Let's say I'd want to give away Deponia: Chaos on Deponia. Playing that game without playingt the first game beforehand is probably a bad idea. Therefore I would only want people who A) own the first game and B) has the achievment you earn from beating it, to be able to join the giveaway.

I wish it was possible to set up your own requirments based on the stats of peoples Steam accounts.

This could work in the same way as DLC does. If you don't own the base game you are simply not allow to join the giveaway.

You can do that, from a private giveaway and moderator approval.

EDIT: Not that hard. I hope it's in the FAQ somewhere.

I want it to be automatical and to be able to do it on a public giveaway. As it is now you'd have to monitor every entry which is inconvienient.

Well, you could always just wait until it ended, and then see if the winner met the conditions, sending a re-roll request if he does not.

Currently against the rules, I believe, especially at such widely placed pre-requisites

That's actually...a very good idea if I'm honest. Conditional requirements based on achievements...It would mean that you're able to know the person actually plays the game a reasonable amount for a DLC, for example, or as you said completed a predecessor...Or even just a fan of the genre of game if you could set multiple achievements, with a setting to say Achievement 1 or Achievement 2, for example...

And all this lies within steam community, which is already accessible by steamgifts, as that's how we check if you have the game in the first place...Not a bad idea at all...

I personally like buying all the DLC before I play a game.

I do it for some games, particularly if there's a bundle offer on it, but sometimes I just don't find it necessary, or the DLC is released after I buy the game, like Skyrim.

That is why I haven't bought Skyrim. If the DLC is meaningless like character skins then I won't wait.

Just make it as private and invite who fill your requirements ^^

That idea just sucks In my opinion.
Let say that I have for example Batman Arkham Asylum on Retail DVD and I want to enter a Batman Arkham city give away, but I don't have the first one on Steam.
What would I do? Buy the first one on Steam, that I already have on Retail JUST to enter a giveaway that I might not end up wining?

This Idea is not a good one. Keep that for Private Giveaways.

All other things aside, anyone who buys a game just so they can enter a giveaway is a fucking dumbass and shouldn't have rules curbed in their favor.

While you're bringing up a good point, I do believe extra requirments would actually work to your advantage more often than not.

I see 2 problems with this:

1) He may have a non steam version of the first game.

2) He played the game in off-line mode (achievements don't unlock in off-line mode).

don't always*

I've had cases where they came as soon as I launched again online because the game somehow kept track behind the scenes and Steam captured that they were registered as acquired.
Can't recall examples.

While I see this as a good idea, it's flawed as well.

For example, someone like me who couldn't get their hands on Deponia yet could want to enter for Chaos on Deponia and not play it until after they've played Deponia.

Before you say anything, there's video reviews, demos, etc so someone could know they would like the game without having played the predecessor.

And how would the achievement(s) required be controlled? If it has to be human control it's a bother to the mods who already have enough work as it is and you can also get the same result from doing private giveaways with approved rules.

The idea is it would be done automatically. If you don't fulfill the requirments, you can't join the giveaway. The data is all there.

Yes of course. Remember it would be up to the person who created the giveaway to decide whether or not he wants to add those extra requirments.

That's why that is called a PRIVATE giveaway. The public giveaways can still have contributor requirements. Has anyone ever said to you, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I've entered drawings for the Chaos of Deponia. There was a drawing by a well-known person on SG and requested that people not enter if they hadn't finished the first one. I respected that request (though left a comment anyway) and didn't enter the drawing mentioned. I went to the store page to read about the first one and now understand that starting at the beginning of Deponia would be the best idea.
