How many active people are there in the discussions?
Time zone - Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_zone
The earth is round.
This is obvious, but are there many humans in the area where Hawaii and Guam will be in the sun when the timeline is noon?
I think not many.
Proof that space-time is twisted for human convenience🔎🖼joke...However, matters not considered based on UTC+-0 are often subject to error.🌏🕛⌛🔨

maybe sometimes people are just shy and don't want to interact with someone else as they don't know whether it would lead to good good things or like feeling a bit icky and sorta more unpleasant than before. thus it's always safer for them(I'm gonna briefly share a secret tho: when I say people I mean myself as I can't really talk for other guys) to just watch from a distance and hope the people that they want to thank or virtually hug get the sentiment of appreciation through some sorta clairvoyance or some such thingy ig added-edit: while other times things get wacky they act without thinking much and just like blab a lot 🤷

Unpleasant online exchanges are always a small risk but there are a small price to pay for connecting with others about shared interests.
You should not let that deter you from taking a chance on people. It's more rewarding than it is unpleasant, I promise.

yeah logically what u say is completely right, ig it's just that to me the probability of icky exchanges sorta overshadows the chances of cool and genuine interactions;idk perhaps I should take this leap of faith (lower the intensity of the word tho lol) more often as u suggest and I might find all those goody rewards ^_____^
p.s. I might or not hold u to that promise tho 😶🌫️

I know what you mean, trust me. I was a shy kid and that was before the internet turned into One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Crazytown.
You don't have to do anything that makes you anxious, but you should have more faith in yourself, if not others. At least enough to believe you can have meaningful or just fun exchanges with people online.
The worst that can happen is just an unpleasant moment. You don't have to see them at work or at school every day. They're strangers.
The best that can happen: you get out of your shell little by little and you make connections.

ig I already did, and I got pretty cool vibes from them. I shall (try) continue to do so in the future too 🤗

I assume there's at least a few thousand people visiting the site daily, and many probably check the discussions occasionally. But the actually active user, or regulars if you will, that go ahead and interact with other people are probably a few hundreds at best. There's also days when apparently nobody feels like saying anything and we just stare at each other waiting for someone else to make the first move and start talking, like an entire town of introverts.

I think a lot of the lack of consistent discussion comes down to a couple things:
Also, there's definitely plenty of people that don't give back to the community. Or at least not with regularity.
Those types aren't too keen on conversation here, I think.

Autojoiners don't join in with discussions, which reduce the "active" users amount by -40%.
From the rest, 60%, use a lot ESGST to join GAs with one click and don't care for something else. Hard to say XX% but i wildly assume that are again 40%.
So 20% leftover as "really active", in a way that could be noticeable (besides the autojoiners with their integrated and activated thanks script) -but of course not all will write something, a part will "only" read-.
This, small, rest i assume as only a few hundred real users that are willing to participate in discussions. Split in timezones and you have sometimes more and sometimes nearly none around.
The number of active ones drops by each month (and more autojoiners and multiaccounts join it, so the gap get bigger) because cg give a fuck for the site and the needed stuff like autojoiner checks SERVER SIDED DONE. As long as his earnings are ok, he don't do work and if his earnings aren't ok, he do only work to fix this (so a lose:lose situation -sad laughing-).
And on top come bullshit suspensions for black sheep hunters of my group and myself.
As example for SPAM, after posting in GA comments a link to a discussion with the recommendation to check their winners with sgtools and think about a min. level restriction.
The great laugh at it is, in a GA with dozens of autojoiner spamming their "thanks" messages and none of them recieved a SPAM suspension.
None of the ~350 Autojoiners that a other member and i reported, over 3 months, got a SPAM suspension. And only 90 got a suspension for autojoining, mostly a few days -after hundreds of hours that we invested in evidence collecting...-.
I got one for "Inappropriate Behavior" (maybe to fill the streak 3 thing for the same suspension, to make it a perma one), for the same type of comments, but i don't posted a link, i posted a full comment with such infos. My suspension reason had stuff like the sentence "gifters don't like such comments", in a GA where the gifter thanked me for my advice :-D (it's so stupid/laughable...).
I done around 30 messages/month such advice comments, so a lower amount as the autojoiners with activated thanks script do in one day, and wrote in average around 300 other comments/month in the discussions. So in short, i were a very active user (as cg like it).
Since this bullshit suspension, only based on one mod that don't like me and use fake reasons because want to kick me (I assume this happen sooner or later [i would go with sooner^^]), I thought about my spend lifetime (thousands of hours) and what i want to get back for it and decided to get treated worse as the cheaters isn't what i want in exchange for it.
So i reduced my involment in the discussions down to around 60 comments/month.
I don't care anymore for stuff from randoms that i don't know. Like puzzles, if someone had a car accident, got a degree etc. etc. etc..
If i know the one from the past, in a positive way, i react, sometimes (thats the reason for the 60 comments/month).
Multiple users from my group done the same (+ don't hunt black sheeps anymore too) since the suspensions of real users that helped the site, partly since years, and got spit in the face for it.
The junior mods, when promoted to senior mods, will slow down the dying of the site but in the end none can prevent it with a owner and only admin that don't care.
When the autojoiners are 60%, not much users will do anymore, many, GAs because the site will be dead in the discussions, Deals and Freebies excluded, and no connection anymore between the people, "all" will be randoms.

Nothing new honestly xD
I was suspended for bumping thread [official reason: posting spam] of superfabs, right before he was hit with permament suspension.
Strange thing - he was vocal about issues with site rules and their implementation.. Sounds familiar?
I have that strange feeling that CG cares less about rule-breakers than about people who point out problems on the site.

I have hard time to believe that CG is oblivious to mods abusing their power. Especially that it's nothing new.
Couple of years ago discussions were full of life. Even Zalgo was not pursued except in thread name, maybe . Then all sort of things started to be unwanted. Moderation reached some insane levels - especially with the use of "inappropriate behavior" rule. And now discussions looks like a desert.
CG tried to artificially generate some traffic here though it wasn't very effective xD
Do everything to discourage people from taking part in discussions - then be surprised that forum is dying :tada:

I assume that he don't realized how bad it is because he don't care for the site.
The pure user numbers, that he seen, don't fit to the real activity and he have now, after years (that a bunch of people tried to get his attention because of all the problems) he had now the result that his earnings were lower and he realized he must do something.
But the things that he done will not fix the problems and can't save his earnings from getting lower and lower.
Maybe he will do, the needed, real work when his expenses are higher as his earnings.

But now the site has infinite ads and "changes to help with search engines and organic traffic", which may or may not be related to each other but obviously things will just improve from here.

Yes, that the black sheeps (multiaccounters, autojoiners etc.) find the site easier will help :-D
The real new people will act like the old ones that they see and that are mostly autojoiners with thanks spam or people that abuse or exploit the cv system.
My hope, on this involvement level of the only admin, are none existant.
Maybe your sentences were sarcasm/irony and i don't got it.

Compare amount of comments to amount of people who voted in the community polls.
Also they were on display and still pretty much died natural way xD
I have that weird feeling that people are less and less interested in taking part in discussions. Try to have your opinion and somebody is offended. Try to criticize SG and soon you find yourself permanently suspended :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Besides the fact that many members have automated their presence on SG it is normal for regulars to become less active in the discussions as they have seen it all before(mostly). If there isn't a constant influx of non-automated newcomers to whom all is fascinating and shiny forum activity will decrease.

...why sometimes it doesn't seem like there are many people here, and other days, things just go off?
