Didn't feel like making two topics, so I'm combining them. Basically asking for suggestions.

Couple of Western games I've seen:

Red Dead Redemption (I know it's not on Steam, but damn I wish it was on PC)

Call of Juarez (Would have got it already had it not been a FPS. I hate a first-person camera)

Couple of Noir-style games I've seen:

L.A. Noire

Heavy Rain (to an extent, also, wish it was on PC too)

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (to an extent as well)

Jumping on the obvious answer to the noir question: Max Payne and Max Payne 2. Haven't played 3, so can't speak to that.

I died the first time while trying to deal with it :(
I waited it out before running for the cable car and it chased me. Stupid door would open OUTWARDS, meaning that I would have had to step back to open the car door. And the bloody werewolf kept mauling me.

Second time I just crushed the bastard in the observatory tower's doors.

Gemini Rue looks interesting. iirc it's a point-and-click no?

How does it play out? Does it require pixel hunting? I don't p-a-c's but pixel hunting is where I draw the line.

No pixel hunting. In fact, none of the frustrations of most adventure games, from my perspective. It's fantastic.

^^^ THIS! I still cringe over the fact that MS bought off Access Software for their golf game and completely stopped this wonderful line of games. Now I'll never know what happened after Overseer. It's not on Steam but you can get the games on GoG.

Edit: Apparently, Project Fedora from Big Finish Games is bringing back our beloved Tex Murphy.

Its a shame they never released it for PC.. but its well worth buying an Xbox or PS3 for that game. If you like Western AND Noir, its pretty much the best you can get (besides beeing one of the best games of this generation overall). It has awesome landscapes and a great story and you get this feeling of loneliness and tragety lurking around every corner.

for me the game is a bit bland, too few things to do on the map. for me they either dhould have made the map smaller or add more "mini-quests" in the map. the weapons are also too similar. for me it miles away from bethesda games. that's just my opinion, i think rockstar makes very bland games...

I'm going to throw out Bastion in the Western category, too. No one's going to confuse it with a Clint Eastwood movie any time soon, but there are elements of the music, narration, and plot that give it a sort of frontier vibe that may or may not be what you're looking for. Also, it's just really damn good.

not on Steam, but Outlaws (1997) needs a mention anyway
(the music in that vid is from the game, btw -- get the music, if nothing else)
back when Lucasarts could still make games (although... vertical space was kinda newer... you had to shoot just below (or above, I can't remember) the enemies if they were really high up)
