You can't update to Genuine Window 10. You will be ugraded to non-activated copy of 10. You will have 30 days to do so.
It checks your key status with MS servers.
Better stick to 7.
Edit 1: Edited to avoid confusion below.
Edit 2 : Well, see below for more info. Seems like it shows you are activated. Not sure if it works for all though!

I'm not sure about that 1 particular mod, but I know most modders put lies like that, for whatever reason..
I know that some mods won't work on pirated versions because you don't have the latest version of the game..
But it's simple to patch pirated games, or at least, it used to be.
I'm not pirating anymore.
Comment has been collapsed.
In many cases you can mod non-legal copies, yes. But with more closed ones mods sometimes need to modify the EXE to allow 3rd party files to work, and this is when many pirated ones fail. It is still a rare occurrence among games though. The fact that I just happen to know two from the top of my head is a strange coincidence.

Well he can upgrade to non-activated Windows 10. Thats what i implied.
Comment has been collapsed.
You really gotta start learning properly. -_-
I've never said that windows license management is in anyway similar to being able to run mods on cracked games.
What I DID say was that claiming pirated win7 or win8.1 won't give you activated win10 was same as people lying about mods not working on cracked games, just so they try and stop piracy, or better yet, get you to buy legal copy.
Comment has been collapsed.
He actually can. All Windows' can upgrade, regardless of failing the genuine check or not.
Not to mention that most pirated windows run OEM keys so those cannot fail the server check.
The only "catch" is that AutoKMS doesn't work on Win10 yet, so the upgraded ones will msot likely have the black background, but that's about it.
Comment has been collapsed.
The difference is that you cannot set a background or get the non-mandatory Windows updates, unless you download them manually. Although I think from Win8.x the OS blocks the installation even then. All critical updates will work normally though.
Also, there is some rumour that may be taken with a Himalayas-sized grain of salt that after the 1-year intro period is up, MS will enforce the old non-genuine punishments like the few-minute-then-shutdown one. But since they never did this on Win8.x, I think that is just a straight-up lie.
Oh, and to my knowledge Win10 is already cracked. But if you want to know more, you need to look it up yourself since this is pretty much what can be said legally.

I'd… suggest to wait though. Currently apart from the insanely fast boot times and a much better utilisation of UEFI boards, Win10 has little advantage over Win7. IIRC, the first natively DX12 games won't come out until Christmas or maybe even Q1 2016.
Plus I remember how bad the initial cracks of Win7 and Win 8.1 turned out to be. Resulted in many reinstalls…
Let the OS settle down, let the people sort everything out, then switch next year.

If you want better performance on your toaster, switch to Win8.1 for a few months. It needs a lot less resources than Win7. Like half. The Metro UI can be hell though, unless you only use a PC like a smartphone with a bigger screen and a normal keyboard.
Also, it has compatibility issues with many old (pre-Vista, although mostly pre-XP) games.
Still, the UI and feel of Win10 is a lot closer to Win8.1 than Win7, so it's good to slowly get accommodated.

Sounds more like your hardware is so ancient it didn't have sufficient driver support. I tried running Win7 and Win8.1 on an Intel 2957U (2×1.4 GHz) with 8 GB RAM, and Win8.1 was faster. Really, really, really, really, really faster. Starting with things like 8 second start to desktop boot time instead of fifty-something. (35-ish seconds start to opening a page in web browser from startup folder, compared to almost eighty.)

True, but what I wrote above was the same hardware with different OSs. I made a mini-PC (Zotac BI-320) and tested which OS would be the best for it, and Win8.1 won. With the BIOS prepared for Windows OSs especially, it was even smoother than Lubuntu and Bodhi Linux.
I still use Win7 on my desktop though, since I mainly use my PC through an old stlyle file manager (Total Commander), with additional work done from Start menu. SO for me the Metro for everyday work is a chore, but I'll sure switch to Win10 with my new rig next year.

Hot Line Miami is not Pre Vista, nor pre XP, and it does not run on Win 8

win8 has no performance boost compared to win7. win10 on the other hand can have a noticable improvement on game performance, even now without dx12 (due to WDDM 2.0).
Comment has been collapsed.
Yep. But not sure what happens after 30 days. I never waited till that long.
For window 8 i read long back that the system auto reboots after 2 hours or something like that. Better check online on forums

FYI this is horseshit. Win7 is old as hell. Might as well get with the future while you're young.

Google Windows 10 MediaCreationTool and choose the one which fits your system, be it x32 or x64.
It will ask you if you want to upgrade your system right now, or if you want to download Windows 10 on a USB drive.
If you choose to upgrade system right now, it won't ask for CDKey and you can upgrade to Win10 easily.
If you use option to download and install win 10 later, you will be asked for win 10 serial key.
Comment has been collapsed.
It still won't be genuine. He will have to activate within 30 days
Comment has been collapsed.
My says it is activated, altho I haven't had Win8.1 or whichever serial key, I've just upgraded from cracked 8.1, it says it's activated.
Edited, sorry for being rude
Comment has been collapsed.
Well that is strange. Didnt see that anywhere else.
You know instead of being rude, you should have just shown that first.
Btw, i would advise against updating your window 10 later or atleast check what each update does. MS would likely fix this later. Just a heads up.
Comment has been collapsed.
Sorry for being rude, but I'm tired of people posting false stuff as facts without checking.
I've had both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 with automatic updates active since the beginning, and haven't had any issues.
We will see if it's the same for Win10.

You lost and you're wrong, nuff said, move on dude.
Comment has been collapsed.
I heard you can just upgrade with the Media tool. If your actual Windows is activated, you should end up with Windows 10 activated. Haven't try it, but people say it works.

the popup notification to download Windows 10 is indeed an update (KB3035583 from what I can read on internet). And btw, you never get a win10 serial key (it's only a unique install). if you decide to format your hard drive, you'll lost win10 and would have to buy it to have it again.
Comment has been collapsed.
Last I read, people who upgraded were getting the public, generic keys. Hardware activation :(
Comment has been collapsed.
non geniune windows will get you a non genuine update to win10. not a key. sorry bud :(
and it's 20Gb to download (i think)
just wait until they pirate win10
Comment has been collapsed.
Setup download is only 3.28Gb iirc.
Updates could be more, but not adding upto 20 :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Sure? cause i saw that it req 20-30Gb on your computer. i assumed that's the dl.
but you are probably right, cause they want to be able to distribute it on DVDs

a site that compared performance of the last few windows versions claimed that a fresh win10 installation uses up ~17GB.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ok, you seem to have it all muddled up. Lets clear it then.
Windows 10 is a free (more like adware-funded) upgrade that will be applied automatically as a Windows 7 update (which will be pushed with the other generic Windows Updates you see all the time) to all genuine users. For Non Genuine, no chance of a direct upgrade via Microsoft. You will have to torrent it manually.

Lower minimum requirements and better resource handling. With DX12 a lot better gaming and 3D performance. And for something more visible, OS X like multi-desktop management, just to name things from the top of my head. And if you are like me who has their stuff on a Microsoft account instead of a Google one, the integration is even better, although the difference is small. But I liked in Win8 too to have my OneDrive without any mapping or using an additional software downloaded. And IMO OneDrive is so much better than GDrive that there isn't even a comparison between the two.

I can not follow. You write "I might as well get a key" and "My Windowds 7 isn't genuine".
Well, I could also say I might get a helicopter this evening, but it probably will not happen. You will not get a legal Win10 for "owning" a non-legal copy of Win7 either.
If you just mixed up, the story is that you need Win7 SP1 for the free upgrade becoming available. The free offer is valid for an existing installation, having a key is not enough.

Stick with windows 7. Don't downgrade to 10 like I stupidly did.

Use this, you don't have to wait & it's free.
Also works on pirated versions like mine, now I have a legit copy of W10

Bear in mind that Windows 10 is not really activated by key, when using the free upgrade. Actually it will only use a generic volume key, which are:
•Windows 10 Home - YTMG3-N6DKC-DKB77-7M9GH-8HVX7
•Windows 10 Pro - VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T
•Windows 10 Home SL- BT79Q-G7N6G-PGBYW-4YWX6-6F4BT
•Windows 10 Pro VL-MAK - QJNXR-7D97Q-K7WH4-RYWQ8-6MT6Y
What Windows 10 does instead, is create a digital fingerprint of your computers hardware, tied to the activation. That means if you change your motherboard, you need to buy a new key, or have your activation reset by contacting Microsoft.
This also means that doing a clean install after upgrading to Windows 10 might not prompt you for a key, as activation will be based on your fingerprint stored in the UEFI.

So I was too lazy to do it earleir. Now with all the Windows 10 thread popping up, I might as well get a key. How do you reserve it? I don't see any notification asking me to reserve, but that may be because I haven't updated my Windows 7 since forever. And I can't download all them updates now, I have 10 GB per month download limit and I'd rather use it for browsing and downloading games and movies than updating a Windows 7 that I won't even keep (i.e will go to 10). So is there any way I can download only the particular update that allows me to reserve? My Windowds 7 isn't genuine, and I don't want to use that tool that downloads it, because I'm not going to install it now, I'd rather have the key and then download after it settles down a bit.
