Achievements will never grant experience toward Steam levels because there are no restrictions on achievements. An indie developer could intentionally create one thousand easy achievements just to entice people to buy their game.

what if the amount of XP was in relation to the percent you've accomplished. Therefore, achieving 10% of 100 achievements will receive the same XP as 10% of 1000 achievements.

Yep, i was thinking about the same thing. Like in a game with little amount of achievements, every achievement would give more XP than achievements in a game with a big amount of them.

You'd still run into the problem of indie developers wanting to push sales up by creating easy achievements. Take a crappy game that's not selling; add ten easy achievements; advertise them as an easy way to get Steam exp; profit.

I don't see SAM as a reason something like this wouldn't get implemented because if Valve really wanted to, they could take measures to prevent/block that.

I could see them slowly pushing up the required level for participation. Eliminates lots of side accounts while also forcing people to use the market to buy cards which they get a cut from.
Nothing will come from achievements unless completely change how they work as SAM would ruin anything.

Well this really sucks. There should be some kind of rewards for achievement hunters.

Earn certain Steam achievements, get Greenman Gaming credit.

So, can I redeem Greenman Gaming games on steam?
If yes, then this feature is really cool!

Dont bother with playfire, probably it wont read your progress on steam achv. I've tried it and at this moment the system is a total garbage. It "scored" my achv that was on the list 2 days after the achv list expired (so it no longer gave me cash for GMG)..or it didnt scored some achv at all. Dont waste your time I say

Free money > No free money. Beta doesn't work perfectly, but that is why it is called a beta.

True! That's the most satisfying thing when I do a little achievement hunting. But still, who would refuse for something even more? :D

Nope. I'm currently using it myself, but for card farming. Beats wasting my limited datacap on games I won't play for a bit of change.

You download SAM, run the program and double click on the game you want to earn cards for. It brings you to a listing for achievements to unlock, minimize that and then leave it running for about an hour or so.
I use it because not all the games work well for me, had a couple that crashed at startup. Only tricky thing is that not all games show up in there so if that happens you have to add it by the appid number.

Yeah, but you need to download the game. For people on caps, that sucks.

As I understand achievements can be hacked, so I don't think it's a good idea.

Never understood the draw of achievements myself, but levels are permanent and can be used in a way.

Achievements idea sounds awesome , but Delta got a point there .

Achievements exist mostly to compare to XBox and PSN to a degree since they allow for an easy way for people to show off and people do enjoy that. There is definitely a subgroup of gamers who only play games with achievements and only buy games with achievements. There's also the fact that achievements earned showing up on your activity feed also acts as a bit of advertisement for a game since that can show that hey, my friend is playing X game and seems to be enjoying it, maybe I should check it out too. It's just yet another means of word of mouth advertising that is pretty subtle.
But as long as they are easy to hack, can't see Valve doing anything to add to Steam levels for them, even though something like a point per completed game would be kinda nice without really breaking the system too much even if someone cheats.

Is there any or it will remain as your virtual #swag?
I remember that in winter sale only people who had reached a certain level could vote for community's choice. Will Valve do more cool stuff for people who have bigger levels.
And is there any future for steam achievements? I heard that they were added just for one reason - to increase sales. Achievements could at least give us exp for our steam levels. How do I tell this to Gaben? I had this idea that all achievements could give us some exp but more rare ones would give us more exp so people would actually explore games and try to get those hard and rare achievements.
