Hi

Does it make any difference if i choose Key on the HB site and make the giveaway with that or click Gift to a friend?

Cheers

Nope. Same thing, but if you use a gift link then you can tell once it's been used so they can't lie about it.

But it's easier for you to be believed if it's a gift link rather than a key. And Humble support can also revoke a redeemed key from Steam and yank a claimed gift right out of an account. People do not want to play the lying game with Humble gift links, because they can also get their Humble account banned.

How does the gift link work?

Do i just message it to them when they win?

Also, have notices in HB that i can still download games that i have gifted with a key (not that i am interested in doing so) take it they would not work anyway. Can i delete them from my HB account?

Some game come with steam only so there is only a key but some come with steam and DRM free, so you have a key but you can still download them in you HB acount. I don't think downloading them do any trouble to the key owner. I don't know if you can delete the game tho

Just wanted to add that any DRM-free downloads do not transfer when giving a gift link and stay attached to the original account (or unclaimed bundle page). If Humble was concerned about it being that way then it wouldn't be, so I wouldn't worry about it.

You can instert the gift link in the giveaway as a "key", and when you send it, the winner gets the link. ANd yes, links from HB are preferred in trades and are also better in giveaways, as they can be tracked if they were redeemed or not.

Thanks. Was wondering about this and it isn't clearly listed in the FAQ

Consider it one of the things you learn while using the site. It is not a frequent question enough to warrant a place in the FAQ.

And as well because in the future you don't have to worry about don't knowing if you used a key or not...

I would like to add something really interesting that someone told me when i asked the same question.
If there is a trouble, and you need to "ban" this key and ask for an other one, it's easier with a gift link, because the ToS of Humble Bundle don't allow you to gift directly keys actually.
