using it right now even.
I find playing my games a lot more enjoyable when I am not prioritizing which ones to play based on if they will give me cards.

Do you even get drops with that many games running? ;o

Ontopic: Yes, it's safe, using it right now.

It's not about the cards right now. I have 7 games with 0 played time and card drops. I'm idling them all until 2hr to pass the recent refund limitation, then they'll be idled one by one, else it would take ~20 hours.

I've heard rumours that jshackles might be implementing a similar function to IdleMaster itself to save people the effort of doing what I'm doing, but haven't been able to confirm it yet. I can never tell when he's actually online or just idling anymore.

Oh, he just got back to me now. Turns out he actually already finished it, it's just a standalone function which is why I never noticed it.

It's open source, take a look for yourself. I'm not worried at all, there's nothing wrong with it.

As DarkHollow said already, the entire project is open source. I've also helped jshackles personally with a minor feature on Enhanced Steam, he's a legit good guy, you've nothing to fear.

How are you running so many Idlemasters at once?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you're using the portable client and not the install client, it doesn't need to be sandboxed. You can just run it as many times as you want.

Permalink

If you have a moment, will you tell me how the portable client works? I get that you don't have to install the program, I just don't get how you can run Idlemaster without installing it.

The portable version is a different client. You can download it here. This can be run as many times as you want. Just run it once, then run it again, skip game, run again, skip game x2, etc.

Hmm... strange. I just tried it out for the first time and it seems to be fine. Did you set up your sessionid and steamLogin ID in the settings.txt?

I was looking for a "how to do it" and didn't find one. So, no, did none of the things. Where would I find a sessionid and steamLogin ID?

Blegh, I can't think of it at the top of my head, I'll get back to you in about 30 minutes when I'm back home. Grocery shopping like the spontaneous exciting roller coaster of emotions I'm reputed to be.

Navigate to the folder you downloaded the new Idle Master Helper. There should be a .txt file called "settings". Keep that open for later.

If you've got Chrome, make sure you're logged in to Steam, then open your Settings in Chrome.

Using the search bar on the top right, search "Cookies". A "Privacy" heading will appear, click the button "Content settings..." followed by "All cookies and site data...". From there, search for "steamcommunity" and there should be one result. Click it and there should be ~14 clickable boxes. The one's you're looking for are "sessionid" and "steamLogin". If you have parental settings enabled on your account, you'll also need that. Otherwise it can be ignored.

Copy the string listed as "Content" from each ID and fill them in to the text file respectively. Keep in mind those numbers are private and shouldn't be shared. You can leave everything else as it is, close and save. Now run the idle-to-ready.exe from the same folder and it should do everything else itself.

On Firefox, it should just be Options > Privacy > remove individual cookies > search steamcommunity.

I'm using Firefox and found the string for sessionid. Yet steamLogin is just not there. Please see the picture below. Thanks for being so helpful already!!

Oh, well this helps. I just discovered the latest version of Idle Master actually extracts this information for you. Open the normal card farming version of Idle Master, File > Settings, then at the bottom left there's a little lock icon. Click that and then click the eye icon to display the info.

Can you explain me why is not working for me?

I used all 3 versions. The lone version is running, it has like 5 hours running and nothing, it hasnt even changed the game.
The stand alone client that you shown, i added 9 games to queue, left it there for like 3 hours and nothing.
The version that can open several games simultaneously pops an error that cant connect and stays there.

Does it still work?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hmm... if you've set up your sessionid and steamLogin, it should be working. Is there anything more specific the error message gives you? You also need to actually have Steam running for the programs to work.

Got it. The game i was playing previously to use the software got stuck, it didnt closed properly (though it wasnt on the tray nor the task manager), who knows what happened.

Anyways, i loged out from steam and the client notified me that couldnt be closed until the game itself was closed. After a reboot, the program already dropped a card. Ill leave the pc tomorrow and i should expect tons of cards. Thanks.

Strangely enough, shortly after you mentioned this, I actually got the same problem. It was definitely in the task manager though, check the Processes tab rather than the Applications tab.

You can't be logged out of your pc, in case you have some auto idle log out setting or something.

Nope, there is no energy saver/ sleep. Thats because i often queue something in torrents while im out.

What i do have though, its one of the shittiest ISP's that DC's me every couple of hours for a minute or so. Internet comes back on, but apparently has negative impact in the software.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh. Yeah seeing as the game isn't technically running, if the software loses connection to Steam it needs to be restarted to gain the connection again, so that's more than likely the problem.

yep

and it's OPENSOURCE, which in my opinion is a guarantee of transparency, since anyone can look into the code I bet someone will, thus spotting if it's actually good or bad

tbh I wouldn't have used it if it wasn't opensource :)

Yeah, I was hesitant too, but I actually just tried using it yesterday. It works fine once that 2-hour limit is gone. Saves time downloading things; I should have used this long ago.

You did it right, you just didn't wait long enough. Now that the refund system is in place cards drop only after two hours runtime.
