forced into it.
I cannot find any saving grace in RE5/6. Not even the writing. (I never liked Wesker as an antagonist to begin with, the series didn't need a criminal mastermind Bond villain reject to be good.)
Have high hopes for Revelations though. Too many old-school RE fans recommend it to not try it.
Once I have upgraded my 5-yo rig. In 2017…

Revelations is decent, but it still suffers from post-RE4 syndrome.
The whole game is switches between 2 play-style: slow-burn survival horror and mindless shoot-em-up horde sections.
Revelations 2 managed to balance it out better.

That sucks, I loved beating the game on the PlayStation 2 years ago. Was kinda happy thinking I was finally going to get another go at it with a proper controller style finally.

Hopefully they come out with an updated mouse look mod later.

If you can, play it with a controller. There are mods to replace the in-game buttons with the xbox360 ones, I used that to play it.

Don't have an Xbox360 or newer playstation controller.

I never bought any of the newer systems and much prefer mouse and keyboard for most games except racing and street fighter style games.

Oh well, question, how does the controls on Resident Evil 5 look?

Haven't played RE5 yet, got it today, but I'll agree with you that RE4 PC controls are just terrible u.u

Just tried Resident Evil 5.

The good news, it has solid controls and my PC gets between 115 and 300 FPS on the benchmarks at 1080p.

The bad news, it gets me motion sick......

lol, would be great if I still had the old PS2 stuff. Gave it away about 4 years ago when I left for the Army because I hadn't used them in years.

All later REs ported to PC have better controls. RE4 was left as it is, terrible. Not Dark Souls terrible, but near there.
On the negative side, RE5/6 are quite bad compared to RE4 if you want a survival horror/Resident Evil game, not just a generic no-name zombie TPS.

A PC player having to use a controller to play a first or third person shooter is tantamount to sacrilege.

Not that we don't have one, because any gamer worth their salt should, but this is not the type of game that it is ideal to use on.

I won't deny that, this game was ported to PC without PC in mind... it doesn't even have an "EXIT" button in the pause menu, you have to die to exit to the main menu and then exit the game.
RE1 port (the original) had better controls than this one

They are not "PC controls". They are mouse and keyboard controls for a game that was never intended to be played that way. PC controls are what you want them to be, that's the beauty of it!

Any way to use the controls of the old PC version ?

Well, Resident Evil 4 is a great game with terrible controls. Then I get to resident evil 5 which has decent controls but lacks to feel of the old games which honestly takes away from the entertainment of it. And to be honest, I don't like having to work with partners in most of my games which kinda bugs me with 5.

No, I have not. I am reading up that it keeps breaking the camera according to the comments. But will give it a shot.

Sucks ditching a good game due to poor controls.
