Activating an non-game app in Steam

Weeks ago, there was a thread about the new steam apps feature. I wondered if I could activate my old 3Dmark Vantage serial (I got it years ago with my evga gtx260), and someone asked me to post the results.

I forgot about it until now, when I found it by chance in a backup dvd.
