Clarification Victory

I am just on this site, but I want to know 2 things:

1) How do you know that you won?

2) But the victories of a giveway are called immediately on closing or waiting 1 week for you to know the winner?

1) you get a message in green on your steamgifts page saying "Congratulations, you are the winner of a giveaway!" or something to that effect

2) they typically take only a few minutes at the most to be decided after closing

The winner sees a green banner in the main page.

The winner is selected right when the giveaway ends.
