Ok so many years ago i bought MW1 and I still have the disk, but I really want to get it onto my computer so I can have it forever like all my games on steam... Is this possible? I have made a virtual disk once for ubuntu, but this was really hard, and difficult. Anyways, will the game let me play it if I upload it onto my computer, and can I play the multiplayer too, or will it not let me? If I was to upload it to my computer how would I do this?

BTW I legally own and bought the disk so I believe that it is legal for me to do this, but if it isn't please tell me, I wont be uploading the file to anyone, but merely using it for personal use

It is,i have activated a game key yesterday,it's actually 75% off here
EDIT: Note: Only the RETAIL GAMES listed above can be registered through Steam. No other retail games can be registered and downloaded using Steam.
So if he buys the cod 4 for 4.99 usd he will get it forever in his steam acc.

But that's not what he asked, now is it? I doubt he wants to buy the game again, even for $5. And no, the disc based version does not activate on Steam.

I was just going to make this joke.

Or is Modern Warfare the joke?

There are not many MechWarrior clones out there. Meanwhile you can guess a Steam app ID and hit a COD clone one in ten tries.

Well that's the only way I think for what you want to do, if I am understanding you correctly. Other than No-DVD .exe cracks but that wouldn't work for a multiplayer oriented game. The mounting software is Daemon Tools or Daemon Tools Lite.... you first make an .iso DVD image of the disc onto the computer with another software, maybe DVD Decryptor can do this to a game disc and it's easy to use. Then mount the .iso with Daemon Tools and it will act like it's in a virtual drive at all times. Not sure if all of this would work with something copy protected like a game, but it works with protected movies. Good luck

but anyways would it work if I was able to upload the disk, and what type of file would I want to save it as? An iso file?

Well, besides violating the EULA and technically being illegal, doing this would prevent you from playing online normally as your game data won't match the server's.

As far I was remeber, the multiplayer of COD4 is working without DVD and don't need any crack. The only need of this is when you start the SP mode. Also in this option the safest option is using the mini image.

Either use a crack, or find a good disk image and mount it with Daemon Tools. Haven't gotten any bugs with games that way.

Besides, you legally own the game so cracking it/downloading an ISO isn't necessarily (morally) illegal.
