I remember watching an episode where Rachel Riley talked about her experience visiting Russia with her husband. She said that she was smiling all the time so their Russian friends thought that she was crazy (or nuthead, I can't recall the exact wording) because Russians don't smile without reasons. Now I want to use that bit of the show to demonstrate the difference in culture between countries to my class, but I couldn't remember which episode. Can someone help me on that?

on the gameshow earlier this afternoon, Rachel Riley said...
“People say about Russians not being warm and friendly but as soon as you start talking to them,” she tailed off, before adding: “It’s just the smiling, they don’t smile. They say if you smile for no reason you’re a fool.”

Oh, I thought it was on 0OO10CDC, because I hardly watch the regular Countdown, ever. Thank you so much!

You should also find out if vodka is an acceptable reason to smile there.

Here smiling is still acceptable but laughing at nothing or otherwise being loud in public for no reason means that you're either a kid, drunk or crazy.

How is that show related to cats BTW?

Oh, it is a crossover of 2 different shows on British TV, one named Countdown (a quiz show), and one named 8 Out Of 10 Cats (a comedy commentary show about statistics), hence the name..

I saw the title and was like "I know that acronym..." but it took me a while to place it.

I watch it on YouTube, but not regularly. Haven't seen one in a few months...but I do love that show :-)
