Well steamgifts, after years of saving money I finally pulled the trigger! For the last 5 years I've used nothing but an old ASUS gaming laptop for all my computer needs, BUT NO MORE!

I just finished ordering all the parts for my very first pc build which cost me around $4000 which you can see here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Cdztr7

Please feel free to give me some feedback on the build itself BTW

All I need now (apart from a bigger desk for my new rig) is a new RGB mechanical keyboard to go with it!

I've been debating between a few which I've listed in the poll. Some just came out and others have been around a little while. I just recently went to the store to test some of the different switches and found that I seem to gravitate toward the Cherry MX Browns for the most part (or Razer Oranges or equivalent). I wasn't too into the Romer-G switches from Logitech's keyboards, but I wanna see what you guys think about these keyboards in general so I included it just in case (maybe you guys can convince me to give them a second chance).

And sorry but there are no gibs this time (I just dropped 4 grand so I'll be on the value menu for a while)

EDIT: I SCREWED UP THE POLL: Its supposed to say Logitech G910 Orion Spectrum (on a related note, why cant we edit polls?)

Probably should have waited a few more months to see how Ryzen and Vega will turn out. I personally have used a Corsair K70 for 5 years, I absolutely love it. If you don't mind the price-tag, the Corsair K95 RGB Platinum is the way to go.

I was looking at the new Ryzen chip news from CES, but my friends have have some problems with certain games on AMD products. Still looking forward to seeing how they turn out and how good the performance is tho.

Big thing was that my little laptop is dying on me and having overheating issues. With my college classes all being online I definitely need a new pc ASAP.

Corsair K95 RGB Platinum, corsair is doing really nice quality products, if you can afford the platinum get it.

Look at Roccat's products. They're of good quality. Also, I don't recommend Razer.

I'm using a Logitech keyboard which comes with Romer-G switches. They're not very different or really better than others, just standard keys.

Haven't used Corsair keyboards but I know they're a good company.

I have 2 different setups here: one for a gaming / multimedia machine plugged to the big TV in the living-room, with a wireless Logitech keyboard/pad combo (and also a wireless mouse), and another one on a classic desktop. For the latter, I use "disposable" keyboards, I mean ultra-cheap ones that I change when necessary (keyboards turn quickly into bacteria nests !). So unless you really need a combat keyboard, I'd go for the cheapest one.
Edit: I should have googled RGB keyboard before answering. Sorry for the noise :)

I got a BlackWidow Chroma with green switches for Xmas a few years ago and it still works great. I know some people have issues with the quality of Razor products, but my experience is pretty good.

I'm using an old Cherry G81-3000 keyboard, which has one important advantage: it's still made in Germany/Europe and is much more durable than all those modern keyboards. It also has those great old mechanical MX switches. You can still get those keyboards pretty cheap on ebay, if you're lucky (I paid less than €20 for mine).

K70 Original. Screw those macro keys.

I selected other because the Logitech G910 is over the top. If you want to keep a simplistic look with great keys and functionality the G810 Orion spectrum is a more professional choice.

Pretty nice build you got there. I'm sure you will be blown away during your gaming sessions. :)

I will share my thoughts on what i would've done different based on my own research (currently getting my parts for a new build).

  1. A reason for not getting an NVMe SSD ? You got 2 M2 ports (IIRC) on your motherboard.

  2. i7700K is known to have very high temps when OC'd, you could've won some degrees by just choosing a Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut instead of this thermal paste. By no means the Artic Silver is bad, but the Kryonaut or even a Gelid GC Extreme would be an improvement for about the same price. (i think it's priced a few bucks higher, but it's well worth the difference imo)

  3. Really like your choice for the mobo and the case. Personal preference tho, i like how the NZXT Kraken x62 looks compared to others AIO and performance wise it's on par with that Corsair i believe. Did you even considered it during your research ? Or maybe never heard about it ?

I'm not expert for Keyboards but again based on my own research, i would definitely pick a Ducky Channel keyboard over all the mechs you mentionned. Take a look at the newest Ducky Channel Shine 6. Another one that got my attention is the Topre Realforce RGB.

I own a Corsair mouse and i can tell you their software (CUE) is really buggy and i've seen many keyboards owners complaining about it too. So i advice you do some research before pulling the trigger.

+1 on NVMe. Samsung 960 Evo.

I was going to originally get one of the Samsung 960 Pro M.2 drives. I need to do more research on the evo variants. Main thing that held me back was the price of them. I definitely need at least 2TB of storage right now for all the games I like to play and figured I'd just wait to buy one of those when the prices drop a bit.

Well, the thing is you won't see any differences for your games between the 850 pro and any other NVMe available (we're talking about 1-2secs faster loading, who cares ?). If it's the only purpose then it's not worth replacing it.

However, it would be noticeable for all your applications and daily use. So basically, putting your OS + apps on a NVMe SSD and all your games on a classic SSD. That's what is recommended but to be fair the difference isn't as big as going from HDD to SSD.

Now that you got your SSD, i would highly recommend to wait for what Optane will bring to the table since your motherboard is compatible.

Just read the rest of your stuff. Sorry for not doing so before. I was up past 8AM overnight ordering parts and doing last minute searches so I was pretty fatigued.

I admit that NZXT Kraken does look nice and I hadn't even heard of it. If I had noticed it before I definitely would've considered it.

As for the i7 7700k temperatures, one of the reasons I got the mobo I did is because it comes with a water cooling block. Eventually I am hoping to do a custom water cooling loop when I have more knowledge on the subject and hopefully that will help in the future. Also the reason I bought a full tower case over a mid. I will definitely keep an eye on those temperatures after I get it all set up. Hopefully that corsair cooler will do a decent job.

The Optane is definitely something I'll be looking forward to in the future. Hopefully transferring my OS and main files to that will be an easy process of simply cloning the drive.

Nice build.
But I would have never picked a 2 TB SSD. May I ask what you need it for? :P
Also I think the case is a little bit expensive.. but I guess you're also going for the optics ^_^

I liked that the case was made for silence and the Qi charger on top of it will be nice when I get my new android withing the next few months. As for the 2TB SSD its cuz I have 1TB on my laptop right now and I already have it completely used up. I plan to use this pc for both gaming and online IT classes which use a lot of simulation programs. SO I'll be downloading a lot of stuff onto it.

Apart from the main keyboard you might want to consider this little one too.
I simply love it and it can fit into your palm.

For the love of god, stay away from Corsair. They leds die at after some random time, if you are lucky you can hit them until they work again, like seriously, my scroll key changes colour when i blow it. I own a KB 95 RGB and this is my second one, had to change the first one after a led died for good. Support was great and sent me a replacement free of charge and only asked me to cut the chord of the old one, but the product is just not good.
