Seeing as there was a deal for Witcher 2 so some people got it. I found it important to remind to people that they can use the CD Key to activate another copy of Witcher 2 on GOG here using a CD key you get with the purchase from any retailer , you can also activate a Witcher 1 there as well.

And tell me all about how all people know or remember about this old news.

I knew this applied to the second game but not the first. I just got the first from the Steam sale as I have the 2nd on the 360 at the moment.

So bonus points from me at least Necro.

I can't just view my CD key, I guess it's a steam-side bug (Requesting Key...). So the alternatives are a go for me.

Also knowing them does not hurt.

I think the game needs to be installed (in hte case it is not) to see the key. At least that's what happened to me.

To view it in registry; yeah. To view it using Steam client; no.

I'm prety sure I needed to install The Witcher to view the CD key with right click on Steam client.
Can't do so with the game uninstalled right now.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You don't need to show it via right click, even if you didn't install it, when you click from the library, there's a menu at right side. (store page etc.). There is a CD key section there.

That does not work with Witcher 1 though. I get a key, but it doesn't work with the gog.com site.

You don't understand the point of it because it's old news? look at some of the posts above you? Or you want to tell me they don't deserve to know about it because it's old news?

"bandwagon on how smart they are" No, it's a bandwagon of be baffled at something stupid someone said.

It is old news, no one denied that. People also do understand.

The point, however, is that some people don't know - For example I only knew that this applied to the second game not both.

Why to activate on GOG if you have the games on steam? I don't get why people praise GOG, it's crap, old overpriced games.

You like DRM too much, and all the games you've ever known are on steam right? Hah!

"overpriced"

Just because Steam does ultra sales it doesnt means that a game that costs more than 10$ is overpriced, pretty fair for some titles i must say.

You know they have been doing new releases for quite some time, right? And having a DRM-free alternative available can only be considered a good thing, no matter how you look at it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well there are extra content you can hand pick and download unlike in steam where you have to download the whole package + why not get them for free as a backup just in case you lose access to steam or something? It takes a minute to copy the keys.

And here, ladies and gentleman, we have a perfect specimen of a breed of what is known as an "early 2000s child", safe and protected in its natural habitat, insulting things it doesn't understand on the internet. It is a sad and lonely creature, pitied by the others in its tribe for not knowing the great things in life that it could so easily find by attempting something beyond the newest flashing light show it can find.

Crap: You mean the dozens and dozens of PC classics that still hold well to this day?
Old: "It's old so it sucks wah wah!"
Overpriced: GoG has sales just like Steam does. Like, oh, say, right now.

Wake me up when I can get a Steam key for my GoG purchase... (I'd never thought I'd say I preferred DRM over free, but here you go - I do, because Steam is more convenient than the GoG downloader.)

Its old news...

Its Witcher 1/2 Backup, Witcher backup to was avaible when Wither 1 got DRM Free patch.
Later to be relesed addons to Witcher 1 and W1 was renamed to Enchaced Edition.
Later we can see Witcher 2 DRM Free, and 3 days later all can reedem GOG.com free backup version of W2

Propably in ferature also we can see here Witcher 3 backup.

GOG.com = CD PROJEKT
Witche game series = CD PROJEKT RED

RED is Dev. studio of CD PRJEKT.

Same. I'll almost always pick non-Steam over Steam, but getting both is the best. I understand them not wanting to promote a competitor... however, it would be nice if they changed their minds and gave complimentary Steam codes for their games.

I had that same problem when I picked up a retail copy of Witcher 1 from that Newegg deal a while back. There's a form on the redeem page for sending them a picture to prove that you own the copy and they'll send you a redeemable GOG key. Worked for me.
