germany sucks as always in gaming..... so i wonder if a gifting from japan, usa etc. works?
afaik it has no geolock?

what happens if they geolock it afterwards and i already activated it before?

In case the gift shows no region lock to the original buyer, you can activate it anywhere you want.

You should be able to activate & play it. The game doesn't have the runtime lock. You just can't activate a game key or buy it on the steam store in Germany or Australia.

It should work, only key activation is blocked. It's entirely the developers’ decision having it blocked though. None of the corresponding authorities in Germany have reviewed that game yet. They could sell for now if they wanted to.

This sucks so bad. You would think that giving up on the physical games would make it easier for adults to access those games, but nope, they are censoring and policing every fucking bit.
All the VPN stuff annoys me as well. It was easier when you could just order from the UK but Steam has to be the shittiest of 'em all of course.

On sale yes, but overall no. New triple AAA games cost the same as the physical copies when I remember it right.
I like having all my DVDs on a shelf for example. It's just a different feel than a Netflix account.

Remember when you bought premium editions and got actual stuff instead of some in-game bullshit? Oh the nostalgia :D

yeah, i still keep all my precious OLD special editions, not comparable with the ne SO CALLED special editions limited to 10000000000000000 ;D. also normal editions had sometimes stuff inside you get in CE's only today, a hintbook, a big manual, a clothmap etc. :D

Games can be DRM-free on Steam. It's developers choice.
