Question about some game

Soo guys i work in a hypermarket and yesterday i saw a CD with Darksiders 2 with cd key working with steam for a funny price so i bought it. The question is: is 1st game related with 2nd, should i play 1st one 1st to get the story if its related or it doesn't matters?

I'd play them chronologically, because they make a LOT of references in Darksiders 2 (currently playing), that you may not understand if you didn't play the first one.

1st one was more fun but you can skip it, not a story driven game imo... you can fill yourself about the plot here
