If you play on Linux and you frequently use Proton you might be interested in joining this group.

Giveaways for Proton reports

What are the rules?

There's only one rule: if you win a giveaway from this group you are then required to make a report on how the game runs with Proton on ProtonDB or the Proton Issues tracker. You have 3 months to do this so take your time.
If the game won is native to Linux, you don't have to submit a report unless the Linux build is known to be broken or you weren't able to run it on your system.

Why should I join?

This group has very few members and there are other Linux groups to join which are public and have no rules. This is for people that like groups such as Playing Appreciated, Playing Matters, Play or Pay or any group that requires something out of the winner of the giveaway.

How do I join?

Post a comment with a link to your ProtonDB profile or the GitHub account you use to submit reports to the issue tracker and then send a request from the Steam group page. I'll check your profile to see if you actually have some Linux playtime logged (it's fine if you also play on Windows), so make sure your profile is set to Public, at least until I accept your request.

How do I find my ProtonDB profile?

Go to www.protondb.com/profile and scroll down to Your Contributions and click on any of your reports. This will open the page for the game you reported on. Find your report again by searching for your username, under your username you'll find your total number of reports in the format (# reports). This is also a link to your profile page.

I am glad I accidentally stumbled upon this one and that there seem to be more people interested in it :) Hopefully it should help brining reports with some games that don't have (m)any yet :)

Sorry but you don't seem to have any Linux playtime and you haven't linked your ProtonDB profile. Also, you didn't send the request to join.

I really like the idea of this group. Most of the time I check protondb before buying a new game. So the more reports the better. I also wrote some reports myself: https://www.protondb.com/users/87812515

https://github.com/rZn/pornhub-downloader ... lmao. guessing thats one of the "other" sites that youtube-dl doesn't work on haha.

assuming this is the one people here would be most interested in?: https://github.com/rZn/Steam-files-and-notes although you had some other interesting stuff in there as well (will definitely be checking out advcpmv later).

this also reminds me that i need to throw my antimicro profiles up on github later too.

EDIT: Thanks for inspiring me to share my stuff as well. Only a few games at time of writing but will add more as I play. I also have some very detailed FO:NV notes including Vortex/GECK/MergePlugins/FNVEdit that I will eventually be adding after I get around to cleaning them up and converting them from Lutris to Proton. If anybody doesn't want to wait, then reply to this or msg me on steam and i will share what i have as-is.

I love the idea of this group. Thanks @Rexpulli for the group. This is a great way to get the community more interested in making proton (and maybe upstream WINE) reports. Currently waiting on my first report on ProtonDB to get approved.

Also, where on the profile does it show Linux play time? I was trying to find mine bc I was curious to see if my Linux playtime is getting close to becoming >= my former Windows playtime.... seems like that might be an excellent milestone for a gib lol. I know all the time I spent in Ark: Survival Evolved in Proton probably went a long long way towards balancing my old Skyrim playtimes on Windows (assuming both were recorded accurately) but I couldn't find that stat on https://steamcommunity.com/id/<username>/ or any of the other profile pages I tried.

It doesn't show on your Steam profile. You can get it by parsing the Steam API yourself or you can use the SteamDB calculator.

awesome, thank you. unfortunately, not sure how accurate it is... it is claiming i have 10.1h under windows. that could potentially be true for "this year" (i do recall playing a borked proton game over there briefly) but definitely not true for the life of my account (had been playing heavily on windows for years before i started using nix as my daily driver).

also total # of hour seems to be higher than my steam page list (not that it's totally accurate either... it thinks i only have 50 hrs in on skyrim... probably closer to 10x that. lmao). likewise, for linux time it says i have 672.8 h at the time of writing... again not valid for life of account but could be valid for "this year" (673 h == ~28 full days... I could see that being plausible for my 2020 playtime).

testing my steam profile totals by opening browser console on https://steamcommunity.com/id/<username>/games/?tab=all and running the following bloblet: hl=jQuery('.hours_played');;ttl=0.0;for(i=0,n=hl.length;i<n;i++){txt=hl.eq(i).text().replace(/^\s*(\d[.,\d]+) hrs on record\s*/gi,'$1').replace(/,/g, '');val=0;if(/^\d[\.\d]+\d$/g.test(txt)){val=parseFloat(txt);ttl+=val;};};console.log('total is: '+ttl + ' hrs');

EDIT: Nevermind, had missed the info tooltip on the site. It states that results are starting from Sept 2019 when Valve added the api and results will be lower than life of account.

This is a great idea. I haven't used protondb but am keen to join in now that I see how integrated and easy it is. Have sent a request.

I ran your script (had to change /bin/env to /usr/bin/env though) and it worked well. I learned about jq today! I play only on Linux but gave up after fiddling around in PlayonLinux and resorted to Native games in Steam.

That's strange. /usr/bin/env usually links to /bin/env.

I can't really comment on the links except adding that the system I ran it on, a slightly out-of-date but in-life green-tinted ubuntu derivative, doesn't have env in /bin at all.
I usually just put /bin/bash in mine so it's nice to have again learned something new.

Bump. This would be an amazing idea for mac users like me. A lot of Catalina-marked games actually run 64-bit instead of 32-bit so it would be nice to have a compatibility db at right now it's just guess-work. Thanks for the inspiration!

I just moved back to Linux a couple of months ago after sticking with Windows for the last several years. Very surprising to see just how many games run in Linux now, and everything I've played lately has been there. I'm interested in this group if you'll have me. I thought I'd made more reports but perhaps they're not linked to my user account. I normally write about Linux performance in reviews anyway so I'll try to do proton reports at the same time!
