Should they?
That's impossible without Valve help(I mean to know for sure if key was used). I mean the best you can have is an option to mark key as used, or once you revealed the key like in Humble Bundle or Indie Gala, you do it only when you are about to use that key, but this not proves that key was indeed used, like you said, but Bundle Stars should have something like that yes.

He doesn't mean to check if the key is valid, he means something like an option to allow you to mark it as used for yourself. Like he mentioned in his post, almost every other bundlesite does something similar, yet Bundlestars does not.

Great news. :O
For everyone who wants a simple way to keep listed their own keys from BundleStars or any other bundle store/reseller, Groupees is all what you need!
I just discovered right now this option on my purchases page:

I think BundleStars should create something like every else important bundle store/reseller already did.
On HumbleBundle you are able to see every single keys you didn't use yet in a simple table on a specific tab.
On IndieGala you are able to see which keys you already asked to show you from them, so the covered one isn't redeemed yet, logically.
On Groupees you can check yourself the used keys, plus you've also notification about new keys dropped down from eventually Greenlit games.
On IndieGameStand you have a little check that shows you keys probably already redeemed.
On ShintyLoot we've covered keys for unused ones.
On DailyIndieGame you can mark used keys.
And so on...
Yeah, BundleStars has such a great flash-based copy-paste for the keys, but i think it's really bad they don't have something simple to mark used ones.
I think to have no idea of how much virgin keys i've there. Okay, i'm not talking about hundreds of hundreds, maybe around twenty-thirty, but it's enough to be a little sad. :P
Sorry if my english is not very perfect, but i think it's understandable for you all.
