I got a key that gave me both Q.U.B.E. and Q.U.B.E directors cut. Directors cut came out more recently, but has as lower user review rating. Which one should I be playing? Is directors cut worse than Q.U.B.E, or did people just not like how it was different?

EDIT:
Is there a way to disable the voice over in directors cut?

Q.U.B.E: Director's Cut
Q.U.B.E.

In video games, the term "director's cut" is usually used as a colloquialism to refer to an expanded version of a previously released game.

Some games that are rereleased as "directors cut" are older versions of the game that no longer have previous game updates/fixes.

that's interesting o.O
but in this case it seems like the director's cut is more enjoyable than the original, plus the original is no longer on store, only the soundtrack

Director's Cut got some backlash because people didn't like how the dev handled the release. It has nothing to do with the game itself.

If I remember correctly the only new thing in the Director's Cut is that it tries to add a storyline with a voice talking to you like GLaDOS does in Portal, but it's not very interesting (hence the ratings on the DC being worse), so I'd say play the original.

If I remember right, when DC was released, people that already had the original weren't going to get the upgrade. Considering the DC basically just added a story, a lot of people were pissed, so it got a lot of hate for that. The developer relented and those with the original got the DC upgrade. But some people don't like the new story, so it gets hate for that as well. The original was more for a minimalistic puzzle game. So, would you rather have the puzzles or puzzles with story/voiceover that some people didn't care for?

Not that I know of, although you could just play the original recipe instead.

clicky

apparently it was how it was going to be, then they changed the plan for the second time.

Mine appeared in my library automatically. Anyone with the original Q.U.B.E. should have the DC as well, considering you can't even buy the original recipe version anymore.

I played both. The DC has a story added and has all the DLCs.
Also the DC has some edited level design. Some removed, some added.

Your thread reminded that I forgot to finish Q.U.B.E directors cut so I literally just finished it a minute ago. It is one hell of a great game. I hate to compare every puzzle game to portal but if you like that then you will definitely like QUBE. A lot of people don't seem to like the story but I personally found it really interesting. So I would recommend the directors cut. Haven't played the original but I think it would probably be lacking without the story.

Thanks. As it turns out, the reason I got Q.U.B.E. was because people were comparing it to Portal. :)

DC is qube with voiceover (you can mute if you do not want it) and a time trial dlc (unbuyable for the original game atm,but was available before)

Both are basically the same except for a voiceover in Director's Cut. I would recommend playing the game twice, the first time with the voiceover off and the second time with it on. Completely different experience for me.
