My experience with the G400 was bad (although I love my MX518).
My G400 had a loose left mouse button that wobbled constantly and made annoying noises. E-mailed logitech, they sent a replacement, and the replacement had the same problem. They sent another replacement.... SAME PROBLEM. I scoured their website and reviews and many people had this issue (even the review of the mouse on their main webpage someone had this issue).
Logitech's response?
"I can't guarantee that the next G400 I send or you buy will be without this, what you call a defect."
WHAT I CALL A DEFECT?!
That is one of the WORST responses I have ever seen from customer support. It is an unacceptable statement to a long-term and loyal customer. I promised them in my response then that I would not buy Logitech again, and so far I still have not been tempted.

He did lie to me, in a sense. He basically acknowledged there is a problem, and then completely washed Logitech's hands of it by implying the problem was a matter of opinion and not in fact a real issue ("what you call a defect").
I understand that sometimes products have defects, obviously. Sometimes isn't 3 different mice in a row though (1 from a UK shop, 2 from Logitech's own warehouse). Google "G400 loose button" and it comes up loads of results (and now also YT vids of people opening their mice up and fitting in bits of plastic to raise the mouse clicker).
The G500 is not a direct replacement to the MX/G400 series, it is a completely different mouse. The G400 is the "newer" version of the MX518, and it is riddled problems for many users. I got a refund in the end as my conversation with Logitech support confirmed my suspicions that they are lowering the QA drastically.

After several years with the MX518 (wore out two completely) they ran out of them in the local stores so I had to invest into a G400, guess I am among the lucky few as I have no problems with it, and the logitech gaming software that came along with it is a HUGE upgrade to the previous software. After 3 defects I'm not sure I would bother with it either, but what if 4th time would be the charm? :P

Surely by the law of averages the 4th would be fine. I'm also sure that the majority of what comes out of the factories is in fact fine, otherwise they would have collapsed as a company long ago. However to have sent me 3 with the exact same issue was too much.Unless I go to a shop, and they open the package of a G400 and let me try the buttons and play on a PC with it first, there is no way I would ever pay money for it again.

A Razer Naga MMO Mouse might be something you're after, though I don't think they are very cheap.

A4TECH D-320, don't need any of those special mouses.

Logitech G700.

I had a Razer Naga before and the cable got cut....I was really pissed off so i decided to get a wireless mouse. Now i'm a happy Logitech G700 user. The mouse feels really nice in your hand, the side buttons don't get in your way like the Naga ones does, the battery lasts about 15 hours of intense usage, but it can last up to 2 days of just browsing.
The charging cable also works as data cable, so you can take out the mini-receiver and use the mouse as wired. The battery is fully charged in about 2 hours.
Oh, and it's gorgeous.

Don't get a wireless mouse - they're finicky and annoying.
There's plenty of mice with lots of thumb buttons - Logitech, Razer, and Mad Catz all make them.
I'd suggest going to a nice electronics store and holding them in your hand first - figure out which one feels the most natural.

I've always found wired mice to be much more finicky and annoying, the wires of those things always seem to get caught on something.

Same. I though have a wired mouse on the side, in case if my wireless's dies mid-game. My new wireless mouse is really inefficient for battery usage, just yesterday it finished both AAA batteries, and I haven't even had the mouse for half a year!

I'm using some cheap wireless mouse, it holds for about 3weeks, then batteries dies. Sadly it doesn't have more than usual buttons.

I'm using my ROCCAT Kone Pure and I'm in love with it ^_^

Corsair M95, I have the M90 and it's the best mouse i've ever used, the side buttons are super easy to use, not like the razer that has a lot of buttons but it's hard to know which is which. And gaming mice aren't wireless because why do you want it wireless? it can disconnect in the middle of a game, you have to be swapping batteries or charging it every so often, and it has more lag.

I'm quite happy with my Logitech G700. The only downside would be the poor battery life (needs to be recharged every couple of days) but I just plug it into my USB cellphone charger (it charges on a standard micro-USB port) overnight. That's the price you pay for a "gaming" mouse however, it has a great sensor and it doesn't go into sleep mode like regular wireless mice do.
Most of the people talking hate about wireless probably never had a good wireless mouse themselves.
I have NEVER had my mouse disconnect in the middle of a game.
The only way I would have to swap batteries is if I forgot to plug it in for several days (and even then, the battery is swappable, its a standard AA NiMH, or I could plug it in with the USB cable and keep playing while it charges).
The lag is not noticeable (if you think you can notice 1 or 2 milliseconds of lag then you're either deluded or a god).

I love my DeathAdder2013. I never push it past 4500dpi though, 6300 is crazy sensitive. The 8[maybe more?]ft cord never gives me any issues either; it's very finely braided and slides like silk, even when I pull my keyboard across the room to compensate for my very, VERY short headset wires. [it's all plugged in to my keyboard]

I am so disappointed, expected a picture of a mouse that was gaming :/

Razer Naga Legendary - wireless version of Razer Naga. And have a twice price than Razer Naga. I'm using Razer Naga Molten Edition.

Honestly, you probably don't actually need a dedicated gaming mouse. I got a $20 Logitech mouse and it works fine for me, unless you want the extra features like adjustable weights and buttons. You can emulate at least some of the features of a gaming mouse with keyboard shortcuts, macros, and adjusting mouse sensitivity.
