Hmm... I know that it is not bad to get that message via email. But in the last 24 hours I got six of those emails. So someone out there checked six steam keys and requested to know the owner of said key. That does make me a little nervous, to be honest.

Opened this thread to see if others are also affected or if it is just me.

Basically nothing to be afraid. Just a bunch of cd-keys you used from public giveaways with visible keys.

Must be really old public keys, then ;)

Did you get one of your recent keys from a public place?

Personally I got one message like that recently, but it's nothing to worry about.

Nope, no public keys for me for the last, I don't know, nine months or so? Maybe even longer.

Same, I will change my every account password connected to my email adress. Some hackers are working hard lately I guess.

Not related.
Anyone that know a key you activated can generate those queries

If you didn't update your passwords for a long time, do it. Otherwise because of those emails there is no need to.

Don't worry about it, no one is getting your account email or password. It's probably just a random bot who is checking all keys that were posted on a public giveaway.

Thank you, but I know. I am not worried for my account

Oh, thank you! Didn't know about that thread there.

At first I did get creeped out by that, but then I realised there's really no way for them to even know which e-mail address it was sent to, so I should be safe.

As long as you have mobile authentication activated, they can query all the damn keys they want and never get your account so don't worry about it. If you're not using mobile auth, you should seriously consider it. I, like many others, was not a fan at first but it has proven to be an asset for myself.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that, yes, I have received the same emails numerous times throughout the day yesterday.

Not worried about account safety and yes, am using mobile auth and 2fa since it was made available :) Thank you for your answer

I had about 8 of those in the last 2 days.

Probably some trolls or bots at work, nothing to be concerned about.

You too, huh? Well, the more games one has, the more emails one will get ^^

Yes, and I'm thinking the very same. ^^

Didn't get any in 12 hours though, I guess the trolls or bots are tired or in school now. ;-)

Same here. Seems someone is bored and is just query spamming all day.

@All: Thank you for your answers!
I am not worried that someone will hack my account. 2FA, Steam Guard, Mobile Auth is on, also for the Email-Account. My thoughts went in the direction of revoking keys from the grey market. Which, of course, no one ever buys from ;)
I find it very interesting tho, that I am not the only one and that quite a bunch of users are hammered with those emails, all starting just three days ago. Something strange is going on :)

Maybe some are botting old keys on the orphan thread.

My suspects go to some leaked pool of keys of some massive giveaways site like gleam or similar.
Or simply, the SpaceCat is checking every key has been activated Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

I'm thinking this too. I got a couple query emails last night and I've activated like only 1-2 keys I've found randomly posted in the orphan thread or similar places and that was more than a year ago. I'm thinking maybe some of those most recent massive giveaways had keys leaked somewhere as those are the only giveaway keys I've activated recently. I wish the emails would say which game they were for making it easier to figure out where I got the key for it from.

I have not got any e-mails though once in a blue moon I have got one.I have a funny feeling this impacts game hoarders more then those who do not collect a lot of games.

I checked profiles of people who posted and most have a lot of games something though is going on.Maybe a data breach at IG or something? So they are trying to maybe check which keys have been used or something?Though it seems nothing to be to alarmed about at least just the e-mails themselves.

You're absolutely right: The more games one has, the more likely it is for him to get those emails now.
On a sidenote: We are collectors, not hoarders ;)
