i might get the 8 and then change the gpu and cpu later

Another option if you want more RAM soon is check whether your mobo supports high frequency RAM - one that you would use in a new build, and buy 2 of them (2 x 8GB) to replace all the RAM. Then you can reuse the RAM when you decide to replace the whole thing.
I still stand by my original advice as the mobo will limit your options for parts.

I don't know how much computer ram games actually use instead of on the graphics card so I'd say it's probably better to get a new graphics card instead. And as you know, graphic cards have vram which if you're buying a new one, should be 8gb+

I guess you are low on funds since you are running such an old setup, In short 8 is the standard and minimum now a days. I myself have 16gig and with firefox up and a game i get close to 10gigs used and when i used to rock 8gigs it would hit 100% usage quite often. Not sure how much that happens to others but if possible i would probably try to get a new/used pc all over. Not sure it would do much for you.

kinda true and i didnt upgrade my pc cause i dont have much money for now and the 8g is really cheap now so i was kinda wondering if its really worth it and yep win 10 + firefox eat most of my ram too

When you don't have enough RAM you'd see serious stuttering or very long level loading times if the game requires more than the RAM you have. If you're encountering this, you should upgrade. If not, then the games you're playing might not need more than 6GB.

when I upgraded my laptop from 4 to 8 it was worth it, but now it's definitely better not to buy only 2gb of ram and buy something new in the future :)

between 4 and 8 true that it does make a deference ( saw that when i did upgrade from 4 to 6 )

You may see a small difference, but it's a waste of money. I'm guessing you're using DDR3. When you upgrade you'll need DDR4, so you won't be able to reuse it. As far as replacing the GPU goes, that'll give you the best bang for you buck. I'd wait until prices cool off though, buying right now is insane.

As others said, save your money. And when you do have the ability to upgrade, I strongly recommend 16GB RAM minimum. We already have games that use 10-13GB of RAM (Forza Horizon 3, for example), and that's only going to grow with time. If I was building/buying a new PC, I'd go for 32GB of RAM.
Additionally, go for 3200 speed memory, it will help eliminate slow memory as a bottleneck and improve minimum frame rates / frame times for smoother gaming.

well im not sure i will find 3200 here but if i do it will be expensive as hell

There is no point for that much ram and at that speed for sure. If you ask me i would advise you to get a kaby lake mobo as you can find them for really cheap these days and then according to the cash that you have spare try to get an used i5 or i7 as you can grab these for really good prices. Or you can try to get a prebuild with a decent psu, 8 gb of ddr4 and a kaby lake mobo.Supposing that you have some spare hdds try you will only have to get cpu and gpu.

As a reality ...
Add some memory.
The memory that bought can not be used on the next motherboard.
Replace the CPU.
awkward with the "Meltdown" "Specter" problem.
You'd better wait for a while.
Perhaps the next CPU will also change the motherboard.
Replace the GPU.
Anyway it's expensive and if you enjoy open-world games, GPU's memory needs 8GB or more and it's expensive.
There is one thing to worry about.
Is the storage medium a hard disk? Is it an SSD?
I do not know what kind of game you are playing, but even if you have a memory shortage, enjoying the game with many data loads, SSD conversion is effective.

HDD is fine for the first new months if he is in really tight budget . Eventhough SDDs there are are really cheap i would advise him to spend those extra money at more important components and he can later buy an SDD

Whether feel a sensory performance improvement or not.
Anyway, because the PC environment of the parties is unknown, I just presented one of the possibilities.
It is probably cheaper to replace the hard disk with the SSD and use it for a while.

With an old i3 having 2 more gb is hardly an improvement. Better save money for when prices (finally) go down and get a completely new platform.

^this.
Don't buy new DDR3 RAM. Your prob. want to upgrade your whole system in 1-2 years and then you need new DDR4 ram.

With that card you'll probably never load the RAM up to 8GB. I myself run more than 20-30 tabs at the time and have no issue (8GB in my build). Issues only occur while playing an intensive game on somewhat high graphics and having multiple tabs open. Just save the money, it's pointless.

I don't think there will be a noticiable difference at your system. I think it is a DDR3 kind of ram? If it is so, don't bother with these ram prices. There is a rumor ram prices may go down at the end of year. With the new CPU options and possible normalization of GPU prices I would wait half a year and built a new system.
BUT! If you gonna use this system for more than a year it would be beneficial.

How many RAM slots does your motherboard have?
Are you using 2+2+1+1 or 3*2Gb sticks?

6gig is perfectly serviceable, another 2 more gig is not going to matter much. Better to save up and upgrade the mobo + proc combo so that you'd be able to support higher speed RAM. Ryzen's pretty decent, just built a new Zen 5 system for my brother last year, and now that 2nd gen Ryzen just came out, it's the perfect time to jump into as well if you could gather some cash later down the line. Personally, I'd say Ryzen 3 would be a much better value than i3 if you do decide to upgrade later.

My PC has 16GB ram since 2012
I think 8GB is not enough.
When I open chromium browser with about 50 tabs then play X-COM 2 with many mods, the RAM is not enough and cause X-COM2 crash.
After I closed Chromium before playing games, it never happened

chrom is well known to take to much ram and each tab opened add to that
