DayZ appears in Steam registry

I may be wrong, but I think it uses ArmA 3 engine, which probably uses more reasources than ArmA 2 engine due to higher quality graphics and such, but is better optimised.

You are also wrong. It uses its own engine, taking bits from Arma 2 & 3, and Take on Helicopters.

Yeah, kinda.
DayZ will utilize the Take On Helicopter engine, which is a branch of the Arma II Operation Arrowhead engine Real Virtuality. The engine is being heavily modified, including code from Arma III.

We can agree that it uses one of the worst engine ever made. And it's arma 2 engine. Arma 3 runs much better and it looks better, but still it's barely playable. And don't forget who is making this game. Expect tons of bugs, no content and horrible performance.

That may mean still 1-2 weeks - 2 months for a first early access version. I think I'll buy it on first day probably. I hope they aren't removing the humanity system, that is something rewarding players with the best behaviour, otherwise there will be a problem with killing on sight kids.
