I just binge watched seasons 2 and 3. I haven't read the books so I don't know how it compares. I felt they were a lot better than season 1 and I do hope there will be a season 4. Loial's sacrifice was really moving and Siuan's execution was appalling even though it was pretty obvious both events were coming.

The fact that you have not yet read the books likely made it easier to enjoy the show, since you had no real expectations to be shattered. I think of the show as either a "World of If" or a Tainted nightmare that will end with "I win again, Lews Therin".

I do think it is easier to enjoy something if you don't compare it to source material or other material in the genre. Like this doesn't hold a candle to the original Game of Thrones but it's still a decent show. Or how Nick Fury was actually white but that doesn't change the fact that Jackson did good with the role. In that vein I've read that Salvor Hardin, Gaal Dornik and Demerezel were male in the books but I still enjoy Foundation. My only gripe would be they probably made these changes to push agendas.

Maybe they made these changes to stretch minds. And look it worked. What an agenda! ;)

No, you can easily create a new character in an existing IP to do that or just make an entirely new IP. Changing major existing characters from white males into black females is just pushing agendas. Try taking an existing major black male role and having a white woman play it and see the shit storm that comes out of that. That would be racist whereas the opposite is just expanding minds? Surely even you can see the double standard? Am I wrong? I mean, I'm sure nobody wants to see Charlize Theron play Kunta Kinte anyway. At least I give credit where it is due. As I said Jackson did great with Fury and Idris Elba did well with Roland Deschain. I think Salvor Hardin is mediocre but Gaal and Demerezel have done well with their roles. I will say it's a lot better than what was going on 60+ years ago with John Wayne playing Genghis Kahn or Burt Reynolds playing a Native American. But it is just a few roles here and there so it's not the end of the world or anything.

lol "even you" as in a dumb dirty liberal like me?
It's ok. I don't expect you to understand. You have grown up seeing yourself in everything from tv to movies to video games. It's natural to you so you don't get the problem. And yet you are screaming agenda the minute a few white characters are replaced by diverse characters instead so I guess you do see it but only when it's about you.

The only agenda is to reverse the falsehood you have grown up with and let some kids grow up seeing themselves represented. If you want to call that an agenda, then sure, whatever works for you.
I would actually have no problem with Charlize Theron playing Kunta Kinte. She's a good actress and I have suspension of disbelief for yeaaaaars because I grew up on plays and you had to use your imagination for it to work.
But yeah some people would have a problem with that, the same way some have problems with white male characters being swapped in for diverse characters. The only difference is Kunta Kinte's identity as an African man is part of the character, an integral part. Characters in WoT or Foundation being white men had literally nothing to do with their identity.

I'm glad your world is not ending though :P

You really get up in your feelings and resort to name calling and playing the victim card very quickly. I have told you in the past that I have been more of a victim than you will ever be. There are plenty of characters and stories for everyone out there, there is no need to change any of them to fit an agenda. End of story.

For whatever reasons they made those changes, they certainly fractured the online fan fora. Communities that were all united behind The Wheel of Time were driven apart into tribes of Bookcloaks and Darkfriends. It was heartbreaking to watch.

Never good to see a community divided, always will happen though

Yeah when "fans" start hating everything they profess to love because the original material is not adapted word for word, it's called a Tuesday I think. And when online community tear themselves apart because they disagree on what they profess to love, I think it's just called the internet.
The very reason I watch what I watch because I like it and don't watch what I don't like and I stay away from supposed "online communities"

I'd heavily disagree. IMO, the middle stretch is definitely the most boring, from book 7-9 as things kind of fall into a weird stasis. Or at least major parts of it.
1-3 feels a bit traditional but definitely has great moments and is a good enough start to the series. But 4-6 is definitely the part that got me pumped as hell for WOT

Because people are not saying this: world construction on the wheel of time is, in my opinion, awesome.

However the characters are written blandly. In the first books, before they are better developed, they are usually attached to one characteristic to describe most of their personality.

Jordan didn't have a good pace for the story. Some characters had their epic struggles solved too soon... And barely have development on later books. Some have little improvement and then are rushed to epic levels.

Others needed too much preparation to be set before it could finally reach the final. This becomes the long stretch on middle books that seems like nothing happens, but the characters must mature and develop to reach later books. Could it be cut short? No... But maybe all events could be better distributed.

The world is awesomely built and I would recommend the books. I watched the first two seasons and they were quite meh.... Said that, the

I kind of got that Jordan wasn't the best with the whole "dark friend" thing, that just sounds like something a little kid would come up with. I do like the world and the characters but every time I hear dark friend I shake my head. Those ultra pacifist kick their own people out for saving them crap was garbage in my opinion too. But overall it's still pretty good, just some glaring weak points here and there.

That always adds to the age of the books. There are references that say Tolkien's lord of the rings almost went the same way with the shadow grows or return of the shadow...
But I agree
Darkfriend and shadow is a bit overused and too... Basic haha

The books are available on humble right now. All 17 books (16 novels + 1 companion guide) are $18.
Of course, they have the silly modern covers.

I really enjoyed season 3. Season 2 was a bit of a hit and miss. Some plots were good. Others not so much. And they are sometimes having trouble juggling all the plot lines. But season 3 was more balanced, I felt.
With all these characters, heads are going to start rolling but at least characters who died were well developed and nothing felt gratuitous.
The last couple of scenes of the finale gave me chills. It was really cool to see Rand finally channel fiercely (even though that whole storyline is so much Dune, they had a hard time trying to make it look like it wasn't) and the fact it was intercut with Siuan's speech about facing the truth and the corruption of power was very good writing.

I hope they are renewed or that Sony shops it somewhere else if Amazon's idiots pass on it.

It would be such a loss if they don't at least make a 4th season, I was very disappointed with Paramount dropping Halo. I guess there will always be something to watch at least.

I agree. And they would need at least 2 seasons to properly close the show (while throwing a looooot of the story from the books overboard but if that's the only way to get to the end of the story... it would still suck but what can you do?)

I think Shoreh Aghdashloo was saying she was learning her lines recently so I'm guessing that means they had a greenlight but it's not official yet? I don't think they would start production on season 4 without a renewal but there might be a negotiation issue between Sony and Amazon. Maybe Netflix could pick it up. They have the money and they definitely need the show.

The text part with Loial is visible with a dark blue background.
Usually you have to hover over it to see it.
At least on my Firefox.
Edit:
Just checked it on Chrome.
There it's working as (you) intended ;)

When a certain somebody was decapitated in the last episode, I thought to myself, "and that is the show also being decapitated."

You can't just kill off characters who are significant to the entire story over fourteen books when you're only four books in, lol. Well, you can, if you aren't getting another season, I guess.

Fun series with excellent acting and visuals but piss poor and 100% unnecessary deviations from the actual story.

I read every book, and I loved them - even the long segments at the beginning where it was just walking to another place peacefully. My friend, who I recommended the books to, mentioned for the first 3 or 4 books that all they did was walk somewhere. It took a long time to build the world. I added the wheel of time to my amazon playlist, but the free sub ran out before I got to watch even one episode. I preferred The Boys instead, and I didn't get through all of those either. Maybe next year.

So, I did not enjoy how the show butchered the books. At times I think the show runners didn't really read the books in the first place, just got chatgpt to quickly explain.
