My cousin is going to gift me one The Elder Scrolls game but I don't know which one should I choose. Morrowind, Oblivion or Skyrim. I player Morrowind and Oblivion, I didn't like Morrowind at all but Oblivion was AWESOME. So for all those The Elder Scroll veterans, which game should I get?

Morrowind is great, the legend of RPG genre, but even with Morrowind overhaul mod graphics are bit outdated, but for Skyrim comming mod called Skywind, which brings Morrowind into Skyrim engine, so if i were you i will take Skyrim

But you also need a copy of Morrowind, since the mod uses its assets, doesn't it?

Morrowind is my first choice as well.

But if you didn't like it.. I'd say go Skyrim. It's a bit more actiony and streamlined.

Morrowind is the best game in the franchise in my opinion.

Didn't like Oblivion at all, to be honest.

Skyrim was "meh" in my opinion. Good game, but wasn't much into the setting.

Since you loved Oblivion, I'd go with that :) and then maybe after you're done with that you can get Skyrim.

Lol ?

What kind of question is this...

Well Arena/Daggerfall are probably out of the question.

Morrowind had the most soul of every Elder Scrolls game as it didn't lead you by a leash and the world was interesting (Not Oblivion : General Medieval land or Skyrim : Stereotype Vikings)

As you said you liked Oblivion as you have played it and disliked Morrowind it doesn't really leave a choice now does it?

It's either Oblivion or Skyrim and as Skyrim is a new game to you and you have played Oblivion then Skyrim would be the choice for you.

As a "elders scrolls veteran" well although I have only briefly played Arena and some hours in Daggerfall I would recommend Morrowind+mods but you would probably hate it as you said.

Also from an economic perspective it's better to go for Skyrim as it's the most modern and expensive one. You can pick up Morrowind/Oblivion from the bargaining bin sections.

Arena and Daggerfall are free on Bethesda's website so he can play them whenever he wants anyway :)

Ahh nice. Kind of forgot they did that. Some companies are ultra nice (or rich) and can afford to release classics as free. Rockstar did the same for GTA's first game if I remember correctly.

I think Daggerfall was a little buggy for modern systems but I might be wrong.

As long as you don't choose Morrowind, you are fine. The combat system is really bad in Morrowind. Skyrim and Oblivion are much better.

Skyrim (heavily modded obv) is my favorite, but if you're new to the series then definitely go for Morrowind.

If I'd have to rate the games:

Morrowind 9/10

Skyrim 8/10 without mods, 9/10 with mods

Oblivion 7/10

(Also the first and second games (Arena & Daggerfall) are free to download at Bethesda's website :) dunno about Redguard or Battlespire)

I would completely disagree. If you are new the the series, I doubt that you would be able to stand the combat system of morrowind.

but it's also harder to go back to play a 2002 game after playing a shiny 2011 game isn't it :) Also Morrowind is the first in the timeline of the lore, so he won't understand a bunch of references in Oblivion or Skyrim.

Okay, I admit that before Skyrim came out, I was super excited to play the game. So I decided to play Morrowind (since I was new to the series and get associated with the Elder Scrolls series) and I was really confused as to why I couldn't kill a civilian in Balmora. I thought it was a bug. Morrowind isn't a bad game and certainly has an interesting story, but I was unable to enjoy it because I was expecting the game to be like Skyrim.

However, I do like the fact that you can kill "essential characters" in Morrowind. A HD Remake as well as a new engine would certainly gain a lot of attention.

I liked Morrowind the most but that might be my nostalgia speaking but you said you didn't like it. A lot of people didn't like the heavily RPG-inspired combat system (everything was dice rolls).
Oblivion is in my opinion the worst out of the 3, I would suggest Skyrim over Oblivion. I'd suggest Morrowind and some heavy modding over Oblivion as well.

For me it was the other way around: really liked Morrowind, disliked Oblivion. Skyrim I liked very much: it felt a lot like Morrowind in terms of freedom and I really liked the nordic theme. And of course dragons. :)

Oblivion or Skyrim

I love them both equally. I actually love all of them in different ways, but those are the easiest to recommend.

Morrowind has the most immersive and best story out of all the games. It's landscape is phenominal and you actually feel 100% ass if you were in that world. The ONLY downfalls are its combat and graphics. during it's time it was revolutionary, but now its graphics may seem a little outdated. I personally play a game for the game and not what it looks like but others may disagree. The combat isn't fantastic but it suits the game. Not to say the combbt doesn't work, it just doesn't look as polished as games you see today (obviously). Morrowind also has two AMAZING expansion packs. These expansion packs vastly expand the game, whereas oblivion and skyrim expansions/dlc barely even touch the game and instead add elements that don't really fit into the game. Morrowinds expansions actually influence and further immerse you into the game. Do a little research, they are epic. The world is actually very dangerous, very in depth, and very well made. Every piece of this game was tailored to make the player feel like they are a part of it. I cant say that for any other elder scrolls games.
I personally thought Oblivion was a little lackluster and boring. Skip it.
Skyrim is a well made game, but very seriously lacks the immersion, story and developed characters that you have in morrowind. Its a fun game but you dont feel like you are in the world. the scenery and landscapes are pretty dull, and everything seems to be very fake. Don't forget that most of the non main quests are fetch quests - bring me this, go kill this bandit, etc. Not very exciting.
I'd say that if you were to get skyrim, play morrowind first.

I'm assuming you didnt want reviews of the first couple games or online, so there you have it. Do some research into morrowind.
I am aware you didnt like morrowind, try to look past the graphics and combat system because it is hands down the best game of them all. Just about every review online will tell you that as well.
Oblivion was a very very bland game so I am suprised you preferred it to morrowind. Again I am assuming those two things put you off.

Play Morrowind and Skyrim if you haven't. Morrowind is probably my favorite, but Skyrim is a good game. I couldn't stand Oblivion, to be honest.

as a TES veteran i recomend Morrowind, by far the game i sinked more hours into, Skyrim is allright, Oblivion too, but by sheer variaty in quests, locations, histories, Morrowind is the best.

Morrowind is great and pretty much the only game in the series worth the time. Well, Daggerfall was also fun for a while. The rest is meh.

I played Oblivion 1st, then Morrowind and Skyrim. To be honest, I totally dislike both Morrowind and Oblivion for some reason. They just didn't appeal to me, the setting, combat, skills... However I really enjoyed playing Skyrim and I still do now and then, especially fun with mods = endless replayability. So my vote goes to Skyrim (I'm by no means saying that's it'd be the best TES tho).

I have never played oblivion, however I like both morrowind and skyrim, if you are completely new to the elder scrolls, I would start with morrowing, it is more basic, but once you get used to it, move on to skyrim as it has better graphics and gameplay.

I own them all, played them all.

From my point of view Morrowind is an absolute epic game, Oblivion was kind of a flop for me, didn't really enjoy the changes made and Skyrim moded can be an interesting game in which u can easily sink over 100 hours in, but lacks the depth of Morrowind for sure.

Get Skyrim in hopes that the Skywind mod will live up to the hype, that way u can enjoy maybe both.
