Ignore the legendary, look at the other exclusive pokemon, see if anything you like is only in one game.

Legendaries are pointless as there are not used in battles. Other Pokémon are more important. For me, Tyranitar was the reason I got Y edition. I love this one since the first time I played Silver.

I always use at least a legendary, but hooray, a fan of Tyranitar! :)

Yes I was talking about actual fights with other REAL trainers. The ingame fights seem to get a lot easier too so I don't get why one would need to use a legendary like in let's say the 1st gen especially because they don't seem to have anything exciting to offer. Leveling up seems a lot easier in this generation too. I got several lvl 100 now after only about 60 hours of playtime.

If you're looking only at a battle between the X legendary and the Y legendary, the X one would win. But...you really shouldn't choose the game based on the legendary alone...

Actually I find the legendaries to be more important. You can and will get the exclusive pokemon via wonder trading.
This generations legendaries aren't all that great imo though. If one looks cooler than the other for you, or you like one color more than the other just go on that.
Or if you have a friend with X or Y, just get the opposite.

So not fair. Pokemon Y get's Tyranitar, but Pokemon X get's Houndoom and The Blue/Black Charizard.

It's pretty easy to get what you want from the GTS later on, excluding Legendaries and Mega Evolution stones. Wonder trade (trade anything for anything) also works wonders for your Pokedex and competitive battling breeding when you aren't getting Scatterbugs and Weedles.

Scatterbugs are awesome though. Get all the Vivillon colours! But yeah, Wonder Trade's pretty sweet, I've got a Gale Wings Fletchling (it's hidden ability) from it, as well as a couple of Houndours (I have Y). Not to mention all the foreign language Pokemon...I can finally see Pokemon metric measurements!

Money budget, and I don't really care for the 3D graphics.

a 2DS is around $170, while just a 3DS is around $300.

I had both in my hands and while I admit I have 3D turned off all the time (it's fun to some amount though) the bigger screen and flexible two-part design is more appealing to me. The 2DS really seems more suitable for little kids, as intended.
It really sucks the prices are like that for you. Over here the 2DS was 199€ while the 3DSXL was 179€ so the choice was obvious.

They are both pretty good, Xerneas(Pokemon X) has a much better defensive typing, along with one of the best boosting moves in the game, while Yveltal(Pokemon Y) Has a better offensive movepool. It was said earlier, but it is fairly easy to get the version exclusives through the GTS, or other forms of trading. The Megastones however are much harder. So if the legendary doesn't matter to you, base your decision on which megastones you want.
X Exclusives: Tyranitarite, Manectricite, Pinsirite, Mewtwoite X, Charizardite X.
Y Exclusives: Heracrossite, Houndoomite, Aggronite, Mewtwoite Y, Charizardite Y

Well I'm personally buying X on Monday because overall, X has more Pokemon I prefer, though Y does have Tyranitar :( but my roommate has Y so I can trade with him anyway :D

Lucky you, I'm still trying to find someone who has X who is willing to give me his evolution stone for Tyranitar.
By the way...no thread for friend-codes in this forum?

I would share my friend-code, except I don't have one yet, buying a 3DS XL along with Pokemon and probably one of the Zelda games on Monday :P

I'd suggest to get a Nintendo 3DS (the smaller version, not the XL), it doesn't cost more than 2DS (I found it at a local hypermarket for 130€, pretty much the same price as 2DS) and it's way easier to carry around and compatible with old DS covers and stuff :P

In the next couple couple or few weeks, I'll be getting a Nintendo 2DS along with a Pokemon Game of X or Y.
I know that both of them are the same game, if they are like the previous games, but what legendary is better?
