It has always been a freebie when you sign up for Gwent, yes; You could first get it free in Gwent's closed beta, starting back in October 2016, and again starting shortly after Gwent entered open beta (in May 2017), when that offer was further extended to new Gwent players.
That latter promotion seems to have persisted without interruption since then- though, in theory, the offer will end when beta does. In the meantime, the fact that they still sell the game on GOG (without notification to the promotion) is rather weird (and contrary to the "good guy" persona GOG typically attempts to portray).

It's been about a half-year since someone brought it up on SG though, I think, so between that and GOG's awkward avoidance of clearly mentioning the promotion on the game's store page, a new thread is useful (though a bump of the older one would perhaps have been more appropriate; on the other hand, given that that thread hasn't been updated since August of last year, and given the desire to avoid necroing, a new thread doesn't seem out of place).

Best atmosphere, but a lot of people didn’t like the combat :( I liked it better than 2.
