not literally but yeah, my country colombia is in pretty much the heat, after all th farmers decided to stop working because santos was giving everything away almost for free with almost no benefits to them, the whole country has been in a mess, then alot of college students and other people started riots in bogota (capital city) which led a lot of violence, apparently the police took this as an opportunity to abuse their powers, bogota is of fire, people are being held against their will and attacked on sight, stolen from their belongings its really a lot of chaos out there.

here is a video of what is going on in here, police brutality at its finest

news report on the subject

confession of a college student who got attacked by the police for triying to help a minor being held for no reason

this is all in spanish, but most of the stuff is shown, not told

So what if hes from Syria or Egypt and the Farmers protest in your country seem very trivial to him? Would you respect his opinion or do you just post here to seek attention and affirmation of how shitty your situation is? There's bigger things going on in the world today im afraid, things that overshadow your local problem.

Philippines. You realise that people can care about more than one thing at once, right? Just because you're worrying about the situation in Syria doesn't mean you can't worry if the weather will be good for your day out.

How did my country relate to any to Syria, I'm more worried of this country's corruption...

Before I could care less about other countries, I should try to correct my own country first...

I'm not nationalistic in any way but these politicians are just plain gorillas...

I don't tend to meddle in other country's affairs is what I mean, yet what do you think I'm not

nice enough of a guys to show sympathy? This is the Internet, to the others who bash on me what would you really expect...

I said "meh" because of the brutality and not of ignorance...

Define "contributing"? To me it just seems you have to agree with the OP on this topic or GTFO. Being indifferent is a bannable offense? Time to suspend the crap out this forum then for every Meh.

You don't have to agree. Stop trying to be an idiot, you're succeeding too well at it. There can be discussion about it, whether you agree or not, but being a dick about things like this is uncalled for. I don't see why people like you insist on making those stupid comparisons. "Oh, I see, agree or GTFO. BAN ALL THE MEHS." Context, genius.

Exactly. Context. In the context of things, "the bigger picture", or even on a very small scale the OP's problem might not matter to someone at all. Shouldn't they be able to say that as well? "I don't care", although in more popular terms, is forbidden now?

How does Steamgifts select their staff exactly? You call me an idiot, stupid, and speak in a condecending tone. Always a nice way for a supportmember to keep a levelheaded discussion going. You might have the power, but try to use it wisely and not spoil it on your delusions of grandeur.

Not quite. If those who are supposed to guarantee the safety of the citizens are likely to attack them (on sight, that's serious business wtf!) regardless, they're not only not encouraged to help, but also discouraged from doing so. Unless some citizens organise themselves in some sort of group able to stand against police, they can't do much, and if they do organise it's likely to degenerate.
That is, unless he is making the thing look bigger than it is, but we have no element to prove it while there's some evidence of him being right. It might not be heroic but honestly I can't blame him.

It always amazes me when I read about things like this on the Internet. I don't know whether it is because Colombia is a non-English speaking country or something else, but things like this rarely get reported on our news (in Britain). I didn't say never, just rarely. And yes, I have heard about Syria, but really there is no comparison. Syria is a civil war in a region where we have a vested interest/are currently operating/liberating/occupying. Colombia is Latin America. We seem to turn a blind eye to Latin America (remember Pinochet?) especially in matters of government corruption.

Yeah, we hear about this, but like i said unless we have a stake in it, it rarely gets a mention. Just like the recent earthquake in China. Barely a mention in the UK press. I'd rather hear about what's going on around the world than all the celebrity-centric "news" we have foisted upon us.

On the other hand I hope you and your loved ones make it through it all right, tribulation always is hard. I guess keep your head low and if you see a big crowd outside of a business or something wait for it to disperse (so you don't get caught in a riot or something and get attacked by authority or w/e). I didn't bother to read the article ( don't know spanish, too lazy to google translate). Good Luck.

Comment has been collapsed.

It's third world for Latin America though, with Chile/Argentina being first world and Brazil/Uruguay being second/middle. The thing about the modern world though is that even in "third world" countries, there are some very rich and successful areas and many people within said countries are actually very well off. A great example is India, where there are millions of people richer than most Americans, but at the same time there are 500m people in destitute poverty living on scraps.

The fact that you took the time to tell others about the situation in Colombia is good. It shows you care and that you want to do something about it, and that means you have a good heart. Unfortunately, there are many countries in a similar situation, right now, and that distracts people from focusing on any one country. Also, the media is careful to keep quiet about a lot of stuff, so many people remain unaware of what is going on.

Here are some things you want to remember:

1) The quality of a person's life is measured by what is attempted and accomplished, not by its length or possessions acquired.
2) There is no veil between the supplications of the oppressed and God.
3) These kinds of trials and tribulations will eventually come to every nation. Just do your best to do the right thing.

No, earthquake activity. Although it's been about a century since the last bad one, so it's not an overwhelmingly terrifying threat.

Japan is actually kinda nuts, as the entire country lies on fault lines and is one of the most densely populated places on Earth.

Not sure if you're from california, but wildfires don't happen everywhere - it hasn't happened in my area - although now and then a major city might get ravaged (like Malibu. But people want to live there for the ocean view). So California isn't susceptible to fires everywhere. Wildfires are even necessary in order for certain forests to sprout new trees - the heat from the fires opens the seeds up.

The good thing about California is that no matter the hot day, the night ends cool. I suppose the upper extreme may get a bit baking in the summertime, but it never gets literally freezing cold, which can be a strong point for many people.
